Not just terminally ill people (although I totally agree).  What if you’re dealing with a flare up of a chronic illness or a mental health crisis? You need care, perhaps you can’t work. Or you have a child or a spouse with health needs? If you quit your job, you won’t have health insurance you need for yourself, your child, your partner.
There’s no reason whatsoever that healthcare should be tied to work for ANYONE, it’s a way of indenturing workers and keeping the wheel of capitalism turning.
i support universal free healthcare for one simple reason: if you are diagnosed with a terminal illness you should quit your job. quitting your job is the correct response to terminal illness. but you can’t do that if your healthcare is tied to your job

Snape is tall btw. We can deduce that from the following:
Just a few days before Hermione notes that Harry has grown a foot over the summer, Harry meets Narcissa, who is described as tall, and notes that they are of the same height.
In Spinner's End Snape stands next to Narcissa, and is taller than her.
Narcissa looked up at him, her face eloquent with despair.
And also:
Standing up, she staggered to Snape and seized the front of his robes…Looking down into her tearstained face
Since Narcissa is as tall as Harry, and Snape is taller than Narcissa, thus Snape is taller than Harry.
Though maybe Harry is short? No. Harry is described in Deathly Hallows as being as tall as James Potter, who is repeatedly described as tall. The text made a note of pointing out when Harry grew a lot in HBP, and it doesn't do the same in Deathly Hallows. It is possible that he grew a few centimeters and that wasn't enough to merit notice, but that would not be a significant increase (since indeed it would be small enough to not be significant).
The reason people draw this conclusion is, I believe, because of the description of Sirius as "rather taller" than Snape in Order of the Phoenix. But that doesn't mean Snape is short, it just means Sirius plays for the NBA.

Hi- your friendly neighborhood ER doc here. I also have a degree in virology & infectious disease and spent the last 7 years before the pandemic working overseas chasing outbreaks and working in disaster zones, conflict areas, refugee camps all over the world. I’ve worked in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the US so I’ve had a pretty good opportunity to see healthcare in action in a lot of very diverse places. The US is completely OUT of control and it’s enraging and mind-boggling. I’m sitting here watching this pandemic unfold from within the US healthcare system right now in complete shock and anger. Our system was already a shit show (ask me how many people I’ve seen die, needlessly, at 20-40yo from not being able to afford insulin or having access to basic primary care that could save lives). I’ve been a patient (ironically uninsured and unable to access healthcare during much of my medical education) and a care provider—it’s frustrating on all sides.  We’ve completely given up. Our HCWs are burnt out, our hospitals are overflowing, we’ve cancelled “elective” procedures (ie. Life-saving surgeries for people with cancer, chronic diseases, painful health issues), and people are languishing in hallways of our ERs for days because our government has given up.  Whatever nonsense you’ve heard- Covid is not mild. Death is not the only bad outcome from Covid (although it IS bad and we’re having a 9/11 every day that no one is talking about). We’re seeing kids being disproportionately affected by Omicron. It’s excruciating to watch babies and kids too young to be vaxxed (and others whose parents “don’t believe”) struggling to breathe and in significant pain from what is very preventable.  Covid is not a “flu”- it is a mass disabling event. 10-15% of people AT LEAST will have permanent organ damage- to the heart, the lungs, the brain. Up to 40% of people will have lasting symptoms, fatigue, shortness of breath, memory issues, mental health issues. We have no idea what these things will look like for survivors of Covid 5, 10, 20 years down the line.   We’re not doing anything to prevent this. NOTHING. We cannot “personal responsibility” our way out of a pandemic anymore than we can stop climate change by merely using paper straws or recycling our coke cans. It’s absurd. We need vaccine & mask mandates, free N95 masks available to EVERYONE, unlimited FREE tests, and strong public policies to protect people. When we have surges, we need to lock things down- PAY PEOPLE TO STAY HOME. Why aren’t we paying people to stay home when things are bad?  I’m pregnant right now after losing a baby at 20wks in the pandemic of 2020 (which I had to go through all by myself while my husband was in the parking lot because our hospitals were full of Covid). I’m terrified- I’m doing all i can to protect myself but no one is protecting me. I’m vaxxed, I ALWAYS wear an N95, I advocate anywhere I can, but no one is listening.   Everyone deserves protection. Our elderly, our babies and children, people with chronic illness and disability. And also, just EVERYONE. No one needs to die needlessly or come crawling out of this pandemic permanently disabled because our government, which absolutely has the means to do better, has failed to protect us.  I’m so over it all. I’m angry, I’m tired, I’m scared. I feel powerless. I don’t want to work but I need health insurance (ironic, LOL!) for myself and my baby and my husband with special healthcare needs. I have $500K in student loans from fucking medical school. There’s no way out, no way to protect myself, my family, or my community.  And I pass by people hanging out at bars and restaurants and telling me things like “Covid is mild” or “it’s just something we have to live with.” IT IS NOT. We are FAILING. We prioritize capitalism and “personal freedom” over human lives. We will continue to have new strains popping up and decimating our own population and the world. Our healthcare system will fail further. A significant portion of our population will be permanently disabled and chronically ill. For what? A few billionaires and CEOs to make record profits?  Capitalism is evil. The US is a failed society. I’m so broken. I hope everyone is enjoying their “freedom.”

Actually, stopping the pandemic is the real pandemic.

Snolidays 2021: Snowfall
One of my favourite headcanons is that Tobias Snape was religious and made sure Severus went to church as well. Severus didn’t enjoy it for reasons, but he learned latin there and a lot of it stayed with him. As an adult, he sometimes goes there to listen and find some inner peace.

Did Snape care about Harry??
Tumblr media
The answer is "yes".
I think one of the most crucial aspects of Harry Potter is the relationship between Severus and Harry. Honestly I believe, Severus hated Harry all his life because he reminded him strongly of James. James was the only person who had bullied him, assaulted him and took away the love of his life from him. It's natural to be resentful. The best part is that it through the books Severus began to care for Harry. It's a very simple observation. If you read closely, Severus has called Harry for detention many times, insulted him, taken points from his house unfairly, but never in his life has he tortured him or physically abused him. Never. Him even having the right to take some strong disciplinary action when Harry told "you don't have to call me sir, Professor".
Even in the ending of the Half Blood Prince, he is clearly madenned when Harry is tortured. It is described how he angrily roars at the death eaters when they hurl the crustacious curse at Harry.
And the charm that played was entirely Harry's. He didn't see him as Lily's child when he hated him. Even in that hatred, that prejudiced dislike, he found space to appreciate the boy even though he loathes to accept that. You understand what I am trying to say right. Every time he made sure Harry got to safety in the most comfortable way possible. Knowing Snape, he shouldn't bother if Harry is alright or not, deal was to keep him alive. Yet he strove, and fought and lied so that Harry is safe. Completely safe. Snape even tried to stop Sirius from going to the Ministry at Order Of The Phoenix, even though how much he hated him. Only because of Harry. Sirius had absolutely no role to play in Voldemort's defeat, in the eyes of the Order he wasn't even a proper asset as he was mostly kept in hiding. Severus tried to save Sirius for Harry.
This is the part that most people miss out and this is why I love the books.
