Taeyong!Drunk AU

inspired by Taeyong's bubble messages last night

It's been quite a while since you were sleepy, but for some reason, you couldn't bring yourself to sleep. It wasn't like you were afraid of the dark; neither was it because you've had too much coffee. You were tucked in bed comfortably enough, and you weren't hungry. It wasn't noisy, but it also wasn't deadly quiet. The low rumbling of the air conditioner usually was enough to send you peaceful sleep, but right now, even that wasn't working.

You decided to give up and drain yourself to the core by grabbing your phone. Just at that moment, the screen lit up and displayed your best friend's name in your contacts: ROSE. What is he doing at this dead of night?

You opened his message and read: 최한. You awake?

You immediately shot up from your bed, all tiredness gone. Your best friend didn't have the highest alcohol tolerance, so you always worried whenever he had a drink.

You hastily typed out a reply. 조금? Where?

A few minutes later, you received: Don't worry. 겐찮아아ㅏ. , which only got you to worry more.

You started typing out: 어떻게? Should I come get you? Ask for someone?

But then ROSE popped up in your screen with "wants to call" under it. You pick it up.

“안녕? 툥이?” You asked.

“y/n 부고싶다...” His words slurred with alcohol. You try to listen to his surroundings, which was relatively quiet compared to the bars you've been to.

“Where are you, 툥이?”

“y/n... 너무 너무 너무 부고싶어... 그리고 사랑해.” His words stop you dead in your tracks.

“뭐... 태용씨...”

“너무 너무 사랑해. 좋아해요. 진짜 진짜 좋아해, y/n.” You couldn't believe that you'd be getting a confession from your drunk best friend, but you would be lying if you said you didn't like him back. You simply couldn't risk losing him by your side if you honestly tell him about your feelings, so you kept them bottled up for more than a year already.

And now he was telling you that he likes you. That he loves you. You did not know how to process this information.

“탱용이. Let's talk when you're sober.”

He went quiet for a short while before answering. “Drunk statements are sober thoughts expressed with courage. 너무 좋아해, y/n. I mean it. 진짜. 정말. I don't need any answer. I just want to let you know. You mean the most to me.”

He always had his way with words, and his words just blew you away right now. It was taking all your strength and willpower not to burst out of your room and hunt for him, tell him how you feel. But you persevered.

“툥이도, 너무 좋아해. But let's not have this talk right now, okay? Let's talk when you're sober. Are you with someone right now?”

You could hear his smile through his next statement. “아구, y/n likes me?” which in turn makes you smile. He tells you he was with Jaehyun, and you settled that Jaehyun will take him home. When he finally agrees, you drop the call and let sleep overwhelm you.

After all, tomorrow was going to be a long day.
