i’m going to say something that might make me seem ungrateful, but i think it’s true of many fic writers:

we want you to leave comments ON ao3.

we’re not angry or disappointed or anything like that when you leave qrts or lots of tags on our fic posts, not at all. we don’t NOT want you to message us to tell us how a fic touched you. but in addition to that, please consider just copying those words and posting them on ao3 as a comment.

why?

the reason is simple: leaving commentary in other places is ephemeral. story posts get pushed down. chats get pushed down in the list of chats, or worse, pushed up in lists of messages as the conversation continues. but comments on ao3 are easily accessible. and this is important because writers read and reread these comments regularly.

writing, especially writing longfics, is exhausting and drains your confidence over time. having a collection of people who enjoyed your past work at your fingertips is an excellent way to build yourself up when you’re feeling down. fic writers need this a lot.

i know over the past few years there’s this trend to be very descriptive with what is an “acceptable” comment. that’s all nonsense, as long as you’re not being an asshole, just say what’s on your heart.

but post it on ao3. please.

Still figuring out their designs, but here’s Minerva and Fernando in the TLOS AU! Minerva’s an Aether dragon (more info on that under the cut), and Fernando’s a Wind dragon with Water ancestry. Both currently live in Warfang, Fernando having moved there while Minerva’s lived there her whole life

They didn’t actually meet until they were both adults, but I wanted to do a little what-if doodle where they met as kids. They’re the same age, Minerva was just tiny as a hatchling (and then she never stopped growing,)

Onto the info about Aethers!

As a note: In this au, while appearance can be indicative of element, there’s always going to be exceptions. It’s kind of just up in the air over what will influence a dragon’s appearance more; genetics or element, though the two usually have a balance of some sort. This is how you can sometimes end up with “False Aethers”, dragons who have a lot of purple on them, but aren’t Aethers themselves

Instead of gaining all of the elements, Aether is noted to mimic other elements rather than being that element. Most Aethers have a specific element they prefer to mimic more than others. Minerva, for example, prefers to mimic ice

oh I wasn’t aware it was feeding the ai. I’ve inserted hundreds of fics into chatgpt for their continuation or for a different plot within the same context just for fun and out of curiosity… but I’ve never posted any of them…

Indeed, anything that is given to AI it can use later to draw from. That's why it doesn't matter if you post them or not as it has now access to those writers' texts without their permission.

Hi I was on vacation. Anyway here’s a design for Clotted Cream in a Spyro AU I have. More info under the cut

Clotted’s name in this au is Candela, and he has the element of Light (a somewhat new element, not much is currently known about it)

He was left at the temple in Warfang as his mother feared she would be unable to care for him. Imperos (Elder Custard) was visiting the temple the day Candela hatched. And, as it turned out, Candela’s an elementborn*.

Imperos was unable to have children of his own, but desperate to have an heir he could manipulate to have more power in the Warfang council, and so adopted Candela and passed him off as his own son.

Candela typically has feathers at the end of his tail, but he rips them out to make room for the custom tail end his father made for him to make them look more alike.

*An elementborn, in this AU, is a dragon who hatched with their element right away. Their element is naturally quite strong, and they often begin training as soon as possible so they can learn to control it

Prune Juice Headcanons

Devsis grabbed me by the fuckin THROAT with this man I swear. I adore him, he reminds me a lot of a character from a book series I read a lot as a kid (Deltora Quest)

So, here’s some headcanons for him!

ADHD as hell. Part of the reason he struggles with spell-based magic is because he has trouble remembering them

Other reason spells are so difficult for him to use is because he has a mana deficiency. He did not know about this until after the tournament, however, and has decided to just stick with potions

Before learning about the mana deficiency, he held quite a bit of bitterness and envy towards spell users. Was a bit self loathing over it, too, but hid it away behind his smug smile

Greatly preferred potions long before deciding to stick with them permanently as he could always rely on the written recipe if he forgot something, could make them in his own time in advance, and could rely on labels to know which was which so he wasn’t forced to try remembering them under pressure

Very passionate about his potions but also 100% in it for the money and fame

Seriously ask him about his potions and you will be stuck listening to him talk on and on about them for hours

If he has one eye open while smiling and his pupils aren’t dilated, that is a threat. If he’s frowning, that is a threat. If both eyes are open and he’s frowning, that is a Threat.

Refuses to make love potions. If you attempt to request one from him he will beat the shit out of you

Someone once wrote “Little bitch” on the tag on his hat and he didn’t notice for weeks
