i make a lot of posts to the tune of "you're allowed to be horny btw" because it's becoming increasingly clear that adults being sexual in (clearly marked and blockable!) spaces is being stamped out and made out to be evil both legislatively and in the moral zeitgeist, especially among younger folks. not even in the "wait to be a horny adult online when you're An Adult" way, just an ingrained puritanical outrage response to *anything* that isn't chaste wholesome perfect all-ages allowed. it's unnerving and scary.

It occurred to me today that learned helplessness and sadism can be functionally identical in some cases.
You see this a lot with parenting advice in particular; someone says something like, "My kid really doesn't like being in a car seat/wearing shoes/brushing their teeth/some other thing that is required for safety, health, and/or legally, what do?" and there's ALWAYS someone who says, "Your kid has to suck it up and do the thing, and you as a parent have to suck it up and deal with forcing your kid to do the thing". Meanwhile there's other people trying to suggest why the kid might not like doing the thing and how these issues could be addressed ("car seat cover too scratchy? Sun in eyes? Uncomfortable shoes maybe, this other type of shoes would be better? Milder toothpaste or a second toothbrush so the kid can choose between the red and blue toothbrush?")
The "not even going to think about problem solving, just going to tell you to suck it up" approach could be motivated by a learned helplessness, "problems cannot be solved, only endured" or "I am not capable of solving problems" or it could be motivated by a sadistic approach to others discomfort "I don't give a single shit why you are miserable and wouldn't do a single thing to even try to understand why you are miserable" or "you deserve to be miserable".

AUs are so fucking funny. Here's my blorbo. In an alternate universe he fights everyday to keep himself alive against an uncaring world. In another universe he sings sometimes.

Saw a video of a tradwife being like “idk why women wanted to work” and I just- WOMEN HAVE ALWAYS WORKED. What do you think ladies in waiting, maids, servants, school teachers and factory workers were doing? Women worked on farms and in fields for centuries. Rich, royal and noble women were not the majority of the population. 70-80% of medieval europe’s population were peasants and those women did not just stay home and mind the house. They worked in fields (for the lord who owned the property, peasants only had like a small strip of land they could farm for themselves. Everything else belonged to the nobility) took care of babies (who upon becoming children also began to work). We have never not worked. The happy homemaker phenomenon of the late 20th century was not the norm for the majority of human history and the feminist movements of the 60s and 70s were not just about letting women get jobs, but for us to also be fairly compensated and to let us in to male dominated fields. These are problems we still face today. Women have always worked, we’ve just never been fairly compensated.

I could fix him. I could make him worse. Good for you. I could gently take the weapon out of his shaking, blood-soaked hand and hold him until he finally believes that he doesn't have to be defined by all the ways the world has hurt him. Then we could ruin the lives of everyone who has ever treated him like he's a monster who doesn't deserve love.

Hyperfixating on your own OC is so frustrating. Nobody else wants to rotate them in their minds the way you do and if you talk too much about it they can get impatient and exasperated.
My poor blorbo. Unloved by all but me and to a lesser extent my boyfriend. My blorbo OC is so amazing and I can't explain it to anyone else.
