cynthia is cogita's grandkid! her parents weren't present so cogita raised her until, of course, she got disowned for the whole trying to destroy the world thing. cogita sadly passed away before they could truly reconcile.

while there is no canon ancestor to iris, i think its fun to say that cynthia met iris' ancestor and they had kids and 200 years or something later, iris exists and cynthia gets to meet her great great great great grandchild or something. we'll come back to iris in a minute :)

i also think that lusamine also decended from cynthia, which means gladion and lillie also are related to cynthia! not that its important but you know. giant family.

i do ship cynthia and diantha. i think diantha is one of the few who know that cynthia is immortal but was most definitely the most recent to find out. iris is not aware of this. but these three are found family anyway <3

speaking of found family, prof. carolina and cynthia's younger sister are purely adoptive of sorts. but they're still found family. love them. wow cynthia 2 found families thats crazy.

yes this looks odd without context but we do have context so it doesnt matter. cyllene x laventon is canon and you can pry it from my cold dead hands. too bad cyllene got widowed and then found out they were immortal AND trans after laventon died.

anyway, cy and lav were married and akari + rei were their adoptive kids. ingo was akari and rei's adoptive uncle too but that isnt relavent to the family tree. also laventon is a distant relative to leon and hop :) maybe he had siblings or cousins who are great (x?) grandparents to them. who knows.

i think mars and cynthia have the biggest family trees. anyway mars' was the first one that i did incase that wasn't obvious lmfao, but anyway, lets get into it!!!

arezu is ariana's great (x?) grandmother. ariana had a spouse that she had mars (maria at the time) with, but then she left them once she was like 'oh shoot im having silver!!!', so mars is vaguely aware that silver exists somewhere out there but she has no clue who he is otherwise. and then ariana and giovanni are married and had silver, who has no idea who mars is (he'd probably go through a crisis if he looked at sinnoh news, so lets keep it that way). silv and mars have a 9 year age gap btw just throwing that out there

silver found a new dad (lance) and some really weird teenagers about his age who he got stuck with. he's dating one of them. you have to guess. (i already know which one but im leaving it up to the mind bc silver isnt the focus in this au so imagine whatever you want).

mars and her silly little astronaut friends are her found family! i think arezu would flip her shit if she found out her great (x?) granddaughter was adoptive siblings with that one criminal lady (coin). but hey its fine!!! mars has her weird spaceman father and her weird astronaut siblings and life is good (mostly)

i grouped these two together since they've got the smallest family trees.

saturn is (obviously) a decendant of coin, but he has no contact with his family and hasn't spoken to them in years by the time pokemon platinum takes place.

jupiter and fantina are siblings (fantina is older by a few solid years) but they really don't like eachother. they have little contact with eachother and dont exactly speak often. but they do wish eachother happy birthday sometimes so thats a plusside i guess.

and of course saturn and jupiter both have found family with team galactic. awww how sweet :)

so I know it's 2021 and death note aint exactly poppin anymore but let me say something here

one thing I love about death note that makes me both happy and sad is the fact that we are never shown how light actually is outside of the death note's influence. we see him for like twenty seconds before he picks up the death note, which is heavily, HEAVILYYYY implied to be cursed (Ryuk saying every human who's met with it has led a life of misfortune, light being DRASTICALLY different during yotsuba, it being said that the note makes people use it, etc)

so that gives people a LOT of wiggle room when writing light in fanfic. and that's fun and fine and good, but can I say that I am tired,,,, 🤌TIRED🤌 of seeing light just be actin exactly the same even when he's written as never even having touCHEd the death note

more headcanons I have for my lil version of Actual Light I've created in my head:

• surprisingly funny and usually out of nowhere

• makes fun of L for being a "homeschooler" and how it explains a lot

• v close with sayu. plays wii and Pokémon with her and they go on morning jogs together before school while light quizzes her with unnecessarily complicated versions of her study guide to get a laugh in before breakfast

• much closer with his mom than he is with his dad. knows how to and is adept at sewing, cooking, and cleaning. I like to think his mom knew he Wasn't Straight Very Early On and they both know it but light still hasn't said anything out loud to her yet. they love each other v v much

• got his first and only failing grade when he was 14 just bc he forgot to do it. keeps a planner now and writes absolutely everything in it. L thinks it's funny bc light's so, so smart but he's also so forgetful. also forgets to eat all the time

• doesn't have any real friends and never has. really adept at socializing for a little while, but runs out of socially smooth things to say after about an hour, and that's kept him from making genuine friends bc no one else rly wants to talk about black holes or unsolved murders. has One Friend at To-Oh that sits next to him, and it's bc she listens to true crime podcasts and is rly interested in unsolved murders. that's it

• going off that, I also like to imagine light being really reALLY interested in L when he first meets him, not even romantically or anything. just bc hes never met anyone on his same wavelength and it's so cathartic just to sit and talk to L and not have to wait or slow down, bc L already knows what he's saying and what he means. loves playing chess as expected, but also loves playing "guess who" with L once they're good enough friends for a while to get there. they make up questions like "do they look like they wake up at 4:30 am every day and drink lemon water while they run before the sun is up" "yes" *flips down seven tabs*

• I see light as a heavy iced coffee drinker. not even bc he needs it to wake up or anything but just bc he likes the constant light buzz throughout the day, and it also helps him stay focused on everyday things that would otherwise bore him and make his mind wander. mans likes iced caramel macchiatos. eet eez what eet eez and it makes sense in my head

• don't clown me but y'all know how every lil genius in death note has their favorite snacks. aight so lights is fresh sliced oranges. mans could eat a whole bag by himself in an hour. I will not elaborate

• always does dress nice yeah, like Kira!Light, but also comfortably and sometimes like he's 45. Has never worn a pair of acidwash jeans in his life. Khakis or joggers 24/7, and the occasional slim fit dark jeans. has 20 cardigans. one pair of high top white vans, one pair of dark grey low top vans, and the rest would all qualify as business casual. doesn't know what a flip-flop is and will cut you off if he hears you say it

• loves cats and really wants one but soichiro doesn't want animals in the house. light secretly feeds a cat that comes to his windowsill every day and has named it "Mao" bc of its obnoxious meow. was once caught meowing at Mao to come closer by sayu walking home and she snapchatted it to him. sayu starts feeding Mao and scritching his ears while light goes to cram school

• openly likes tally hall, joji, mother mother, and glass animals. secretly likes ariana grande and lizzo. blares them in the car with sayu

• typical gifted kid piano player. soichiro signed him up for piano lessons upon learning light was gifted when he was young. uses his skills now to make piano renditions of cardi b songs

• sometimes bakes obsessively when stuck on something. during the Kira case, L walks in the headquarter's kitchen at 2 am to find a very tired looking watari and 16 apple crisps on the counter with light cutting out intricate dough shapes to decorate the tops. they meet eyes once light notices him and stay Silent for a minute. light says he can't get off the idea that it has to be supernatural, as silly as it sounds, because causing heart attacks in such a controlled manner is impossible. there's no way otherwise. L says he was starting to reluctantly think the same thing, but didn't want to overlook anything before he settled on that. they nod to themselves and light goes back to cutting out shapes. L grabs a plate of beignets light made a couple hours earlier and turns back around to walk out

Honestly, I have never seen an artist that gets more criticism from their own fandom than Taylor’s. What has she done so bad? In 16 years no one has pulled up receipts that she’s racist. I.e Justin Bieber video using the N word. Spray tanned her skin to appear as a Latina rather than the white Italian she is.. Ariana Grande. She’s employed people of all races since The Red era. Prior, her head of security was a black man. Where are the receipts? She wrote BTR at 18 years old. It was raw / truthful and something most teenagers and even adult women do.. blame another woman for the demise of their RS. Has she ever clapback at a critic on SM bc they gave her bad review? Rihanna calling a critic an old ass bitch on SM bc she gave her concert tour a bad review. What is her crime exactly? She’s white, pretty, rich , tall, dated hot HW men? She refuses to have a mental breakdown in public, still successful after 16 years in the game? She wasn’t political enough her 2nd presidential election to vote? Yet the “The Rock “ was applauded for endorsing a presidential nominee for the first time at 48 years old. Imo, the criticism comes from fans who’s upset she’s not gay, not with some ex they adored, or providing daily entertainment. Bc Taylor’s actions are so innocuous compared to other celebrities. As Oprah Winfrey said she always admired Taylor bc of the way she handled her fame.

Okay... I got all of these messages today and I’m not certain they all come from the same person, or there are several people dealing with the exact same issues but... I’m a bit confused.

Is this because I talked about the “gay pride” comment on Miss Americana? I didn’t even feel like I was being harsh, I was just stating that I do not know what to make of it.

Either way, we have some unpacking to do here.

Let me start by saying: I’m not part of any other fandom than the Church of Swift 🙌. I like other stuff, but I’m not as intense about it — so I wouldn’t know how people in other fandoms typically react. Following this line of thought, the reason I’m part of the fandom in the first place is because I love Taylor to bits. Other than her being super talented, it’s easy to be here because she comes off as a genuinely good person. But she isn’t perfect.

However.

If her ‘imperfections’ came in the shape of racist remarks, for example, I wouldn’t even waste my time with her. No, her imperfections are small and silly and human. Like sometimes saying something questionable.

And it’s fine to say questionable things — we all fuck up. I fuck up all the time, even just on this blog. For example, a few weeks ago I said something like “we are all a bit gay”. Didn’t think much about it. Later someone messaged me and very sweetly told me why that comment rubbed her the wrong way. It’s something that didn’t even cross my mind, but I’m glad that she told me because she was right. And while I’m sure I will continue fucking up in the future, hopefully I won’t fuck up in the same way twice.

Now, obviously I’m not expecting Taylor to learn from what I write on my blog. What we discuss on my blog is not for Taylor, but for me and the people who participate here. So discussing the “gay pride” comment wasn’t done with the intention of shaming her, but to find out what other people think of the issue. Whether or not it’s something that a straight person should say, or if it’s something that a closeted queer person would say.

While I agree Taylor shouldn’t get hate for it, I don’t think we should simply ignore people’s concerns because Taylor is a good person overall, you know?

request (anon): hi! can i rq a matt simmons x reader? i’d prefer if she wasn’t related to reid bc that implies that the reader is white and i’m not white. the prompt would be that the reader is a musical therapist consulting on the case who helps out a young kid during the case and after Matt asks her out? thank you!

notes: i am in no way saying that my understanding of musical therapy is correct. i’m an educational psychology student and i have been to a psychologist and psychiatrist but i am in no way a musical therapist. please forgive me for any mistakes i have done as i am not entirely sure if i did my research correctly (i really did try). :(

summary: you’re working with the bau to help a little girl, anna, calm down

Her name was Anna. Eight years old. Being the only kid who was able to escape she was placed under the protection of the FBI. Her parents had been notified and were with her every second they can.

“What do you like to do?” you asked her.

You have been brought in to help the young girl. Anna was a musical prodigy and the BAU had requested a musical therapist to help her calm down to be able to relieve some memories of the place she was captured in to help out the ones left. “Maybe she’d respond to music,” her parents suggested. “Get her to play the piano, that always helps.”

“Piano,” she replied. The large instrument was sitting in front of her. She had yet to touch it. “I like to play the piano.” You were in the hospital, on the ground floor where the piano lay for those who want to play and somehow lift up the spirits of those around them.

“Will you play it for me?”

She shook her head. “He would play it for me.”

You leaned forward. “Who? Who would play it for you?”

“Mr. Candyman.” She looked at you with a worried expression. “He might come back for me if he hears me play, Ms. Y/N. I don’t want that. Please don’t make me play. I’ll be good, I promise.”

You nodded your head. “I won’t force you to do anything. He will never get you again, Anna. The FBI is here to protect you. And so are your parents. You’re safe now.”

She nodded her head slowly and whispered a quiet ‘thank you’. You looked back at the agent with you and he frowned but allowed the nurse to take the little girl back in her room. You sighed as you watched her retreating little figure disappear into the corridor.

“It’s only the first try,” Agent Matt Simmons assured you, “when we think she’s ready, we’ll try again.”

“But what about the kidnapper? Won’t it be too late?” you wondered, panicking a little.

“While we work on this part, the rest of the team are still trying their best to gather as much information as they can. We still have a chance to catch the guy even if we’re still here.” He shrugged. “That’s the way it is, Ms. Y/N.”

You bowed your head a little. “I see. But just a quick check on how things work around here. You’ve got a psychotherapist waiting?” He nodded and you did as well. “Good. I can only do so much. I’ll do my best to get her to relax for us. But as soon as she does, you have to bring her straight to the other therapist. We don’t know how long her relaxation will last due her traumatic experience.”

“We’ve got it all covered, Ms. Y/N. Don’t worry.”

You smiled. “I’ll be going back to my office, Agent Simmons. Just call me when you need me.”

“Will do, Ms. Y/N. Thank you for today.”

He watched you leave the ground floor and into the elevator. When the doors closed, you heaved a heavy sigh and leaned on the wall. Not only were you nervous about being on the case, it was your first time helping with a crime after all, but you couldn’t help but have a slight crush on Agent Simmons.

‘Stop it, Y/N,’ you thought, ‘you don’t even know if he’s married. And anyway, your first priority is to help with the case. Not be attracted to the agent.’

You reached your floor and enter your clinic a few doors down. You sit on your chair and begin to leaf through the files that the Bureau had allowed you to read to help them out. So far, you’ve only gotten the file on Anna, her family background which included her musical talent, and what they have gotten on the unsub’s modus operandi.

This was your first time reading something like it and you couldn’t help but imagine all the gruesome happenings that the unsub could be doing. ‘Those poor children,’ you began, ‘I need to do my best to get to Anna. Why does it feel like their lives depend on me?’ You shook your head. ‘Maybe it does.’

During the second day, there was a tiny bit of hope..

You were having a nice, friendly conversation with the little girl. You were talking about artists and songs, who her favorites were. And although she had an interest in the classics, you can’t help but be amused by the fact that she enjoyed modern day pop more. It’s not the first time that you’ve heard of this scenario, but you loved how talkative the girl actually was. Maybe she had warmed up to you.

“I like Ariana Grande,” she told you. “The Way is my favorite. I also like Lourde. But that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy the songs that my older sister grew up with.”

“And what’s that?” you asked, genuinely interested. You loved music and being a musical therapist and helping out those in need were just a big plus. “What songs did your sister grow up listening to?”

“Late ninetys and early two thousdands. She memorizes a lot of them. She especially loves Westlife.”

You grinned. “I love Westlife, too. Nicky is my favorite.”

“She likes Shane. But my favorite is the Backstreet Boys. Nick Carter is so cute.”

“I agree,” you said with a nod. You heard Agent Simmons laugh softly and you blush as you realized that you may have sounded like a teenager when you agreed with Anna. You can’t help it, though, Nick Carter was really cute.

But what was more important is that you believed that this was your chance to let Anna feel as though she was safe.

“Which one is your favorite song?” you asked. “My personal favorite is What Makes You Beautiful.”

She gasped. “Oh I love that! I heard that while watching Princess Diaries with Emma.”

“I liked that movie,” you remarked.

“But my favorite song of the Backstreet Boys has got to be I Want It That Way.”

You chuckled a little due to the reminder of the cold opening from Brooklyn Nine-Nine. “You are/my fire…” you started.

“The one/desire…”

‘Yes, keep going, Anna.’ “Believe/when I say….”

“I want it that way…”

‘Almost there.’ “Tell me why…”

“Ain’t nothing but a heartache…” Then she began to laugh. She was already pretty but she looked even cuter when she genuinely happy. “That was fun.”

“It was, wasn’t it? I haven’t sang that song in awhile.”

She giggled. “Emma would have loved to join.”

You sat up straighter. “How are you feeling?” Meanwhile, you’re feeling a tad bit excited at the progress.

Her laughter died down and she shrugged. “I’m okay.” She looked at the piano and cast her eyes down.

“What are you thinking about?” you pried.

“Just the piano,” she replied. “I miss it.”

“So what do you wanna do about it?”

“I wanna play the piano…”

“Do you wanna play now?” You were getting much more hopeful by the second. You always were excited when something new comes up from one of your patients. You would jump up for joy inside, heart leaping as you realized that there was some sort of progress. But outside, you would always remain cool, calm and collected. “Do you wanna play for us, Anna?”

She shook her head. “I’m tired, Ms. Y/N. I think I’ll go take a nap.”

You made sure not to show how disappointed you were. You nodded your head and the nurse waited for permission from Agent Simmons. Her parents looked at him with sorry expressions on their faces.

Once they’ve left, you groaned in frustration, forgetting that you weren’t alone in your office.

“Are you okay, Ms. Y/N?” Agent Simmons asked.

You frowned. “We were so close.”

He gave a small smile. “You did your best. Hopefully they’ll allow us to see her again tomorrow. I have a feeling it would be the day.”

You didn’t mean to look into his eyes, but you did anyway. You didn’t reply for a minute and he looked at you worriedly. You snapped out of your thoughts and pouted. He laughed lightly and you immediately pursed your lips. “I sure hope so, Agent Simmons. I really do hope so.” And you looked at the corridor that Anna had disappeared to then back at the black, sleek piano just a few feet away from you. “I hope so,” you repeated softly.

The next day, despite Anna’s parents already having second thoughts about whether she should continue with the musical therapy to help with the case, it was to everyone’s relief when the young girl began playing with the instrument that she once loved.

You sighed, finding solace that you finally got one thing right.

That day, you were talking about her achievements. You pretended to not know much about her background as she spoke.

Both her paternal grandmother and father were pianists as well, and when she began playing along with them they decided to teach her; first it was for fun then after awhile, they realized her potential and began teaching her professionally. She won many school talent shows since the age of three. Then her parents received news that a scholarship was waiting for her in a prestigious school.

That was where Mr. Candyman took her.

When she hit the final note, everyone applauded. You smiled at her and gave her a standing ovation. Anna seemed unfazed by the fuss over her, she was grinning from ear to ear, just like she always does.

“How are you feeling, Anna?” you asked when she walked back to you.

“Thank you,” she said. You smiled. “For telling me to face my fears.”

Before she ran to the piano earlier, the two of you had been talking about crowds and first days. You figured it was a good time to tell her that it was best to face her fears, and you hoped that what you said would reach to her fears of playing the piano again.

However, you also realized that much like your other patients, you couldn’t force them to do anything. Yes, they were there to get better but you can only do so much. This girl was kidnapped, along with other kids, and she was able to escape but not without the expense of being traumatized. You remember how she refused to do anything except cry when they first got her.

“You’re a brave girl, Anna,” you told her softly. “So so brave.”

She smiled.

Agent Simmons appeared beside you and squatted to be able to talk to Anna directly. “Are you ready to talk to Ms. Katie?” he asked. He looked up to her parents and you see them give a nod of approval.

“Yeah, I guess,” she replied. Then she looked at you and said, “I’m going to miss you, Ms. Y/N.”

You smiled. “Thank you for being with me, Anna. I’m very glad to have met you.” You patted her shoulder and her parents whisked her away. They looked back at you and Agent Simmons and mouthed ‘“thank you” before heading towards the corridor, two agents following them.

After a minute or so, you turned to Agent Simmons and said, “I suppose my job is done for now.”

He gave a half-smile. “I suppose so.”

“Did I do well?” you asked worriedly.

“You did a wonderful job, Ms. Y/N.” He smiled.

“Thank you,” you said, smiling back at him. You sighed and clutched your bag which was lying on the seat beside you. “I better go, Agent Simmons. If you ever need me again, you know where to find me.”

When he didn’t reply, you bowed a little and began to walk away but he called your name softly and you turned around to face him once again.

“Yes, Agent?” You tilted your head to the side. “Anything else I can do for you?”

“Two things,” he said. “One, call me Matt.” Your heart began to thump faster. “And two,” he paused, “when all this is over, do you, maybe…wanna have dinner with me, Ms. Y/N?”

You couldn’t help but smile. “That’s sounds lovely, Matt. And you can call me Y/N, no need for that ‘miss’ ‘miss’.”

He grinned and held out his phone. “I think I’d rather have your personal number than the one in your calling card.”

You laughed and punched in your digits before handing out your phone to him. “Maybe I need a caller ID so I can answer your properly.”

It was his turn to put in his number. After a minute of planning, you two headed your separate ways.

In two days, he had called. “Does Italian sound good to you, Y/N?”

“Definitely,” you replied.

And so, that very same night, you put on your best dinner date clothes, fixed yourself up a little bit more than usual–which you scolded yourself for–and waited for Matt to pick you up.

The doorbell of your apartment rang and you looked at yourself one more time in front of the mirror and smiled. “You go, Y/N.” You brisk walked to the door and outside is Matt holding a bouquet of flowers. “Hi,” you said.

“Hey,” he replied, smiling. “For you.” He handed you the flowers and you thanked him. You had asked him to wait for you as you ran into the kitchen to get a vase and fill it with water. When you were done, he asked if you were ready to go.

“Since the first time I saw you,” you answered, blushing.

He grinned. “Let’s go then.”

wbk i’m a weak bitch, but i’ve lowkey had an idea for this muse for like seven months, so here we go!

jackson sinclair was born lucky. the eldest son of leopold and ginebra sinclair, he had a silver spoon in his mouth from the moment that he was born.

his entire life, it was clear that the sinclair name was only known for one thing: wealth. his father owned a chain of hotels, inherited from his grandfather, and his mother have her fingers in the oil business. both their families separately had more money than they knew what to do with with, and together? they were practically gods.

that’s how jax always thought of them, anyway. he idolises his parents, thought that they could do no wrong and lived their best possible lives. parties every weekend, summers in europe, never wanting for nothing because whatever they wanted, they got.

they spoiled him rotten, too. whatever he wanted, he got without argument. most of the time, anyway. they may have given him what he wanted, but if he ever acted out against their rules, he lost it in a flash. cars would be taken away and his accounts frozen if he shamed their name, his father expecting much of him as the eldest.

he got a lot sneakier after learning that lesson the hard way, and before long, he was a mastermind at avoiding their suspicions of what he was doing. school bored him, the man far too intelligent for his own good, and there were many days where he ditched to go drinking with his friends, making up for it with his grades and that he was paying the office to mark him as present when he wasn’t.

like i said, too smart and rich for his own good smh.

he was kind of rough and tough too. kinda had guzman vibes from elite? easy to piss off, even easier to get a fight out of. he was 100% that ass that had his friends hold a guy down while he beat them up.

when he graduated high school, he went to MIT to study physics and chemical engineering.

it was also around that time that jax learned about the real family business. not only had his father been grooming him to take over command of the hotel business, but of his side business. turned out mr leopold the first had control of the crime ring in all of massachusetts. he profited from everything, had control of the police as well as the drug trade. 

it was a lot for jax to take in and accept, but his father had always had a way of wording things to make anything sound like it made sense. he talked jax into it, little by little. he already knew how to use a gun, and had been boxing since he was a kid, and he already had the smarts and potential to be involved in the running of that business.

even more than that, his past relationship with ariana became more intense.

he really fell in love with her, and when they found out they were having lena, that only solidified things for jax, even if he was terrified.

three kids later, jax really was feeling like he was on top of the world. he had his kids, his wife, was doing well in his transition towards taking over the family businesses. the only kink came up when ari was getting invested over her father, and everything went to shit.

when she left, he was in denial for a hot minute. he thought that she was just in hiding to escape the backlash of her father getting arrested. then a week past and no matter who he sent and what he tried, she hadn’t come home and he had no information.

he could only assume the worst. that she had been kidnapped, or killed, or worst of all, that she had simply left.

with a newborn to look after and two young kids, jax had a really hard time readjusting to what his life had become without his wife. over the years he tried his best, but he definitely had his shortcomings as a father and made mistakes in those early days.

still, he was trying. he did his best as a father, gave them freedom and all they could want, but still put his foot down when need be. 

he lost his father a few years after ariana left, and he officially took over the hotel chain, as well as his underground business. he ended up buying out a chain of restaurants and taking over them to in order to expand his empire, as well as sitting on the board of his mother’s business.

has basically spent the last twenty years working his ass off. he wanted all of his business to thrive, and he completely chased the power that came with it all. he wanted everyone to know his name, or the persona he created for himself when it came to his less than legal activities. he wanted to see his kids through school, raise them the only way he knew how.

has been such a womanizer over the years at first bc he couldn’t commit to another woman again ( esp bc he was p sure they were still married ) and then just because it had become a habit.

he’s at a point in his life now that he thought he could just relax, and become more of a man of leisure. work is running smoothly enough for him, and he has been spending more and more time lately out on the yacht, attending dinner parties and underground fight clubs.

then ariana came back into his life, and found out that he’s gonna be a grandpa, and there’s the whole teddy being pregnant. needless to say he is stressed af rn and is 10/10 done with life tbh.

he just wants to go race cars and get his new drug going through the city but alas, billionaire boys club has to be hard sometimes.

personality wise, he’s kind of blunt. always looks kinda tough, stone faced and mad, and in some ways he is. he’s cocky af too, arrogant, and a spoiled shit. has a mad soft spot for his family though, and will literally kill to protect them.

Thoughts & Opinions on the Crimes of Grindelwald

SPOILERS FOR THE WHOLE MOVIE AHEAD OBVIOUSLY

(also spoilers for the review: I didn’t like it, which I am explicitely stating here so you don’t need to read this if you don’t like what I have to say! Don’t wanna ruin the movie for peeps who enjoy it! Also warning nr. 2 I was pretty annoyed when I wrote it so I’m sorry for being aggressive oops)

- I mean we all knew that Dumbledore was not going to be explicitly gay, but after seeing the movie I was even more annoyed. There were multiple scenes where just implementing a simple “I love(d) him” was so freaking easy. To someone who knows Dumbledore is gay, or even a queer person, the queerness in these scenes is very tangible. To people who do not fall into one of these categories though, Dumbledore’s queerness will still not be picked up on! I am so tired of movies who put in these types of scenes but are too scared to say the words. I only hope that the next few movies will explicitly state that Dumbledore is gay. It. is. not. enough. now. 

- Dumbledore waiting for Newt on a rooftop is the gayest scene of the movie tbh. Extra™

- Got a laugh out of Dumbledore still giving vague orders to his favourite students without actually going out to do things himself. The man never changes does he?

- Now to address Queenie and Jacob’s relationship. What. Kind. Of. Manipulative. Bullishit. Is. THis? WHY DID THEY ROMANTICISE THIS? I cannot believe. I am so confused. How can you write Queenie putting Jacob under a love spell, totally under her control, totally unable to give any consent might add, and expect us to find it ROMANTIC? Why does Jacob still lover her after this? HOw can you write this scene and think it is even a remotely healthy relationship? Not to mention that you are J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series, and you yourself physically wrote the chapter in which Merope continues to feed love potions to Tom Riddle, creating the horrible person that is Voldemort to, you know, point out that feeding someone a love potion is WONG?!? Also was she not aware of the parallel between this and that scene at the end of the movie where Leta’s dad puts her mom under the imperius curse to keep her in his control and basically rapes her? No one is seeing the parallel? No? We’re just gonna pretend that this was a romantic scene??? I am pissed off. 

- There were so many house-elves doing magic in this movie. And it’s not exactly wrong, because we know they can do magic without wands and that they are allowed to perform magic with permission from their masters, but still. Their magic was so similar to wizards magic. I always imagined it to be more crude, like their loud CRACKS when they disappeared etc. idk.

- I actually loved some scenes in that Hogwarts flashback. Mannn that friendship between Leta and Newt. I love it. They’re such highly stereotypical depictions of their house. Leta is such a slytherin and Newt is such a hufflepuff, and I am so here for slythering-hufflepuff friendships. They’re the best. 

- McGONNAGALL love her. Iconic. Idk if she was Minerva or not but ya know

- Whyyyyyy is Dumbledore teaching Defense Against The Dark Arts?? I am annoyed. Why does it have to be defense against the dark arts? It’s that one class we keep seeing. Just let him teach Transfiguration. Let him be. Stop changing what is established in the books. Ugh. 

- The magic throughout this movie was wayyy too powerfull again. Like I have accepted it at this point. Yes it gives some nice visual effects. But it takes away so much of the tension. It’s so nice in Harry Potter that you get a magical world, but you always know the boundaries of it. In this movie anything seems to be possible

- I need a crack video of that first Thestral scene where Grindelwalds head keeps popping up through the windows. It was hilarious. 

- WHYYYY is Johnny Depp playing Grindelwald. I am so done with watching his face. 

- Ooooh I loved the creatures (except for those library cats they can go away) in the movie. The Kelpie was 10/10, also thought the Zouwu was dope. 

- FUCKING NAGINI. WHY WAS SHE EVEN THERE. SHE LITERALLY CONTRIBUTED NOTHING TO THE WHOLE MOVIE. LITERALLY NOTHING. SHE HAD HER ONE SCENE WHERE SHE CHANGED AND THEN SHE JUST KINDA HUNG OUT ON THE BACKGROUND. HOW MANY LINES DID SHE HAVE? LIKE THREE? IDK MAN I AM SO ANGRY ABOUT NAGINI. THERE. WAS. NO. NEED. 

- Can we talk about that stupid back story for Leta, Yusuf and Credence??? I don’t even know where to start? They just wanted to fuck with some family trees or something. But it was just so bad man. Stealing a wife with the imperius curse and having a baby? ugh I hate all of it. It’s so weird. And then for some reason Leta and Corvus have to be on a boat, because you know. Magical transport doesn’t exist right? And of course the boat has to be sinking. But more importantly, Leta gets annoyed with baby Corvus’ crying and her first response is: let me swap this baby with a quiet baby. Yes perfect. Finally some peace and quiet. WHO DOES THAT? Who’s first instinct when dealing with a crying baby is, ah lets swap it for a quieter one??? This whole backstory is just completely ridiculus. 

- This bloodpact thing between Grindelwald and Dumbledore can either be interesting or not. If they just made a bloodpact when they were young and this is the reason Dumbledore cannot fight him, it takes away so much of the emotional plot. Dumbledores reason for not fighting Grindelwald has always been that he loved him once (or even still kinda does idk?) and he cannot get himself to do it. It gives so much controversy to his character and makes the story so much more emotional (and gay). And if it is just bc of a stupid bloodpact, you take all of that away. However, if they made this bloodpact at a very difficult time, for example after Ariana’s death or something, then it has the same emotional value, because Dumbledore then knows Grindelwald is bad, and still does not want to fight him. 

- Yeah. that ending. I am so done with everyone being related to some important character and that making everything exciting or something. I don’t care. Why should I care about Credence being a Dumbledore. What does it add. I am tired.

alright obvious spoilers not that it matters bc i have one follower lmao but !! i need somewhere to scream abt this movie

first of all i love jacob and newt so much. best parts of this movie honestly i love them and i want them to be happy 

but to be fair i actually rlly rlly enjoyed watching this movie!! like,, there are a looot of things i dont understand about it and i have no idea how they happened or why theyre happening but thats Okay i would still recommend everyone watch it! its so good!!!

good things:

- grindelwald !! i mean,, no hes not a good thing but i really liked how they wrote his character. like i can UNDERSTAND the power he has over people and how hes manipulating them. hes really not just a Voldemort 2.0 and i respect that a lot bc thats not what an entirely different villain should be like. but casting issues and all aside i really liked this

- i also liked the interaction between leta lestrange and dumbledore that was some good stuff and the actors were rlly good too !!! - i like the direction queenie is going in. i mean i dont actually of course but it seems realistic and i think its important and its good character development n stuff so hhh hope that works out later tho !! i am Suspense

- jacob walked into that movie and i was like !!!!!!!!! :DDDDDDDDDDDDD i love him so much and it was rlly nice to see him back even if i dont think it was that neat to have him lose his memory of everything that happened for significance and in this movie have everything go like WHOOMP hes back but i uhhhh loved it anyway so this is not a complaint its a good thing - i still loved newt and having a good main character makes the whole movie a better watch in general. ive seen sequels where i just Cant get attatched to the new characters but wow i didnt really have much of a problem with that here

- ive seen different opinions on this but??? what was that blood pact????? what are u doing??????????????? i cant even be coherent properly so here are the main reasons that was rlly dumb

1- w-who does that in a romantic relationship ever :o and yes jkr has literally said dumbledore n grindelwald were in LOVE HELLO feel free to correct me if im wrong on anything but if ur gonna say it u should show it,,,, Continuity Please. anyway separate issue but if u love someone youre not gonna be like “hey lets make SURE we dont fight each other ever” because youll trust that the other person?? isnt gonna fight u???!!!???? im

2- thats literally not the reason he “cannot move against grindelwald” okay like it shouldnt be. this conversation literally happens in dh and dumbledore says he was scared of facing what rlly happened when ariana died!! there was no actual physical thing stopping him!!! the only acceptable justification is that he doesnt want to face this ghosts of his past and that moment and he is SCARED okay so COME ON give dumbledore his faults! hes scared of his past and that IS the reason!!

3- wait how did grindelwald, aberforth, and albus fight if they had already entered a blood pact. like i dont think albus would aim for his own brother EVER but could he even attack grindelwald if they had a blood pact?? not sure how this works lol but who was he aiming for then??? just firing everywhere randomly without intention cause that sounds,,, significantly harder to believe and makes that scene loads messier esp if grindelwald couldnt aim for albus either so

4- the blood pact was so frickin unnecessary im sobbing. like there was the scene where its all like “oh some say you were as close as brothers” and dumbledore is like “oh we were closer than brothers...” and im like OK! the little scene in the air doesnt explicitly reveal anything either so thats ok but the closer than brothers line was rlly revealing for me. at least for like two minutes and then dumbledore looked in the mirror and saw himself making a blood pact w grindelwald. like ok is That what u meant by closer than brothers bc thats what everythings pointing to but it shouldnt be and i.............ugh

5- im honestly just kind of hhhhhhhhhhhh. i can concede that the blood pact might be significant in later films and i look forward to watching them! but. at the same time i. wish that if you were going to say dumbledore was gay it would actually be explicitly referenced in the movie, instead of dancing around that and dropping it in hints and pieces that fans of the series who know this information will understand and others can just dismiss as friendship! there were So Many good places in this movie to include this fact (altho feel free to disagree w me haha) and i think that not including this fact was honestly tiring.

- nagini...........obv this isnt a huge problem bc idk where her story will go next n it might develop n become important but as of rn, i have no idea what her role in this movie is. i wonder if her reappearance in the harry potter series will actually be of significance and if itll be explained how she will end up under servitude to voldemort bc i genuinely dont understand right now. it just seems like a cameo to draw attention in the trailer ghgdjh

- leta lestrange’s death didnt feel right or impactful and im sad . definitely a huge opinion here but it felt like a mandatory character snuff to make the movie sad and ghdsjgfh oh well :(

- little continuity issues?? dumbledore being DADA professor instead of transfiguration bc Boggarts Are Important For Foreshadowing. also how is mcgonagall an adult or actually how is she even alive and um of course the fact that this movie doesnt confirm what jkr has said about dumbledore and grindelwald beforehand. 

- im actually going to totally repeat myself bc this deserves a separate point umm why arent dumbledore and grindelwald actually shown as in love with each other as young men. its completely relevant to the movie and its not hard to put it in there instead of the bLOOD PACT (ask anyone irl ive been screaming abt the blood pact ever since i came out of that movie). anyway i know david yates said he wouldnt be including that as part of the movie as fans are aware of that aNyway but its not that hard to understand. people are asking for actual representation?? not smt vague??? because this is just here to Please People. if u refuse to see this ship, ure just gonna see them as having a friendship! maybe u havent heard about what jkr said or maybe ure choosing to ignore it bc,, idk that says smt about u, or maybe another reason idk! but if u go into this knowing they were In Love and hoping to see confirmation of dumbledore being canonically gay, youre going to hear that “oh, we were more than brothers” line and be like oh yeah we been knew, or more seriously like hey! maybe we’re getting a canon confirmation, not just floaty young people leaning towards each other! like when he looked in the mirror i was like okay This Is It this is gna be confirmation but then it wasnt oop. it was the !!! bloooood paaact !!! which means that people could interpret the “closer than brothers” line as meaning oh we done did a blood pact that means we blood related look at us go!
