I believe I’ve no sorrows in life. I don’t mind being born as Waheeda Rehman again. But I’d definitely do it better.

Stretching one night into cinema is a formidable task and at times, Chameli's script seems stilted and the random encounters clunky. But what holds it together is Kareena Kapoor. Achingly lovely, she is by turns ironic, seductive, steely and tragic. This is a prostitute savvy enough to create sob stories to earn more money but also vulnerable enough to hope for love. Bose, suited and speaking in clipped city tones, is the perfect foil for her coarse beauty. At two hours, Chameli is a minimalist miniature.
Anupama Chopra’s review of Chameli (2004)

Tragedy happens in a comedian's life too. He doesn't laugh all the time. A villain can't remain vile and hated all the while. You can even laugh at them. Comedy is a part of his life, his character, his behaviour. It is not necessary that only a villain creates problems and only a comedian provides relief.

I could shop around if I disguised myself. But then I would miss the high of being recognised as a star. Ah well. I guess one can’t have everything
Happy 58th birthday to Sridevi. The loss is immeasurable.

This is a very strange profession, here’s a fact of your life and the actuality. Then there is such a lot of action and tinsel, glamour and halo and shadows. My becoming a film actor was more a twist of tale than a chosen course because I dared not to think I could ever become an actor. I couldn’t even walk up on a stage and say “Thank you” when we were to receive trophies at our sports meets at college.

She enthralled thousands by her honey-voice. Millions swooned over her beauty. She was anointed by fans as  ‘Malika-e-Husn’ (Queen of Beauty), and ‘Malika-e-Tarannum’ (Queen of Melody). She was Suraiya. The sovereign actress-singer of yesteryears.
She evoked the kind of hysteria [in the late 1940s] that can be compared only with Rajesh Khanna in his heyday from 1969 to 1972. Ask any old-timer and they would confirm that people bunked offices, schools and colleges, even shops closed on the opening day of her films, to see her films first day, first show. Mobs would descend on her if they got wind that she was going to attend a premiere.
Happy 92nd birthday, Suraiya (15 June 1929 – 31 January 2004)
