March and April 2024
Flight Path
Planes overhead here are usually really high, so we might see a trail, but not hear them. Last week I got the shot of the old farmhouse and then this close one of an Emirates plane, which surprised me with another plane going the opposite way in the background.

Birds from the Garden
Blue tit sharing the feeder with long tailed tit, followed by juvenile green woodpecker and a lovely robin
A new visitor to the garden, a chiffchaff which chases off all the small tits from the feeder - even though it doesn't take anything for itself and then from the skies over head, a buzzard and one of a crowd of 14 white storks

Wasp found in our kitchen
July 2023
I asked for an ID via social media and was told this is a Braconid Wasp. Something I鈥檝e never encountered before. Apparently they hunt for spiders, so this one will have had its fill in our house!
If it鈥檚 not a Braconid wasp then it鈥檚 a member of the Ichneumonoid family.
Although they have wasp in their name, neither possess a sting.

On the Woodland Floor
Late April 2023
This is my favourite of all the local woods, it鈥檚 the one where we gather wild garlic. See my other page link
As much as there鈥檚 deterioration, death and decay after a harsh winter, the woods are springing back to life
So many trees have fallen this year, but they still host new developments and their weight doesn鈥檛 supress the beauty and bounty of another season
Take a look at my finds
Dog鈥檚 Mercury (Euphorbia family/poisonous) another sign of ancient woodlands
One of my all time favourites, the natural primrose. I absolutely love them
Early purple orchid
lesser celandine and a couple of single bluebells spreading
a little hard to photograph the beauty of the delicate dog violets
There鈥檚 a carpet of wood anemones, with their pretty flower and interesting leaves
Ferns are starting to grow again
Cuckoo flower - so called as it appears around the same time as Cuckoos begin to call
Another cuckoo name, Cuckoo Pint aka Lords and Ladies - the stem has the bright orange berries later in the year. Also a toxic plant
And of course, the glorious English Bluebells. En masse they are beyond compare
