On this day in 1831: 'Scotland's forgotten Einstein' scientist James Clerk Maxwell was born in Edinburgh. Nicknamed "daftie" by his fellow pupils at Edinburgh Academy, he went on to produce the world’s first ever colour photograph in 1861. The presence of modern-day electronics, radio, television, mobile phones, the internet, would not have been possible if it had not been for his pioneering work.
