Isnt advent calendar (the actual tradition) a Christmas thing only? you said there is no theme but everything even your graphics appear to be Christmas-themed... dont get me wrong, nothing is wrong with being christmas only! its just weird to turn around & say youre not, especially since youre named after a Christmas only tradition, have Santa hats, Christmas trees & other Christmas exclusive decorations. theres nothing including other holidays. It seems Christmas themed to me so why say ur not

Hey there, thank you for your question!

To start off, yes, an Advent Calendar, traditionally is linked to Christmas. But we’ve only called ourselves that because the reveals happen from the 1st to the 24th of December - Much like a traditional Advent Calendar. As kids, our mods would always get advent calendars filled with chocolate for Christmas. But that doesn’t mean we didn’t have chocolate the rest of the year! It just means we got some extra during Christmas.

In that same vein of reasoning, just because we named ourselves “Swan Queen Advent Calendar” doesn’t mean the collection's contents have to be Christmas themed. We ONLY named ourselves that because of the reveal dates - which give us all an extra healthy dose of Swan Queen in the 24 days leading up to Christmas.

That being said, we have always maintained that there is no obligation what-so-ever to follow the theme, be it Christmas or otherwise. We accept all holiday themes, as well as no themes at all! The last thing we would ever do is limit people’s creativity. That’s also why we don’t impose word-count minimums or anything of that sort. All creativity is good creativity. The only real “limitations” if you can call it that, is that it has to be Swan Queen, and it has to be a new piece of fanwork - And who doesn’t like new Swan Queen stuff?

We do offer themed prompts, yes. That’s because some people do want to stick to the theme, just need the extra inspiration. And we’re happy to provide that. But we also don’t obligate anyone to stick to the prompt they chose after having chosen it, so if they come up with an idea they enjoy more, we’ll accept it anyway, because we just want to make people happy via our collective love of Swan Queen!

Besides, it’s not like we’re going to go through every single entry - we have 92 sign ups as it stands and there’s two days left! We can’t exactly read every fic or look at every art to make sure it fits the theme.

Our position is clear: Any and all Swan Queen work is welcome. We’re sorry if there was ever any confusion about this, and hope that this clears things up. If you have any further comments, questions, or concerns, feel free to get back to us!
