get to know me meme: favourite books [3/10] — the hobbit (1937) by j.r.r. tolkien
This is a story of how a Baggins had an adventure, and found himself doing and saying things altogether unexpected. He may have lost the neighbours’ respect, but he gained—well, you will see whether he gained anything in the end.

He’s one of them rangers. Dangerous folk they are, roaming the wilds. What his right name is, I never heard, but ‘round here, he’s known as Strider.

End? No, the journey doesn’t end here... The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it. White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.
Rest in peace, Christopher Tolkien (1924-2020).

get to know me meme: favourite books [1/10] — the lord of the rings (1954) by j.r.r. tolkien
I expect they had lots of chances, like us, of turning back, only they didn’t. And if they had, we shouldn’t know, because they’d have been forgotten. We hear about those as just went on, and not all to a good end, mind you; at least not to what folk inside a story and not outside it call a good end. You know, coming home, and finding things all right, though not quite the same; like old Mr Bilbo. But those aren’t always the best tales to hear, though they may be the best tales to get landed in! I wonder what sort of a tale we’ve fallen into?
