“I’m telling you, it’s not haunted,” Spot said. “Just because you’re a prince doesn’t mean you’re always right, you know.”

Race lifted the lantern a little higher. “Why else would an entire wing of the castle be abandoned?” he scoffed. “It’s definitely haunted.”

“Or they didn’t need all this extra space.” Spot took a few more steps forward. “Keeping all these rooms clean takes a lot of–what the hell is that?”

The way he stood blocked the light of the lantern, but the shadows were still moving.

“I was right.” Race sounded irritatingly smug. “It is haunted. Wanna keep exploring?”

Modern day sprace 👀

Okay so there exists this post talking about how in the scene before Once and for All in UKsies, Darcy pushes Spot away from the printing press when she tries to touch it and Race gets kind of upset by that, which was the inspiration for this fic.

Anyway, the basic idea is that Race and Spot have been friends for a while, and are in high school when the fic takes place. I've also decided just now that they probably run cross country and track together. I'm trying to decide if Race is going to enter the fic thinking he's gay or not. But the way I was planning for it to go was like this:

Darcy, who is new to the cross country team, starts flirting with Spot (and possibly asks her on a date)

Race gets really upset and acts like an idiot but if anyone asked he wouldn't be able to explain why

It takes him a frustratingly long time to get there, but he eventually gets hit with the realization that the reason he's upset is because he wants to date Spot

And then they figure things out! And then the rest of the cross country team makes a big deal of chaperoning them when they go on runs together (even though they're both very serious about training and save all their making out for after practice, thank you very much)
