Disney Lucas Film Limited had the trilogy of a new generation in the palm of their hand and squandered it.
Tumblr media
All of the elements were there, the lost children of the original story, one the groomed son of royalty the other a seemingly orphaned scavenger. This was a chance to create a new story for the next generation of Star Wars fans, as well as harking back to give others a sense of nostalgia. All culminating in an uplifting happy ending, similar to the one given to the characters of the original Star Wars trilogy.
But Disney just didn’t seem to realise, the journey of Rey and Ben was the final chapter in this story. It was their coming of age, the carving of a new path together, their sexual awaking, all while bringing a balance to the force and an end to the tyranny of the First Order.
With the loss of countless generations before them allowing for the emergence of a period of renewed hope for the galaxy.
Tumblr media
Personally, I am devastated at the loss of such an epic story of hope, forgiveness, unconditional love, redemption, and family in one rushed decision by Disney and Lucasfilm.
As a Xenial, not quite a gen x or millennial, I am lucky enough to see this from both sides. And I wanted so much for this film to resonate with both the new and long term fans.
Tumblr media
I haven’t even touched on the loss of Ben Solo or Rey’s identity. I don’t think I can even manage to express those issues with any composure.
I suppose I was shooting for the stars and have come away feeling truly empty.

so i have a mildly popular “reblog and put in in the tags” post going around and its. very clear how many people don’t know how to interact with a tumblr post
so, first of all, tumblr’s culture has changed a lot in the past couple years. there’s a genuine community effort to not start any drama, and ironically a lot of the current hostility is an effort to keep things calm. there’s also a change in how people interact with posts, so if you haven’t been here in a while please skip down to the tags/replies/reblog with text section.
for newcomers: you should be reblogging posts about as liberally as you would like something on twitter. if you only like stuff, people will think you are rude/a bot. you’ve probably heard people talk about “cultivating your dash,” and thats because this platform is 100% centered around your dashboard. trending matters less, unfollowing and blocking in order to shape your dash into it’s best form is widely accepted, the majority of the content you’ll find and interact with will be because of your dash, and the only way to put things on your dash is to reblog them. tumblr users are deeply distrustful of algorithms and have largely turned off the “see posts your friends have liked” function (i recommend you also turn of the various algorithms in settings → general settings → dashboard preferences).
so, once you’ve reblogged a post, there’s three ways to add content to it. the tags, replies, and reblogging with text. all of them have different connotations
the tags: an inside voice. originally they were meant for organizing your blog (and they’re still used for this), but they’ve also morphed into a way to share thoughts that aren’t funny/insightful enough for non-followers to be interested in. when in doubt, put your comment in the tags
replies: basically talking to your friends in class. your followers have no way of finding your replies (they don’t pop up on the dash, nobody gets notified except for the original poster) so chances are, only the person who made the post is gonna see your comment. it’s for quick one-offs that you’re okay with other people overhearing, but really is only made for one person. they’re like a public dm
reblog with text: an outside voice. you’re getting up on a stage in town square and entertaining people. make sure it’s funny or insightful— bottom line, add something new to the conversation. you should use this the least
general rules of thumb:
when in doubt, reblog. people will judge you if your blog is only personal posts and you only interact with other content by liking it.
the only things people will judge you for reblogging are personal vent posts. leave a like to give a little virtual hug
if a post is asking about your personality/opinions (i.e: tell me what’s the last tv show you watched, that kind of thing) put it in the tags
also if you see a nice edit, gifset, or art, reblog and say something nice in the tags! it’s that nice sweet spot of common enough that no one will notice but uncommon enough to make the artist’s day

hey new tumblr users
Tumblr media
Welcome!
Now, I’m seeing a lot of posts about new arrivals to the site that are confused about the purpose and point of reblogging posts.  I know that a lot of the sites you came from put a lot of emphasis on earning ‘points’ for your original posts and the only way to earn your own ‘points’ is to interact with others posts.  Don’t get me wrong - we love it here when you add a comment, either to a post or in the tags, but that’s not the POINT of posts here (for the most part).  The goal of a post here is to share.
You’ve got to think of tumblr less as a classroom where one person is teaching and more as a nature hike with friends.
You see a shiny rock you like.  You pick it up.  You show it to a friend.  They like it and show it to their friend.  Their friend puts a pair of googly eyes on it and passes it to their friend.  Their friend runs off to share it with a group of their friends that are looking at bugs under a rock.  You don’t HAVE to interact.  All you have to do is share the rock with a friend because you know your friends might like to see the rock.  Someone passes you a dandelion they picked.  You think its cool and pass it to a friend you know likes the color yellow.  They hand you a yellow leaf.  You pass the leaf back to the dandelion friend.
The point of having a blog on tumblr is to share stuff that you think is cool with people that follow you.  People will follow you because they think the stuff you’re scrapbooking on your blog is cool (or fun or weird or funny or heartfelt, etc).  You can absolutely paint your own rock and share it with friends.  But if all you do is pass on someone else’s painted rock because you think the people following your blog will like seeing it?  That’s awesome too.
We’re not really about earning ‘points’ or ‘fame’ here - this is your scenic rest stop on the highway.  We ARE about sharing.
So - share.
And if you want to add to what you’re sharing - that’s cool.  But you don’t need to.  As long as you’re sharing with your followers, you’re using this site the way its designed to be used.
See a cool rock?  Reblog that rock so your followers can enjoy it too!
