So I've been practicing and can happily say I can now create characters without tracing over references. Still a bit rough, I find 3/4 profiles are helpful to me in figuring out facial structures, like jaw lines, cheek bones, head shape in general. A long ways still to go.

If anyone has any tips, tricks or sharable resources for learning simple rendering on skin (still struggle greatly with that), lighting and shading (for some reason all my lighting looks like a sunset glow), drawing super tight curls/braids/dreadlocks/etc, or drawing mouths/lips on angles, it would be greatly appreciated.

I have found resources that have helped, but sometimes different perspectives can be even more useful for me. I am more than open to any feedback, criticisms, comments or concerns.

I have finally found so.ething I thuroughly enjoying, and would like to continue on this path.

Yes it's his face again, but it was something I was more familiar with to get back into a drawing groove after a long while of not being very creative. And it was a great base for my dynamic light study.

If anyone has any tips or advice for lighting, I would love it. I struggle greatly with angles, and even with references it's a challenge for me to not overcomplicate it with little details.

I have several projects on the go, and my idiotic work just makes it harder. Oh well, I got the hardest prop for my demo scene done, so the rest of the scene should be fairly easy to pump out, them I can hopefully quite my part time job (where I get paid less than minimum wage, only by a dollar but still, it's not the worst job I've had and it's only temporary to put a little money aside) and get the hell out of dodge!! Go down south to Florida where I don't have to deal with Snow In LATE APRIL!!!!!

I'm almost done the project, it's in the middle of working on my demo reel, a story idea (completely irrelevant to this art project, just in case you thought it was some fan fiction, it is not), and I just started a new job. Long days makes for a tired Smidge.

A light study, made using only 2 colours and one brush in photoshop, and then I played around with colour filters. I can't decide which is my favourite though. I'm doing a little research on making prints for sale.

UPDATE - WE'RE HALF WAY THERE

I am very appreciative of the support and love for the first preview of my work on Eret. I'm halfway through recording the process and project itself. I have 8 parts recorded already (some were split up into smaller sections because obs kept crashing on me for 2 sessions, so I think I caught it all on time and didn't miss anything)

But I wanted to give another preview to show how far I am with this. I'm still not too familiar with tumblr and how it works. I think I can be messaged if anyone has any comments or concerns or advice, criticisms or suggestions of future art shit posts.

The world is so crazy right now, and we need each other more than ever, and my brain can only think of so many things to draw or do, so I'm always open to idea or art prompts. I was already thinking if nothing else comes ups once Eret is finished, I might work on the character of Dagur because he's fun and he curses in the show and I tend to gravitate towards chaos!

So thanks again for the love and support and hope everyone is keeping as sane as they can. Next post should be the finished project.

Character study/ speed art in progress/ rando sketch dump shit

I've found lately that my creative motivation and energy is low. So I decided to step a little out of my comfort zone and make sketch dump speed art videos about various subjects (movie characters, main or underrated, books, art itself) and then add a voice over of my process, thoughts or breakdown of the subject.

My monthly pains left me stuck in bed, not really able to move much, so that meant movie marathons. Which then lead to my first subject and muse. Eret, son of Eret. DreamWorks does phenomenal work, and they pay very close attention to detail, even in back ground characters.

It's still being recorded but here are the first few sketches of the character studies of Eret, trapper to rider.
