i’ve mentioned a few times before that coby is one of the most politely-spoken male characters in the whole manga and he’s honestly so proper that it’s instantly recognizable. i looked at this page and knew right away it was coby speaking because of the polite verb forms.

i think he’s the only marine we’ve ever seen to address pirates, even pirates he doesn’t know, with polite language- here he’s addressing hancock with the respectful honorific -san, and using the polite anata for her.

Hi I asked this before but I didn’t include the chapters. In chapter 588 and 589, Hancock proposes/insinuates that she wants to be Luffy’s wife. Does he say he won’t marry her or marry in general?

japanese sentences very often omit the subject when it's obvious from context. he just says 結婚はしねぇ/kekkon wa shinē, which is just "i'm not marrying", but since in context it's in response to hancock saying she'd make a great wife, it can also be correctly be translated as "i'm not marrying (you)."
