(not a request, just some thoughts to ponder! godspeed regarding exams dear elle <3)

Thinking about ploy!marauders x reader who get together after Harry's been born? I would think that Remus and Sirius would have been together since school. But reader's always been stuck pining after her loves who were all already in relationships.

But once James and Lily separate the dynamic shifts and I can totally picture Sirius throwing it out there that they should all give being together a good go. James and Lily are still good friends, happily co-parenting.

Just stuck on the idea of what you think the reader and marauders role in raising Harry would be? would they be auntie and uncles? or function more like step-parents? And when James has Harry for the week how would that change their routine? Curious to hear your thoughts!

so this isn't a fic but this is an inside look on how a lot of my fics are formulated 🤣😭

okay so I always hate the idea of Lily and James separating 😭 so either it was super amicable OR maybe Harry was the result of a drunken hook up between the two friends?? (before Jamie was with the other Marauders)

either way, I totally think the other's would have a parental/step-parent role. Like if the boys weren't called papa (Sirius) or da (Remus) etc, he'd certainly be like "at my house with my daddy and my moony and my pads!" and Pandora (I love me some good Pandalily) would be 'ma' and Lily was mummy.

So where @unstablereader and I went wild was maybe reader was our whimsical reader? And when Harry was quite young (toddler) and Siri & Jamie were aurors (so would be at work) and in a Voldemort free au we figured maybe Rem would start teaching earlier? That reader would watch Harry for them when it was Jamie's week with their son

And the boys were all obviously in love with her but none of them did anything about it yet. So we imagined this happening during one of Lily & James' exchanges or parent dates:

Lily: so, Y/N's been around a lot lately, yeah? James: oh yeah she's amazing; I mean, three of us and still our household would probably crash and burn if not for her Lily: *knowing smirk*, hm, so when are you guys going to make it official? James: I beg your pardon? Lily: please, Potter. I see the way you blokes look at her James: no no, it's not like that... *not convincing at all* Lily: James. Do you know what Harry calls her? James:........ Lily: he calls her "lovie". in fact, he calls her "his lovie". He thinks that's her name, James. James:...... Lily: he said, and I quote, "I was at home with my daddy, and my papa, and my da, and my lovie!" James:...... Lily: listen here; I have eyes, potter. and if she's as lovely as you're saying she is, you three better snatch her up before panda and I do.

then we imagined that maybe Sirius and Rem were close by

Sirius: *barges in out of no where* NO RED PLEASE YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO US Remus: Sorry guys, I tried to tell him to leave you guys to it. But now that we're here: Lils, please have mercy. The three of us can compete with you and Pandora??? Lily: you guys have a week and then fair's fair.

so a week later when Lily comes by to pick Harry up and reader is there

Lily: *sultry* hello darling y/n: Hello Lily! You know, if you'd asked first I would've said yes Lily: well if they don't treat you right, you know where to find us *James & Sirius come racing over* James: lovie, step away from the door right now Sirius: no more talking to Evans unsupervised *Remus walks in with Harry on his hip* Harry [speaking toddlerese]: mummy! is my wuvie going to wive at bof of Harry's houses? I stood there 10 minutes trying to decide whether to put her or King Richard. But this single scene was the one that made me fall in love with the show and how it turns tropes around and so yeah. This list was short of villains, furthermore and she is everything, go slay, queen.

Martha deserved so much better than what the show and the fandom gave her. She's a great character, she's strong and compassionate and kind and honestly she did it right in leaving the Doctor (here's a video essay of a person better informed than me). I am so sorry, but I don't like Rose all that much, particularly in the season with Tennant and I'm on the Justice for Martha squad.

10. Korra - Avatar: the Legend of Korra

I know her show has flaws. But her as a character IS NOT.

Again, I needed to have figures to deconstruct the trope of "strong girl" and she's it. I love her arc and how she needs to deconstruct herself to proceed.

(I love also Tenzin, Tenzin is my favourite and my love, but his character arc is to me slightly less compelling)

(don't ask me to choose just ONE character from ATLA, I can't, I'll stay stuck for two hours trying to decide whom I like best and end up running away screaming because I can't.)

On a book level I must add: Margarita from Master and Margarita. That book is my obsession and the reason I ended up studying russian literature and language. -even if Bulgakov was actually Ukrainian but guess how many people told me so and I won't start here on the subject)

Hi!! So I'm a fairly strong chuck won believer (i have been given some Extremely convincing evidence and I think its interesting to think about so) but I saw a post you made about how that theory disregards cas and jacks arcs and I was just wondering if you could expand on that? I'm super open to interpretations lol and I'm really curious to hear the other side (i haven't seen too much anti chuck won stuff so I dont know the arguments)

Okay, oh boy. I guess part of it is what exactly you mean by “Chuck Won” because I understand it on a censorship level. Yes, Chuck was representing the network. Yes, the network meddled and cut Dean’s reciprocation and we ended up with that garbage finale with pages of [OMITTED] in the script. So, if that’s all you mean by “Chuck Won” then yeah, whatever I guess.

Idk, some people probably feel it’s a legitimate theory simply because Dean died. It seems a lot of the fandom thinks death = bad…and that’s just not the case now that Jack freed the souls. I mean, I can throw quotes from The Mummy and Lord of the Rings at you about how death is the next step in journey. So while I’m no longer upset about Dean dying in general, especially because it was foreshadowed, the way he died was so fucking dumb. That doesn’t mean I think it has anything to do with Chuck.

Cas’ arc was all about self-actualization. His speech in Gimme Shelter explains a good part of it with how he found purpose having a family and becoming a dad, BUT him also realizing that having himself is important, too. Then, oh goodness, we reach the culmination in Despair (The Truth) when he realizes happiness is in the saying, in accepting your truth, both the good and bad bits of yourself. The Empty comes and he reintegrates with his Shadow to become whole and saves Dean, the world, and himself in the process. Yes, that’s a whole bunch of Jungian psychology stuff and it’s a lot to process and I’m probably not doing the best job of explaining it. Most of the Chuck Won theory stuff I’ve seen ignores all that and seems to ignore the canon that Cas IS in heaven. I understand the disappointment of Cas and Dean not reuniting, YET. Corporate fuckery (and Covid) kept it from happening in the finale with the original Roadhouse ending that was planned and then scheduling conflicts and Jensen and Misha agreeing Cas needed more than a cameo kept him from being in The Winchesters.

And Jack. Jack was literally the whole goddamn point. The two big things are he’s possessed and sometimes dead because of this, or he is corrupted somehow. I have never seen a convincing damn argument for either of these things. There’s one post that tries to compare some his mannerisms to Chuck, but is filled with so much straw grasping and reaching I’m surprised the author didn’t need a doctor afterward. Another is that some people project on the poor boy so much and just they don’t like his arc, they want to think something is wrong. There is a lot more Pagan stuff about Jack and the number of mythologies where some god is brought down by being a power hungry dickhead and that comes back to bite them in the ass as a grandchild in Jack’s case removes them from power. There are better people to explain all the Pagan imagery surrounding Jack; my tag #jack is the orphic egg should get you to some really good stuff. I’m also not down to argue about how the last 3-5 seasons are meant to read with a Pagan lens. There was one group who predicted the end of the mothership months in advance and then all of The Winchesters and it wasn’t the people clinging to some white Christian reading.

Last thing, I just personally find the theory really lazy as well. I would legitimately be so disappointed in Jensen and whoever ends up writing the next chapter whether that’s Robbie or someone else if they went that route. Luckily, they are all smarter than that and I can see them seeming to lean into it, but then having the most fabulous rug pull! This is very long, oops.

There were a million things he could say to that, maybe even a million and one. What he settled on, however, was probably the lesser of all those evils. “You kidnapped my counselors.” Travis’s whole face puckered at that, letting him know in no uncertain terms the lesser of those evils had still been pretty fucking evil, in fact. “What did you want me to do, Chris?! Huh? Huh?! You bit one of them! They both saw—” “Oh for Chrissake, quit fucking whispering, wouldya?” Obviously he’d been expecting something else—an actual fight, maybe—and so Chris took Travis’s surprised spluttering as an opportunity to dig his own heels in. “If you’re gonna bitch me out, at least do it with your big-kid voice.” A vein ticked furiously in Travis’s neck, making it look like something was itching to burst its way out of him. He narrowed his eyes to slits, then leaned in until the two of them were nearly nose to nose. He could smell the blood beginning to clot where Jack had split his eyebrow, the ointment he’d smeared over it before covering it with a bandage. “You and I both know,” he began again, still fucking whispering, “That anyone could be listening outside. I don’t—” Before he could finish that thought, Chris threw his arms up into the air, shouting at the very top of his own voice, “I DON’T CARE! I do not fucking care, Travis! I couldn’t care less if you paid me to! Know what?” He cupped his hands to his mouth then, tipping his head back as he did so, and, tapping even deeper into his (presumably very bruised) diaphragm, hollered, “I HOPE YOU’RE ALL LISTENING! I HOPE EVERYONE IN THE GODDAMN COUNTY CAN HEAR ME LOUD AND FUCKING CLEAR!” If Travis’s face went any redder, it probably would’ve started looking purple. It was Chris’s turn to narrow his eyes; instead of glowering like an asshole, though, he flashed him a grin, sarcastic and savage and sharp enough to nearly slice through his tongue. “Big-kid voices, Travvy. Why the hell not, right?”

You, Evelyn, and Jonathan watched the two men begin their descent .

“Evelyn, before the fighting starts, there’s--” You sighed.  “I’m sorry I got mad at you and Rick before.  About--” you nodded towards Ardeth’s retreating form.  “None of it would have happened if I had been a little smarter about all this.”

She shook her head.  “No.  You were right.  We overstepped.”  She put her hand on your shoulder.  “I want you to know, no matter what, you will always have a place with us.  Whether you stay on as Alex’s governess or not.  But,” she spared a small smile, glancing at the darkness the men had disappeared into, “don’t pass up any opportunity to be truly happy.”

“I--” you blew out a breath.  “Thank you.”

“You are just as a part of my family as Jonathan is.  No matter where life takes you, you always will be.”  She leaned forward and pressed her forehead against yours.  

“God, if you’re my sister now, I guess I can’t flirt with you anymore.”

Jonathan’s outburst provided some much needed levity to keep you from crying.  “It’s about time.”

One by one, torches began to appear in the distance.  The cover of night made it difficult to discern which spot of red was which, but the torches just seemed to keep multiplying in number.

“Oh, god, there’s a lot more than fifty,” Jonathan whispered.

As the party continued its forward movement, one of the torches at the lead abruptly began heading back.  “That’s Lock-Nah.”  You didn’t know how you were so sure of it, but you were.

Every part of you wanted to take him out right at that moment, but you knew you couldn’t.  There was no way for you to tell if Ardeth and Rick were in a good location for the fighting to start.  Still, your finger tensed over the trigger.

You looked over at Evelyn.

“Go.” She nodded, as if she’d known what you needed to do before you even did.

“Evelyn--”

“Go,” she repeated.  “And stay safe.”

You hoped you were able to convey your appreciation adequately through your gaze, taking off a moment later into the jungle.

Somehow, you’d managed not to fall on your way down the cliffside.  You were positive, however, that with all the roots and plants you were running over, something was bound to catch your feet and trip you up.

“What the hell am I doing?” 

You narrowly caught yourself from going down.

“And now you’re talking to yourself.” You huffed.  “Get it together, girl.  Ardeth’s going to do something stupid, like try to take that bastard on by himself.”  You growled, “‘It’s because he’s bested me.’ Over my dead body.”

You were going to have to have a very serious talk with that man about his infuriating self-sacrificing nature.

All of a sudden, you could hear chittering up ahead of you, followed by a very weak, but familiar cry.

“Oh my god.”

You continued circling back behind the cultists, and were almost back to where you knew Jonathan and Evelyn were waiting when thunder began echoing through the canyon and the wind began to pick up.  You could feel your companion becoming restless through your jacket that you’d wrapped around him.

“Don’t even think about it, Horus,” you chastised.  “That bandage on your wing is secure, but it won’t stay that way if you start fidgeting around.”

You’d think he was glaring at you.

Shaking your head, you continued forward.  “No, I’m not letting anything else happen to you.  You’re too important to us.”

His feathers ruffled and he cried out.

“See, this is what I mean.  You need to rest and heal and--” You caught yourself and scowled.  “Do not let him know I quoted him.”  You couldn’t imagine Ardeth gloating, but that ‘knowing’ smile of his was easy to picture.

When the shooting started, you broke into a run.  Horus was not happy with the sudden jostling and let you know with an indignant squawk. 

“I know, I know.  But I’ve got to go help.”  You spotted a tall tree a few feet away and hurried to it.  “I’m going to put you up high, out of sight.”  You did your best to climb one-handed, your other cradling Horus, still tucked in your jacket.  Once you figured he’d be out of harm’s way, you settled the bundle on a wide branch.  “Do not do anything stupid, ok?”  You pointed at him as if you were scolding a child.

Horus let out a chirp and rubbed the side of his head against your finger.

You took that as his sign of agreement, kissed the top of his beak, and scrambled out of the tree.  Then you took off again.

“Dad!”

There was shooting and screaming all around you, but you’d know that voice anywhere.

Rick’s was the next you could make out.  “Alex!” 

You turned in the direction of their voices when a blur of black raced past you, followed by the sounds of metal-on-metal.

“Damn it.”  

Of course he just wouldn’t be able to help himself.

As soon as you came upon them, you watched, helpless to prevent Lock-Nah from kicking wide and sweeping Ardeth’s feet out from under him.  He managed to roll with it, but the man in red already had his sword ready to strike.

“No!”  You did the only thing you could think of and leapt forward, tackling Lock-Nah to the ground.

Your triumph was short-lived and he reminded you of just how strong he was when he threw you off of him, your back slamming against a tree.

“______!”

You couldn’t manage to respond before Lock-Nah was on his feet again.  Except this time, Ardeth had the upper hand.

Their blades met a few more times when Ardeth swung his fist and caught the other man on the side of his face.  From where you’d been tossed, you silently cheered as several more punches landed.  Then Ardeth brought his blade down, hard, slicing him down the front.  Another swing, and his throat was slashed.

“That…was for Horus.”

As soon as Lock-Nah fell, Ardeth was at your side.

“Horus--Ardeth--”

“What were you thinking?!”

“Don’t yell at me, please.” You spoke before he had the chance to.  “I couldn’t let you have all the fun.”

“You’re going to be the death of me, I believe.” He groaned as he helped you to your feet.

“Oh, I certainly hope not.”  

Another man in red appeared behind Ardeth when a shot rang out.  Your heart stopped, then practically flew out of your chest when the man dropped instead of Ardeth.  You and he both looked up to the ledge to see Jonathan nodding at you before moving to take another shot.

“Rick has Alex.  You must go find them and--”

You grabbed his arm.  “I’m going with you.”

“I must go to my people.”

“I know.”

He shook his head.  “The creature has not been stopped and is on his way to raise the army--”

“Of Anubis.  Yes, I know this, too.”  You began pulling him away from the fighting, deeper into the jungle.

Only, he stopped moving, completely.  “You do not understand.  You will be much safer with--”

Rolling your eyes, you cut him off, yet again.  “Alex is safe and I’m going with you.  We are wasting time with you arguing with me.”  Instead of trying to tug him further, you dropped his hand and started off.  If he wasn’t going to be moved, then you’d just have to lead him.  “Besides, Horus!”

He sighed in frustration, but finally began moving in the right direction.

Ardeth had just caught up to you when he suddenly reached around you and yanked your gun from its holster on your hip.  He fired off two quick shots that left behind a screech and a scattering of small bones.

“The hell?”

“The creatures of this jungle that guard the pyramid.”  He didn’t hand you back your gun.  “They are all over this place and will kill any living thing they find.”

Dread filled your heart.  “Oh, god.  Horus!”  You picked up your pace, knowing that Ardeth would be right behind you still.

“What?”

“I found him!”  You gasped, not used to all the running that had very recently become your life.

“You found…”

You ignored your irritation that he didn’t sound the least bit out of breath.  “I found Horus!”  You skidded to a halt in front of the tree you’d left him in, half expecting to see one of those horrid little creatures trying to attack him.  “That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you!”

Instead, you found your jacket exactly as you’d left it, still bundled around the injured bird.  At the sound of you climbing the tree, Horus poked his head up, chittering away as he spotted you and Ardeth.

“How?”

You gently lifted the bundle and passed it down to him.  “He must have fallen when his wing was hit, but he survived.”  You hurried down.  “I found him on my way to you.”  You smiled as you watched him gently examine Horus, taking in the bandage you’d carefully wrapped around his wing, a look of wonder on his face.  “Aren’t you happy now that I followed?”

Instead of immediately answering, he leaned down and kissed you.  Caught off-guard, it was over before you could truly process and respond.

“My best and most clever friend,” he smiled, “and my sweet girl.”  He reached up and brushed his thumb along your cheek.  He leaned down again, this kiss much softer and slower.

Mindful of his hold on Horus, you pressed against him.  As your lips moved with his, you slid your hands up his chest to rest them on his shoulders.  All thought had left your mind and you focused only on what you could feel.

A moment later, Horus began chittering again, much louder than before.  Begrudgingly, you broke the kiss, but found you were a little short on breath.  “You’re right, of course, Horus.  We’ll have more time for this once we win.”

So, I fancy doing the Tom Cruise challenge, but I’m really bad at doing things day by day, so I’m just going to answer them all now while I have a free moment lol.

Opinions ahead 😆

1. First movie of his you remember seeing:

War of the Worlds at the cinema. I hadn’t actually seen many of his films prior to a few years ago when I decided to work my way through his filmography. I’ve now seen them all, so I quickly made up for lost time.

2. The last movie of his you watched:

A Few Good Men.

3. Which of his movies have you watched the most:

Rock of Ages 14 times and Top Gun: Maverick 11 times.

4. Favourite movie:

TG:M. No question. That movie changed my life.

5. Least favourite movie:

Either Rain Man or Cocktail. I like his performances in them, but I’m not fans of the films as a whole.

6. Favourite character:

Gotta be Mav, though Lestat is a very close second. The dramatic bitch 🥰 (and Les Grossman but shh)

7. Least favourite character:

Probably David Shawn from TAPS.

8. Underrated movie:

The Last Samurai. The friendship between Tom and Ken Watanabe in that film is sublime. Also the quote, “For 500 bucks I’ll kill whoever you want. But keep one thing in mind, I’ll happily kill you for free.” Is pure BDE right there.

9. Most overrated movie:

I don’t think there is one. I think he has one of the strongest filmographies of any actor going and he never phones in a performance. He has so many strong performances and brilliant films, that one’s I think are incredible others have never seen or even heard of. And I know Top Gun and the MI films are always mentioned in relation to him, but I love those films so I’m happy they’re so adored.

10. Favourite haircut:

Either of these two looks. Though I usually prefer his longer hair.

11. Least favourite haircut:

The Minority Report haircut 🥲

12. Which movie would you like to see a sequel to:

Edge of Tomorrow. Or, and I doubt anyone would agree, The Mummy. Mainly because I love him as himbo Nick Morton and I want to see more of him causing chaos when he’s not human.

13. Favourite line from one of his movies:

Other than the quote from The Last Samurai posted above, probably the one from Knight and Day when he’s like, “Nobody follow us, or I’ll kill myself and then her.” 🤣

Too many to choose from, but I am a very big fan of him singing Pour some sugar on me in Rock of Ages, I must say 🥵

Ghost protocol. It’s the one I’ve watched the most. The opening prison scene and the Burj Khalifa scene are just * chef’s kiss *

I love all his stunts, because he puts so much time and energy into them they looks effortless, but I have a soft spot for the silly little stunt in Rogue Nation where he just slides over the car bonnet and then falls off instead of landing gracefully 😆

I’m gonna have to say Mav purely because I’ve written him the most and he feels like a friend at this point.

Umm..I don’t have anyone specific in mind, but I want him to play another villain like Vincent or Lestat, or another sweary character like Frank TJ Mackey, because I love when he plays darker characters.

Top gun : maverick. Hands down.

21. Which director would you like to see him work with:

Guy Ritchie (for the swearing) or David Fincher.

My heart wants to say Magnolia because I LOVE that performance, it’s so fascinating and complex. But he really is incredible in Born on the Fourth of July. He should just have three have won for all three Oscars lol.

Apart from TG:M that he was snubbed for this year, when he effortlessly broke my heart I will say Collateral and A Few Good Men. The first one because the way he goes from completely in control to slowly devolving is masterful, and the second because he goes up against Jack Nicholson in that court room and gives as good as he gets.

26. Favourite 80s era movie besides Top Gun:

The Outsiders, though I do have a soft spot for how pretty he is in Legend.

27. Favourite co star:

Val Kilmer, Miles Teller or Simon Pegg. His chemistry with all three is magical.

28. Favourite fight scene:

The bit in MI:2 when him and Dougray Scott drive at each other on motorbikes, crash into each other in the air and then roll around in the sand before Tom gets a knife nearly in the eye. So dramatic. I love it.

29. Actor you’d like to see him work with:

Ralph Fiennes. He’s my favourite actor, so to see them both in something together would be incredible.

30. Favourite tom era in general:

Now. He looks so good and happy. Baby girl is flourishing. (Though his look when he was doing IWTV stuff was very sexy).

We have pulled heavily from Susanna Clarke's novel Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. Always glad to find another fan! The historical fantasy setting is very similar to it, with additional elements pulled from classic literature (Jane Austen works, for example) and fantasy adventure dramas (The Mummy, The Librarians, Stardust) - think Regency Era customs with Victorian Age intrigue and a society that aligns magic with science and theology.

Multi-part question. Fo you ever see a trope (on tumblr, in media, etc) and think "oh I wanna include that in a story" or "I wanna do a twist on this" and then do you, most of the time, actually include it or just hoard it in your stash for an ambiguous later?

I had to think on this because I couldn't think of anything off the top of my head. I still cannot think of anything I've seen HERE. Where I do find not tropes, but plot lines, characters, etc is in the media I consume. Most of the time I start the wip, even if it then sits for a bit because once an idea comes, the characters tend not to shut up! LOL I'll give you a few examples below the cut.

Princess of Thieves was inspired actually by a "writing prompt" of - a princess runs away to avoid a marriage and joins a band of rogues. She falls in love with one, who she later finds out is the Prince. - I liked the IDEA, but my characters went - NO, she falls in love with the KNIGHT, but the Prince falls in love with her...and...we have a story.

Behind These Masks took all of my favorite archeology and relic hunting shows and squished them all together into one story. Indiana Jones, The Librarians, The Mummy, and Tomb Raider all twisted and turned.

Tapperhet was inspired by the Rascal Flatts song "Won't Let Go", but instead of a love song, I wanted it to be between friends. That found family, siblings, steadfast love that doesn't bend or break, no matter what comes. The details the characters decided for me from a quote, "I am the daughter of a King who has forgotten my name".

The relationship in The Imperium Chronicles between Leandre and Yael is inspired by Chris Mann's song "North Star". When I decided to add my roleplaying characters into The Imperium Chronicles, I was trying to figure out how to, and adding them as companions to some of my existing strong ones seemed the best way. I had music playing. When this song came on, the characters led the way.

The whole of The Imperium Chronicles kind of started as fan fiction of Cassandra Claire. Me and some of my friends threw out the parts of her world we didn't like (a whole fuck ton) and kept what we did then filled in the blanks with our own ideas. That was over a decade ago, and what I'm writing now has very little semblance of how it started, but it was built on her ideas.

I'm not sure if this is quite what you meant, but this is a lot of how my writing goes. I have a scene written for The Andromeda Effect that was inspired by 21 Pilots "Heathens". It's in the future when Adira has reclaimed her power and who she is, so Caliban and Theron introduce her to the Counsel of Family Heads. The scene played out in my head as I was listening to the music.

Anon, I want to ask my nursing girlfriends so bad but I don’t want them to ask follow up questions and I would like to keep my friendships. But I did what I do best. Research! And by research, I mean me using google search bc I’m brain dead from my capstone paper.

Unfortunately, I didn’t find any results with the 3 mins i looked. Did not see the actual emergency online, so no emergencies with said outcome occurred irl and apparently, he was going to die anyway.

My guess, is that perhaps, because his body became so stiff, think mummy-like stiff, doing chest compressions was like a fatal blow to the chest. Imagine banging a very ripe pumpkin to the ground, remains are everywhere. I don’t know if that state, will take to be frozen in a specific degree, but my guess it was very low? I thought being frozen decelerates the purification process, but idk crap all about medicine so Twitter may be onto something 😂

1.) Avatar.  No, not The Last Airbender, don’t even mention that abomination after this sentence. James Cameron’s Avatar. Probably has a lot to do with the music and special effects. It’s almost like I’m watching a documentary instead of a movie, which is a pretty dope mindfuck. And that scene where Neytiri shouts “Eywa has heard you!”? *sobbing*

2.) Titanic. Yet another James Cameron flick. I must have a soft spot for perfectionist Canadians. At any rate, I like the movie not for the “romance” or young Leo (which doesn’t hurt), but rather just for it being about Titanic itself. I’ve always been fascinated by Titanic, the ship and its history and all that. And, once again, the movie’s music; James Horner’s soundtrack *chef’s kiss*/*violent sobbing*

3.) The Mummy. Stealing this one from you, @indrid-hot. I don’t care how often it’s on TV, how “overplayed” it might seem. It’s just a classic go-to that I never get tired of. Adventure, comedy, a touch of romance. Good times.

4.) Hocus Pocus. Need I even explain it? Halloween. Comedy. A catchy musical number. Adult themes/dialogue that went over my head as a child that I get to laugh at today. It’s a classic.

5.) Van Helsing. Another one of those The Mummy-esque vibes where it never gets old for me. Sure, the vampire actors’... well... acting.... didn’t do much for me, but hot damn if I’m not a sucker for young Hugh Jackman with long hair, or any other brooding dark-haired male protagonist with a traumatic/dark past. My friend Echo and I lovingly say in regard to myself “I have a type, I have a problem”, and it probably started with this movie.

6.) Tangled. Bruh, the first time I saw the scene for and heard the song “I See the Light”, I lost it. So beautiful. And Rapunzel PHYSICALLY standing up to Mother Gothel? Yaaasss queen!

7.) Corpse Bride. It’s short and sweet and Halloween-y and who doesn’t love the wrongdoer receiving eternal damnation while the one he wronged rests in peace at the end?

8.) The Land Before Time. The first seven, maybe first nine movies. Absolute childhood nostalgia. Sure, watching them now would probably make me cringe with embarrassment like “how the Hell could I have ever watched this?”, but when I was a kid they were some of the epitome of comfort movies.

9.) O.G. Pokémon Movies (particularly “The First Movie” and “3″ with Entei). Speaking of nostalgia, these. I will 100% watch these as an adult and NOT cringe with embarrassment. But I will bawl my eyes out because what hurt more to my traumatized 5 year-old self than watching Pikachu try to revive a stone-petrified Ash, or Entei sacrificing himself? And Mewtwo’s quote at the end? That was deep for a children’s movie; Hell, it’s deeper than a lot of shit being made out there right now.

10.) Schindler’s List. Yes, the movie depicts one of the worst times in recent history, possibly even in all of history. It’s dark and painful and to some it’s so incredibly traumatizing they can’t even bring themselves to watch it, but for me it serves as a cautionary reminder. It reminds me that history may be “written by the victors” as the saying goes, but victory can be stained and tarnished. It reminds me of humanity’s darkness, what we’re capable of, and how important it is to stand against that darkness. Not that I don’t see humanity’s darkness in today’s current climate (social, environmental, etc.), but we often lose ourselves in the world’s present or OUR SPECIFIC past, rather than see how knowing the world’s past can influence someone in the current time to make their present a better one. This movie is a wakeup call in a lot of sense, a painful reminder, a visual that helps reset myself when I’m feeling overwhelmed or don’t know how to feel at all. That’s why I find it “comforting”.

5 Movies, 4 Songs, 3 Essentials, 2 Books, 1 Quote

Hoo boy. I've got some major thinking to do on this one hahaha. In the meantime, thank you to both @signifiquint and @bluesundaycake for the tag! <3

Movies - I normally forget these as soon as I finish watching them, so let's see how I do here. In no particular order...

1- Don't Look Up: I am annoyed by how much I liked this movie. I watched it while I was super sick over the winter and just lay there on the couch having existential dread for eons after lol. But it definitely stuck with me.

2- The Last Unicorn: When I tell you that this movie meant a ton to me though. Just a staple of my childhood, pure nostalgia.

3- OK look I know it's not the point of this exercise but I can't separate them: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy extended edition because momma didn't raise no quitter. I absolutely adored the books. The soundtrack was gorgeous, the set design and characters were amazing, and I may or may not have been a little obsessed with both Liv Tyler and Dominic Monaghan sooooooo yeah. Also, Billy Boyd had NO FUCKING RIGHT tearing my heart out and flinging into the fires of Mount Doom like that but okay.

4- The Mummy: [helpless bisexual noises]

5- The Hunchback of Notre Dame: Speaking of animation that I absolutely loved... this movie was just absolutely gorgeous. The soundtrack still hits like a truck.

Books - Look I haven't been very good about reading actual literature recently so uh. Here's my favorites from when I was a kid, minus LotR.

1- The Red Fairy Book - compiled by Andrew Lang (my mom had this and I absolutely adored stealing it from her. It's a compilation of a bunch of different fairy tales and is the only place I've been able to find Dapplegrim, which was one of my favorites.)

2- The Crystal Caves - Mary Stewart. (Also one of my mom's. This is the first of the Merlin Trilogy Stewart wrote -- tetrology if you count the Mordred one. This one was one I read and reread a lot.)
