hi my sweet!! it's so lovely to be getting such warm greetings from everyone (I still have a back log of messages to get through, but we won't think about that right now 😳). I'm excited to feel like I have the energy to dip a toe back in and show my face again! I'm doing very well - since I was last active I've moved into my own place, gotten a new job and met some wonderful people that I can now call friends. I'm very content right now. More ‘Straight Shooter’ lore yesssss I love that fic so much!!!!!!! Things I like to imagine after the ending: 1) JK about to go on his first mission and y/n cooing over him and fully kitting him out whilst Yoongi pouts 2) a rooftop date where Yoongi is like “sorry I’ve sniped here before but the view is beautiful” and y/n is like “you thought of me?? 🥺” 3) general domestic scenes in the Hobi/Yoongi/JK Household

I wrote this in like 20 minutes, thank you to @morndas for looking at this and assuring me it wasn't terrible (I haven't written anything in the straight shooter verse for literal years now)

Familiarity breeds contempt, they say.

Yoongi doesn’t think so.

Then again, Yoongi’s found he doesn’t always agree with what everyone else says - what they say, what they think, what they do. Maybe it’s because he’s always hyperaware of his surroundings. He has to be in his line of work, after all. Contempt is a luxury he doesn’t allow himself to foster. A single slip-up and he could be dead.

The lower levels are looked down upon by those who live above. In the upper levels they turn up their noses, turn away from the grime and the filth, the decaying foundations that have been neglected for far too long. Dirty, ugly, abandoned, they say, even as they continue to build atop them, profit from them. There’s nothing beautiful down there.

But they don’t know the city like he does.

They don’t know about this secret perch, hidden atop a darkened skyscraper, dilapidated and hollow.

They don’t know that the lower city shines.

All the strata rise from here, a graduated terrace that ascends upwards and upwards. Each level sparkles and glitters, glowing even in the darkness, a kaleidoscope of neon colour that would be a riotous clamour if one were too close. Instead, from this distance it all blurs into one, a shimmering gradient that softens all the sharp edges of this place into something beautiful. Being at the bottom of this cascading array means that an onlooker can tilt their head back and never find an end to it all, almost, like they could lean further and further back and never fall. That they would be caught in this neverending ouroboros of light and life.

There’s nothing beautiful down there, they say, but Yoongi knows that’s not true.

Because, after all, you’re here.

You’re here in the lower city, and you’re here beside him. You’re here, staring up at all of these lights with eyes wide open, drinking in this view, the endless constellations that make up a city of man-made stars.

“It’s hardly easy to get up here,” you say. “Not exactly a great place for a tourist attraction, if that’s what you were planning.”

Yoongi lets himself smile. He’s been doing that a lot more recently. Smiling. Usually when you’re around.

(Who would have thought?)

“I was using it as a sniper’s nest,” Yoongi says. “I thought you’d like the view.”

You turn towards him. As far away as you are from all those lights, those shooting stars, you still shine brighter still. (Bold, brilliant, bright. Beautiful.)

“You thought of me?”

(Sniper rifle of your making braced against his body, staring down a scope that you’d built, weapon loaded with bullets that you’d designed. The remembered press of your lips on his temple, his mouth, his neck. The lights of the city haloed around his view even as he focused in on his target below.)

“Yes,” he says.

(It’s just you, and him, and the endless lights below you. In your own hidden world away from everything else.)

And - with no bite behind it, no hidden laughter, nothing but a rare moment of unguarded fondness - you smile.

Familiarity breeds contempt, they say, but there are some things that Yoongi grows more familiar with day by day and will never grow tired of.

hello my love! I'll be honest I reread your first sentence a few times - I don't think I've ever said I wouldn't write a SS part 2, if I recall I think the only thing I said I wouldn't write a sequel to is burning bright (and generally that's a rule of thumb for any gift fic I write for people, as I only ever write those as standalones). and now I'm worried I said I wouldn't write a sequel and I've forgotten!! 😭 regardless! I also love hoseok's character, I love the dichotomy of hoseok being both cheerful and mysterious all at once (both in the fic and irl!) and I'm really pleased to see that other people are intrigued too. I had a lot of fun making that world to play in and write about and I think of it fondly.

About your fic straight shooter, can you tell me why y/n gets angry at yoongi when he showed up? On which part did yoongi treat hoseok like dirt? Sorry for being dumb, I can't picked up a clue😅 love your fics

hi lovely! you're not the first person who's asked something similar to this, so looking back I perhaps wonder if I should've made it a bit clearer.

the reason y/n was angry is because she'd given him a huge level of trust and privilege (being able to go into her new workshop without needed prior confirmation + knowing where her new address was), and he walks into a meeting between y/n and hoseok and rather than waiting for them to finish interacting properly, he asserts himself in a way that he shouldn't, even though he knows both of them. in the past when he's been at the workshop he's been silent in the background when y/n interacts with other customers, so it's more obvious that he's doing it for A Reason.

the way he treats hoseok like dirt is a bit more nuanced, hm. in the underworld in this story, a lot of people go by a pseudonym/moniker, so revealing someone's true name without their consent goes against the implicit "code" they have. especially in this instance as yoongi is incredibly taciturn and never reveals his hand, or his emotions, or how he thinks/feels/who he knows, so it's quite a big deal. he interrupts their conversation by revealing he knows Hoseok personally, and that he's close enough to know the Hope Broker's real name, so it's twofold.

(and then when y/n asks him why he did that, rather than apologise or explain or whatever else, yoongi butts heads with her, which is what riles her up even more. so yeah! that's why.)

I hope that makes sense! reading back now I realise I could have expounded on it a bit and that y/n's reaction seems a bit OTT if the context isn't clear, as a lot of it is implicit but I didn't take the time to explain that implicit nature as much as I could have 💕

Yesterday, I wrote about a post about the whitewashing that can happen in BTS fanfics and why we need POC writers in general - and in the BTS fandom. The beauty of such a large and diverse BTS fandom is that there are so many talented ARMY authors in our fanfic communities. As I mentioned in my post about how whitewashed BTS fanfics can be, I get especially happy when I come across fellow POC writers. Thanks to my own reading and networks of BTS friends and writers, I’ve compiled a list of BTS fanfic writers of color as a jumping off point to explore more POC authors and content creators.

Hello hello! Just read human touch and I will be stopping by to reread this fic with the same amount of joy as the first read! This is amazing! I was wondering something though. With V being a bot and is programmed to copy human emotions but not actually having them, can he feel pleasure? Does he have drive and desire to initiate the blessed act lol? Or does he have sex with y/n to please her needs because he’s fond of her?

I'm so happy you can reread it and enjoy it as much as you did the first time around 💖 in regards to your question, I've actually answered that before here and here 🥰 I do wonder if perhaps I should go back and maybe it make it more overt in the story itself, but I think of Taehyung's experience of physical pleasure in the same way he experiences emotions - he's technically always had the capacity to in some way, but it's not till he deviated/broke his programming that he was able to experience things as a Person and not a Machine. I might be reiterating what I wrote in one of the other answers I linked so forgive me for waffling 🤧 but I feel like maybe I need to clarify a little! (under a cut in case of the waffling getting too long hhhh)

you say that he's 'programmed to copy human emotions' and, at the beginning, that's technically true. he's programmed to imitate human emotion but he doesn't really feel things, at least not in a way we (as humans) can relate to. once he breaks his programming etc he starts to learn what emotions are, and how to feel them, and it takes him time to regulate it and get used to it (hence why he was so exuberant to start with, but over time mellowed out - because he learned how to regulate his emotions, sort of like we do as we grow from kids to adults!). I suppose if I had to turn it into a metaphor or something I would compare it to eating food when you have a cold and can't really taste anything? you go through the motions and you know what the food should taste like and you can feel it in your mouth etc etc but you're not really experiencing it. like, yeah it fills you up but it wasn't the full experience. once your cold clears up, you can actually taste the food and enjoy it and experience the whole thing. that's the sort of before and after!

it was similar with the physical pleasure. as a sex bot, tae was built with a lot of sensors in his skin - for tactile feedback from his partners etcetc- and he would have had "pleasure" and the reactions to it programmed into him, so he would react in as natural and as humanly as possible. once he deviated he would have actually experienced pleasure rather than being detached via circuitry and so forth; he does possess the drive and desire to have sex! he doesn't just have sex with y/n because he feels like he should/just because he's fond with her. he would still feel those desires even if y/n didn't want to have sex with him, he just wouldn't act on them, because he loves her regardless.

plus y/n wouldn't have sex with tae if he didn't want it either 😌 it's all about consent, and the two of them are both want it! I hope that makes sense and forgive me for rambling, I've always been bad at explaining things concisely
