Hobie stopped to draw a little doodle of himself. He was like oh I'm writing a note for Gwendy I'll draw a little me.
And it's like not crunched in the corner or anything it looks like he planned to have it there so he left a little space to doodle 😭
He got out red and white markers to draw a little SpiderPunk for that note.
He's such a silly little guy. I'm gonna cry about it.

Pete’s Escape (Dialogue)
I just cannot help but talk about the dialogue in this scene, because I honestly think it was some of the best acting and execution I’ve seen from this show (and ever, honestly). Their conversation seems very surface-level, but there’s a lot more going on that I keep picking up every time I rewatch.
P: “It’s up to you, Vegas. It’s your choice.”
It’s interesting to me that this is the line that fully sets Vegas off. It seems backwards in a way, because Pete isn’t challenging Vegas’s authority--in fact, he’s reminding him that he has agency. It’s Pete bringing up Korn at all that angers Vegas, because it’s just an added weight atop all the stress he’s currently under. He finally found the courage to stand up to his father (at least a little bit) and it ended with more abuse. His father makes him feel powerless, and even though Pete tells him that he has a choice to turn himself in to Korn (or not), he takes that as a sign of weakness. Why? Because submitting to Korn would be surrendering control, and control is the one thing Vegas needs to hold himself together.
I already talked about the line “Don’t think just because we had sex that you can say anything” in this post, but I think it’s one of the most telling lines as far as Vegas’s emotional connection to Pete. In saying it, he is implying that Pete thinks being intimate gives him some sort of power. Vegas is thereby stripping the significance of the sex altogether. But we know that everything Vegas says is a front; he doesn’t mean any of it. Vegas acknowledges without even realizing it that yes, having sex with Pete does give Pete control--because Vegas is at Pete’s mercy now more than ever, as we soon see.
Tumblr media
Vegas and Pete return to their old dynamic here, each taunting the other...at least, that’s how it seems at first. But as the scene unravels, we see that Pete really does mean it when he tells Vegas to kill him.
Killing Pete would be the easy way out. Think about it: killing Pete would make everything fall neatly into place. Vegas would assert his dominance by finally ridding himself of Kinn’s head bodyguard, while Pete would finally get the release he’s been searching for.
Everything Vegas says is just a contradiction of how he truly feels. Only when Pete pushes him to the edge does he truly breakdown and directly acknowledge that no, he can’t live without Pete.
P: “Kill me. I’ve got nothing left. Not even my humanity...Right now, I feel useless. No. I’ve always been useless. I never exist. I have no feelings. I don’t freaking have anything left within me. I can’t take it anymore. If you don’t kill me today, I’ll do it myself.”
The line, “Not even my humanity,” is where Vegas crumbles:
Tumblr media
For the first time, PETE IS TALKING ABOUT HIMSELF! In a plot line that has been dominated by Vegas’s inner turmoil, the fact that Pete lets it all out here is the perfect, cathartic wake-up call for Vegas--a reminder that he’s only continuing this cycle of trauma and abuse. I’d argue that when Pete says this, for a moment, Vegas thinks about how his father makes him feel: broken. Empty. Useless. This is the first time Pete is directly telling him that his pain is not an excuse to act cruelly.
Then Pete grabs the knife. And the dialogue that follows is, as many others have pointed out, almost the exact same as the torture scene from Ep11:
P (Ep11): “I give up, Vegas. I give up.”
V (Ep13): “Okay. I give up, Pete. I’m sorry.”
Vegas’s relationship with pain is so interesting here. His father causes him pain, he once caused Pete (and others) pain to make himself feel better, but now he hates the idea of seeing Pete in pain. His connection to pain, both inflicting it and receiving it, is changing so much, all because of Pete.
And what happens next?
V: “Don’t leave me, Pete. I’m begging you.”
P: “I’m a human, Vegas. I have feelings.”
V: “Can we start all over again? Just you and me. I need you, Pete. Just you and me.”
Vegas is so desperate for a fantasy he was never going to get. But the most significant part of this to me isn’t that Vegas is saying everything we, as the audience, already know, it’s that he is literally begging. That’s the only way to show Pete that he’s being sincere; he doesn’t try to hide behind anger or dominance any longer. He can’t help but breakdown and cry at the prospect of losing the only light in his life.
*Side note, but the “Can we start all over again?” presents an interesting contrast to Kinn and Porsche’s “Be my bodyguard” scene from Ep12.
Tumblr media
This expression, to me, represents Pete’s own grappling with what Vegas is saying versus what his actions have shown. In different circumstances, I think Pete would’ve delighted in knowing that Vegas thinks he needs him, but here it’s different. Here, he’s calling out how Vegas goes back and forth, just like abusers do.
P: “For emotional projection, like a pet with no feelings?”
"Emotional projection” is honestly the perfect description for their relationship up to this point. Vegas finally found someone who listened, but that was all Pete was to him. Pete is forcing Vegas to realize that he is so much more than someone he can turn to when he’s in despair.
So Pete calls out the handcuffs, and what does Vegas do?
V: “Okay. But promise me. You won’t leave me.”
Vegas is so terrified at the thought of actually losing Pete. He’s allowed himself to get wrapped up in this fantasy safe house bubble, but he’s just accelerated the amount of time before it pops. Pete was probably already contemplating ways to escape, but he was still teetering on the edge, as seen through his little monologue earlier in the episode. All it took was Vegas’s outburst to push him in a definitive direction.
V: “Stay with me.”
Tumblr media
Full disclosure: I’m honestly not sure how I’m able to go on writing this after witnessing this GIF, because this was the moment they broke me. Vegas is such a deplorable guy--he literally had a knife to Pete’s throat not a minute before!-- and yet, my heart still breaks for him. Their relationship is jagged, it’s messy, it’s toxic, it’s confusing, it’s impossible. But Vegas holds on before Pete can pull away completely.
Vegas is incredibly selfish here, but it’s all in character. Selflessness would be letting Pete go. It would be admitting his wrongs and letting Pete walk away without ever interfering in his life again. But Vegas knows that Pete is the only thing holding him together, and he’d rather cling to that and hurt Pete than let Pete go and lose himself.
We’ve talked a lot about how poignant it would be to see Vegas let Pete go, but I’m glad he didn’t. They’re really embracing Vegas’s selfishness as it connects to franticness at the thought of losing Pete. Vegas’s selfishness now will make for an even grander gesture later.
P: “I’m sorry.”
Even after all of this, Pete still finds it in himself to say sorry before hitting Vegas in the face. Besides the tears, this is the strongest indicator that Pete--at least partly--wants to stay with Vegas too. He hates the thought of adding to Vegas’s pain, despite the fact that pain is all Vegas has ever caused him.
And I thought Kinn and Porsche were messy. 🥲🥲🥲
