for this part of the final, i chose to depict my mental health healing journey through abstract. healing is NEVER linear and i really wanted to highlight that with this painting. pink is my comfort color, so the change from grey and dull to bright pink represents healing as well

for my connecting to the earth portion of the final, i created a snowflake-like formation with leaves as i anticipate winter and the holiday nostalgia that is soon to hit!

unfortunately, the weather hasn’t been the best, so i completed the silhouette assignment during my (now indoor) yoga practice. i gathered the natural materials i could find from my house, mostly crystals, and made my silhouette after my practice!

I was inspired by the 3rd piece by Eva Hesse. I usually struggle with allowing myself to do abstract-like art because I can be a little bit of a perfectionist, so I had fun once I was actually able to let go and flow more freely with the art.

For the midterm, I decided I would draw a vinyl record. Although they originally started being manufactured in the 30s, the vinyl revival is something I feel my generation holds near to our hearts. I bought my first record player along with my first vinyl, Born to Die by Lana Del Rey in middle school and instantly fell in love with it.

After helping my sister get ready for homecoming, I took her photo and interviewed her!
She said that one thing that helps her when faced with ridiculous beauty standards is detoxing her social media feed and removing any toxicity that might encourage unrealistic beauty standards.
Rebelling against beauty standards is a big part of her life by keeping a confident attitude regardless of how others feel about her.

I titled this painting “Change” because of the changing leaves in autumn and I based my color scheme around them as well. Autumn is my favorite season so I thought it’d be fun to depict it in abstraction!

As the semester picks up and the assignments accumulate, I think it’s important to remind ourselves to take some time out of our days to just BE. Life is messy and burnout is real, so prioritize your peace.

Take it Easy by Eagles is a song I hold very near and dear to my heart. It reminds me of my mom teaching me to drive on sunny summer days with the windows unrolled and the song blaring out the speakers.
I decided to leave my sticky note on one of the washers in my townhouse. Laundry happens to be my absolute LEAST favorite chore, so I’m hoping it can serve as a little reminder to the people who live in the other apartments to slow down, take a deep breath, and take it easy 🍄
