Blue Blood & Seafoam Bones
Jack Sparrow x Rex Lanning
Word Count: 1605
Tag List: @heavenshipped @fangedwife @the-schizotypal-cryptid @ghostlyvenus-selfships @f-orever-and-ever
Summary: It is revealed Rex Lanning is related to royals, and the last favorable heir of Queen Perla of Kirkcoln Isle. The queen is shocked to learn her heir is trans, thinking Rex must be a cis man trying to cash in on the royal inheritance; before she can confirm anything for herself, Jack has had enough of it and hauls Rex out of there.
Warnings: Tension throughout, the queen demanding Rex be undressed against their will (thankfully Jack avoids this outcome by nearly wounding the queen), gun usage.

Rex had been rushing some stolen jewelry back to the Black Pearl when a poster caught his eye. He shoved the riches in his pockets and under his clothes as he stepped closer to read it…
Thirty-some years ago, Queen Perla birthed a secret heir. The babe's father, a doctor and a thief, was ordered to take the child and never return. Now, our queen is dying, and it is clear her current heirs are unfit to rule. If you know anything at all of what has happened to the now-grown child, make sure the information gets to the royal court as soon as possible. We may not have much time.
They paused before snatching the poster off the wall and continuing down to the docks. It was far too early for them to be caught, yet they still hurried. Once back on the Pearl, they slipped into the captain’s quarters where Jack rested his eyes in his hammock, somewhere between sleep and wakefulness. Rex sat upon Jack’s desk and unfolded the poster, once more scanning the words. Their own father was a doctor, and only recently had they discovered his dabbling in piratehood. Surely it was just coincidence, however…
Rex set the poster aside and emptied their pockets and other cloths of the riches they had managed from unsuspecting people’s homes.
“Ah, Rexie…” Jack yawned and stretched in the hammock, shifting his hat to peer half-liddedly at his lover with a single eye, “yer back.”
He smiled as they slipped off the desk and gently flopped on top of him.
“Mm-hm. Good haul this morning, but I don’t think we should stick around too long.”
The captain wrapped his arms protectively around his partner, already drifting off again.
“Wake me when the sun rises, then…”
Rex shook his head amusedly before burying his face in the crook of Jack’s neck.
“I love you.”
“I love ye, too.”
~~~
“Cap’n!” Gibbs’ voice shook Jack and Rex out of their shallow slumber. “Shant we be headin' out soon??”
“Oh, gosh, I must’ve fallen asleep,” Rex rolled out of the hammock and peered out the smudged windows, the sky tinged with bright oranges and yellows. He snatched the poster from the desk, shoving it in his pocket and exiting the cabin. Jack slowly sat up, shook himself, grabbed the half-empty bottle of rum nearby, and quickly followed suit. By the time he stepped blinking into the morning sunlight, Rex was already calling out orders to get the Pearl back out to sea. Jack sighed fondly as he watched him, knowing his crew and his ship would be in wonderful hands if he was ever unable to do his duty.
Once away from the pier, Rex returned to Jack’s side, showing him the poster he had snatched up.
“Have you seen anything like this around??”
Jack inspected it closely.
“Maybe...? I rarely pay attention t' anythin' that ain't a wanted poster fer meself…” Jack read over it again, much like Rex. “Seems a right shame fer the monarchy.”
He then shrugged and handed the poster back to Rex, his words obviously not holding any real weight. “Why'd ye pick it up?”
“It sounded familiar… enough that it sparked some sort of worry in me. You know, my father was a doctor, and earlier than that, a pirate. But I suppose I’m overthinking it. Could be someone else, right?”
“Ye reckon yer the lost prince??”
Rex flushed and Jack took his hand, giving it a squeeze. “Ah, I didn' mean that negatively…”
“No, I-I see what you mean, seems a silly thing to worry about when spoken aloud. Surely it’s someone else… my father told me my mother was just another village skank…”
“Could've been lying t' ye…” Jack’s eyes twinkled mischievously and teasingly. Rex shoved him playfully in response.
“I’ve too much seafoam in my veins to be royalty,” Rex stated with an air of finality and satisfaction.
“‘n’ who wants t' be royalty, anyway? I know ye wouldna trade the freedom o' a thief fer the stuffy halls o' a prince.”
The two shared a brief kiss before a crewmate’s call put them on their guard. An unknown ship ahead, too far away to be identified by colours.
“Prepare yourselves, men, on the chance they’re hostile or undercover British ships,” Rex ordered, hand on the hilt of their sword.
Time passed and the two ships came side by side with each other. Rex and Jack stood on the quarter-deck, close to the railing for conversation.
“Can we help ye??” Jack called over hesitantly as he spotted the ship’s captain.
“What do you know of Queen Perla?” The unknown captain called back.
Jack and Rex exchanged glances.
“Naught!”
“… You’re a poor liar, sir. My ship or yours?”
“Yours,” Rex concluded, dragging Jack over to the ropes to swing onto the newcomer’s ship.
“I’ll ask you again,” the lady captain continued, “what do you know of Queen Perla? We don’t want any violence.”
Rex produced the poster from their pocket. “This is all we know.”
The captain nodded, scarcely looking at the poster to be aware of what it was.
“Doesn’t say, but there’s a good sum of money in for anyone who can help us find the lost heir.”
“Good sum? How much are we natterin'?” Jack hummed curiously.
“Depends on how much you can help. We’ve gathered the heir is likely female, has dark hair, is quite pale, and haled from the Summermaw district of Kirkcoln Isle.”
It took all of Rex’s will not to sharply gasp. It all fit them, except for the female part… of course, that’s the mold they were given, but becoming a pirate had freed them from said mold. The captain’s gaze caught Rex’s involuntary expression, however.
“You. Something on your mind?” She asked.
“Watch yer tone,” Jack warned darkly, half-stepping in front of Rex to protect him. The two shared narrowed gazes, hands ready to grab weapons, the moment tense.
“It all sounds very familiar,” Rex softly confessed.
“You and your crew will return with us to Kirkcoln. Willingly, or by force, is up to you.”
Jack huffed but returned to his ship to tell his crew of the change in plans, Rex following suit. The Black Pearl would follow this other ship, The Pheasant, to the island of Kirkcoln. The captain, a woman ironically named Falcon, would ensure the obvious pirate ship would be allowed to dock, under royal order.
~~~
By the time they arrived at the island, the sun was beginning to set below the dark waters. Jack and Rex were treated only slightly better than prisoners as they were separated from their crew, which was to stay guarded on board the Pearl, and put in a carriage en route for the queen’s castle. Rex nervously gripped Jack’s hand.
“It’ll be alright, luv.” Jack tried to assure them, rubbing their back with his free hand.
“What if they throw us in jail when they realize we are of no help to them? Surely they won’t just let us go… we’re pirates.” Rex spoke quickly and hushedly, anxious the driver might hear.
“We'll escape. Or at the mighty least, I assure ye, I won't let 'em get ye. I swear on me piece o' eight.”
As the moon began to rise, the carriage reached the castle. Jack had zoned out, quite bored, but Rex couldn’t allow himself to be calm. Every hair on his body stood on end in anticipation of danger.
“Bringing forth Captain Jack Sparrow, and his first mate, Rex Lanning!” A guard announced as Jack and Rex were led into the main hall of the palace. The frail queen sat in her throne, leaning forward as the two pirates stood before her. Rex kneeled, bowing his head and lightly smacking Jack’s leg when he noticed he wasn’t on the ground beside him.
“Stand,” Queen Perla commanded, and so the pirates stood. “Falcon has told me you,” she gestured to Rex, “seem familiar with the details of my missing child. Perhaps you can elaborate on that?”
Rex flushed, nervous… how should he respond??
“Can I have a moment…?” Rex asked, taking Jack’s hand and slowly turning to leave. Nobody stopped them, so Rex quickly brought Jack out of hearing range to speak quietly with him. “What should I say??”
“I... I dunno, Rexie. Follow yer heart.” Jack was at a loss, though he knew he wouldn’t hesitate to pull his weapons on anyone who threatened his darling. Rex nodded and reapproached the queen, clearing his throat.
“Queen Perla. I must say, with what that poster said and Captain Falcon has told me… it sounds very similar to my story, and who I am today… except for one detail.”
“You’re male.”
“Indeed. But my father was a doctor, and a pirate before that. And I… I, too, used to be something.”
“Quit wasting our time,” Queen Perla threatened, preparing to tell her guards to escort the pirates out.
“He used t' be a wench. But he's nah, ne'er mighty was. 'n if ye try t' force 'im t' be the thing he ain't again, I'll make me frustration well known.” Jack spoke up darkly, holding Rex close by the waist.
Queen Perla’s eyes widened. Her guards helped her stand.
“Undress him.” She commanded. Jack whipped out his gun before anyone could make a move, shooting at- but purposefully missing -the queen to create a diversion before tossing Rex over his shoulder and fleeing the scene. Rex was in shock.
“Jack, what have we done?!”
“Possibly started a war! At the mighty least, angered more royals than we already 'ave!”

Jack felt he should’ve known better, and yet, Tortuga was a place that would always be there for him and his crew. What should he have known better, you ask? Should’ve known better than to think his “first-and-a-half mate” and lover was safe from others’ flirtation, especially in a place like this.
He observed, eyes narrowed, from the bar of the tavern. Rex Holly Janning, son of a dead doctor and a bloodthirsty queen, sat at a table playing some sort of game with cards and wooden chips and other men. Men who looked far too interested in Rex’s laugh and the way he played the game, kept them guessing. Jack sulked, not even touching his half-finished rum as he shifted his hand to cradle his fuzzy chin.
It wasn’t Rex’s fault he was more gorgeous than Amphitrite, but his attention and love were more precious than riches to Jack Sparrow. And as any pirate knows, sharing doesn’t come easily, at least not outside of your own crew and clan. He knocked back the rest of his rum and shook himself. It wasn’t like he was just going to waltz over there and embarrass him, but if he didn’t do something soon, he may just take an “accidental” shot at the man flashing Rex the brightest smile. He inched closer to focus on the conversation at hand as Rex laughed again, the sound making his heartbeat hasten in joy and his stomach contract in jealousy.
“I've ne'er met a pirate so well-spoken! Where 'ave ye come from?” The scruffy man with big teeth asked.
“The Kirkcoln Isles,” Rex responded, gulping down his drink.
“Aye, Queen Perla’s domain, the snobby wee wench. Wha’s yer ship?”
Rex smiled knowingly, shuffling his cards. “The Black Pearl.”
The men’s mouths hung agape. “Nay, certainly nah the mighty same Black Pearl belongin' t' Cap'n Jack Sparrow? The whole pirate world would've known if that ‘ad been plundered.”
“Plundered?” Rex chuckled, “I certainly think not. It is the very same ship, however.”
“Ye mean t' tell me... ye run wit' Sparrow's crew?”
“Indeed he does, full-pocketed curs,” Jack spoke up, sauntering behind Rex and playing with a rather large knife.
“Y’ave t’ be bluffin’, thar's no way someone like ye works wit' someone like 'im.” The pirates exchanged star-struck looks between clean-cut Rex and wildman Jack.
“Well, most people can hardly believe I’m a pirate at all, so what difference does it make?” Rex handed his empty cup to Jack, “would you get this topped off for me, captain?”
“Certainly,” Jack did nothing to hide his adoration as he brought the mostly empty cup back to the bar.
“Wha' position do ye 'ave fer ye two t' be natterin' like that? First mate?”
Rex displayed his cards, speaking in a low tone: “In bed, sure.”
One of the pirates briefly choked on his drink.
“Ye mean t' tell me... ye 'n Sparrow are 'bunk mates?'”
Jack handed Rex his drink. “Surprised?”
The pirates nodded, but the one who seemed most interested in Rex scoffed. “We all know Sparrow can nah be tied down. I be sorry t' say, Rex, he'll maroon ye sooner rather than later.”
Rex slammed his cup down on the table after a short drink, glaring at the pirate with an angry blush on his cheeks. He pushed away from the table and stormed out of the tavern.
“Look wha' ye've done now, load o’ jackanapes,” Jack scolded, making sure his pistol was even loaded. “Now, I could shoot ye fer wha' ye've jus' said, non-fatally o' course, but it'd be more useful o' me t' go check up on me partner I reckon. Still, keep in mind, I don't treat scallywags who cross Rex lightly.” He lazily yet deliberately waved the gun at the men at the table, pausing just long enough to make his point, before following Rex outside.
He found them not far off, leaning against a palm tree with their arms folded over their chest, looking down the well-lit street, crawling with pirates and other ne’er-do-wells of all creeds. Jack immediately stumbled over to them, placing his pistol back in its holster and taking their plush arms in his hands.
“Rexie, don't let 'em get under yer skin…” He spoke gently, but they didn’t look him in the eye, instead responding with a harsh sniff.
“I know. I won’t.”
The captain frowned, continuing to trace the thin fabric between his and their skin. He chewed his tongue in thought before clearing his throat. “They be nah wrong. I'd only admit t' me... eventful past t' ye wit' such humility 'cause... yer ye. But ye don't 'ave anythin' t' worry about. I be nah goin' anywhere that ye can nah follow.”
Finally, they turned their face toward him, their eyes landing on his lips. “If you’ve taught me anything, Jack, it’s that you can’t trust a pirate. We go back on our words and swindle people all the time. But I trust that you love me… and I don’t care about your past habits, honest.”
“Then why are ye upset?”
“Well, you know me… I’ve never been the most secure, even when I’m faking it for men like those,” Rex gestured toward the tavern. Jack’s hands travelled further up to cup their jaw, leaning closer to them.
“Blueblood, I'll let ye in on a wee secret…” He cleared his throat again, thumbing their soft skin. “'N’ if it doesn't seal the deal, I dunno wha' t' tell ye. It's frustratin' when ye catch other scallywags' eyes, Rex. I know ye can nah help it, bein' as charmin' 'n gorgeous as ye be, but I wish they'd stay away from ye. 'Cause I love ye.”
Their faces were inches apart, eyelids heavy. “Is that why you were sulking the entire time I was playing with them?” Rex laughed softly before closing the gap, kissing their captain lovingly. Jack clung to them but forced himself not to be too heavy with his display of affection. Still, he wanted to devour them, and he wanted nothing between their bodies. He hoped the grinning man would see them, enraptured like this, and think twice before smiling that wide around Rex again.
“My poor baby,” they cooed when they pulled apart, their own hand finding Jack’s cheek.
“'Tisn't often a cap'n like me finds someone like ye, Blueblood. Feelin' better?”
“Mm-hm.”
Jack squeezed them tightly. “That's all I wants t' hear.”

6 and 9 from your ask game for jack
(i'll assume this is for sparrow hehe)
Tumblr media
Thanks fer stoppin' in, matey.
6. What's your favourite sound that s/o makes? (Singing, talking, vocal stim, etc)
Ah, I'd 'ave t' say his singin' be one o' the most beautiful things I've heard on this vast, green Earth, besides the sea o' course. His praise 'n flirtation be… a close second.
9. Do you ever steal each other's clothes? If you could make an outfit for your s/o, what kind of clothes would you give them?
He does seem rather fond o' me coat, but otherwise his clothes would look a bit squiffy on me. I only ever wants 'im t' be comfortable, so I'd prolly jus' 'ave 'im wear wha' he usually wears, though sometimes I reckon he cares too much about appearances.

POTC s/i - Rex Janning
Son of an ex-pirate-turned-medic and a queen from a far-off land, Rex had been forced to live and work at an inn to survive after his father went missing when he was young. Still, as he grew older, something inside of him longed for freedom, adventure, and most curiously, danger. He often took walks down to his homeport to watch sailors and fish merchants do their work when he got the chance, and one fateful day a certain ship pulled into the harbour... a certain ship owned by none other than one Captain Jack Sparrow.
After crossing paths, Jack immediately took a liking to Rex and invited him to sail with his crew and learn the ropes of being a pirate. Rex immediately accepted, ecstatic for a chance to get away from his dead-end life... and besides, Jack didn't strike him as a very scary pirate in that moment, anyhow.
Now Rex, settled as Jack's "first mate and a half," often hears the words, "you're very well-spoken for a pirate," wherever he sails.

🏴‍☠️ Captain Jack Sparrow: Kind of like Wade in the way he's both hilarious and riddled with tragedy. Trust and reassurance is a big thing in this relationship, fighting for each other's honour. Don't go where I can't follow.
🤡 Krusty: Have I mentioned how I like my men with issues?? He loves me a lot though and is constantly grateful for my acceptance and support. "When everything's shit, at least I've still got my dollface."

been thinking about my parents au w/ sparrow and wanted to update/revamp the fankids i had with him on my other blog. i didn't really feel like drawing them but i couldn't really think of any other way to depict them other than picrew or the sims, so i caved and did the sims
abbigale (left) and briar (middle) are the kids i initially created. i first wrote that they were adopted but i'm making them our bio kids now. they are relatively similar in age, about 2 years apart, with briar being the elder of the two.
briar (he/they) is the more subdued of the two. he has a strong appreciation for the arts thanks to rex (my s/i), and is acutely literate for this reason. he doesn't mind the pirate's life but sometimes yearns for something more.
abbigale (she/her) is extremely close with jack and is passionate about carrying on his legacy. her brash personality occasionally causes fights with briar, but at the end of the day they care deeply about each other. overall, jack's crew is a very tight knit family. she probably learned some blacksmithing and swordsman skills from will.
the newest kid i'm adding to this au is finn (she/they/he), jack and rex's adopted child. she is very creative and outspoken and is the youngest of the three children, with 4~5 years between her and abbigale and briar. she's incredibly smart, particularly when it comes to machinery/hands-on work, so when she was old enough she could usually be found leading physical work on the ship. they likely have the strongest bond with the crew as he's never been shy about talking to them.
