SINCERELY SOMEONE WHO JUST GOT A REPLY THAT MADE ME WANNA MAKE THIS POST
Having finished the show...the narrative has so much contempt for this literal child!
They say in the first episode "No, we've taken him to child psychologists, he's not schizophrenic [like the MC's mother] and he's not autistic", but they don't make any argument for why or in what way he's not autistic, so you just have the show and all the freaking characters shitting on this eight year old boy for being inexpressive, very literal-minded, having hyperfixations, stimming and having *textbook* echolalia...but you see, we said he's not autistic, so it's fine >____> We can make it canon that the kid's father left the family because he doesn't love the kid because "he doesn't love me back, he's not able to, he doesn't have emotions like a real person, he's broken and empty inside, and our marriage would be great without him". And the dad's a bad guy, but the wife is still charmed by and sleeping with the guy who openly hates their son! (They clearly had to cast Phil Dunster and have him shirtless in a lot of scenes to try to explain it even a little bit.)
And the ending...
*spoilers*

They have the serial killer who can see different time loops say that the kid is a soulless husk of a person, because of timey wimey anomaly stuff. The mother objects and pushes back, says her son feels love even if he doesn't express it, so okay, characters' opinions =/= writer's opinions.
EXCEPT that the show then kills the kid! Or maybe he ceases to exist! Or maybe he slipped into an alternate timeline! They end the series without ever explaining it, just spooky ambiguity, making it so clear that this child's abuse doesn't really matter, because he's a sci-fi conceit, not an actual person with thoughts and feelings.
It honestly feels like the writer thinks autistic kids are creepy and wrote an entire sci-fi drama mini-series to try and justify it to themselves.
Have you ever wanted to see Jenny from Call the Midwife and Jamie from Ted Lasso openly hate and berate their autistic son? Then boy, is The Devil's Hour the show for you!
(It plays lip-service to the kid not being autistic, and they're clearly setting up some paranormal nonsense, but he is SO autistically-coded that it honestly feels offensive.)
AKA "Keeley Does Richmond"
What's the best birthday present Roy and Jamie can get for their girlfriend? A gangbang from half of the Richmond team, of course!
I've not been great about cross-posting my fic lately, but it feels important for me to share this smut with the world ^__^
