“thanks for explaining the schedule”

They stood shoulder to shoulder, perusing the brightly lit array of rather sad-looking baked goods. Well, Simon’s shoulder was more halfway up Wille’s bicep, so it was more shoulder to mid-arm, but that was unimportant. They were touching ever so slightly and Simon was simply trying to remain calm.

“Let’s get all the standard questions out of the way,” Wille said suddenly, glancing at Simon out of the corner of his eye. “What are you studying, what’s your favorite color, what are your deepest and darkest desires?”

“I don't think those are all standard questions, Wille.” Staring resolutely at an apple turnover, Simon avoided the other’s gaze.

Wille nudged him with his elbow and Simon nudged him back, hiding the grin creeping onto his face.

“I’m studying music. Composition, mostly. I like the color purple but I am not one of those people who says they like purple but then take it to an extreme and only own purple things.” Simon turned to meet Wille’s eye and held up a finger. “I realize my argument is weakened by the fact that I am wearing a purple hoodie but it does not count.”

A beautifully cheeky smile spread across Wille’s face. Now that he had an up-close view, Simon noted the dusting of freckles across the man’s cheeks and nose and, more importantly, the one small freckle on his upper lip. He allowed himself one singular second to stare at that one small freckle before looking up to Wille’s eyes again.

“And your deepest darkest desire?” Wille asked conspiratorially.

Simon shook his head and turned back to the pastries. “You’ll have to wait for the first campfire confessional.”

“Hm, I must have missed that on the activities list.”

“Oh, yes. It’s at 9 pm, right after macaroni art and interpretive dance.”

“Thanks for explaining the schedule,” Wille joked. Simon stuck out his tongue at him.
