At the gate for my flight home from visiting friends and there's a woman here with a service Shiba Inu. No pics because he has a Do Not Disturb vest and taking pics of strangers is illegal but I need to stress how ON DUTY this animal is. Ears up. Eyes doing Lazer scans of everything. Examining everyone who passes within 10ft like a security guard. Ass planted on her feet. I have never seen a dog with such intense chivalric guardian energy before. He has tiny eyebrows and they are FURROWED with concentration.

I get that the bookshop fire was traumatic for Crowley because he thought he lost Aziraphale.
I keep seeing people say they want Aziraphale to know what it would feel like to lose Crowley, but I'm pretty sure my eyes weren't the only ones open when this happened...
Right?
"And that was the last I was to see of Crowley for some time."
Aziraphale has lost Crowley. To Hell.
He could do nothing to stop what happened in Edinburgh, and I can't imagine that he didn't fear he'd lost Crowley for good here.
Aziraphale has experienced more heartbreak than some fans care to even acknowledge. He exists in constant fear of losing Crowley to Hell again. AGAIN.
We saw Aziraphale save Crowley from Hell in 1941 with the human magic trick he used on Furfur.
Aziraphale was the one sitting in the bathtub of holy water after the Notpocalypse, knowing this was the reason he'd been so scared to hand Crowley his own thermos of holy water in the first place.
He's lost Crowley to Hell before and he will do anything to prevent it from happening again.
That's the impact Edinburgh had on Aziraphale. This is the impact that losing Crowley had on Aziraphale.

Thankless (a 5 + 1) by silvergirl
Summary: Five times that helping Sherlock Holmes was a thankless task, and one time that it wasn’t.
1: De profundis
He’ll never admit it, but by the time I let Sherlock Holmes start collaborating with me on cases, he was this close to dying in an alley of an overdose.
What he saw: a harried, overworked, experienced copper of average intelligence, in over his head more often than not. And tethered by rules and procedures that Sherlock found completely pointless.
What I saw: a chained dog chasing its tail. Better: a racing dog in a leghold trap, kept from its life’s work and biting off its own paw to get free. In the process, destroying its ability to do its life’s work at all.
He was skinny and weak—yes, Mister Parkour, bartitsu, and all the rest of it. He’d no muscles or wind to speak of. His skin was pocked with needle tracks in the most bizarre places. (Claimed it was an experiment, if you please. To see where the hit would be strongest.) His clothing—track bottoms and long-sleeved tees—hung off him, his hair was long and lank, and he had pinpoints for pupils.
He’d turned up at the scene of a murder and rattled off a series of questions and observations and hypotheses. At first hearing they were weird, but just insightful enough to make me invite (order) him to come back to the Met with me. I made notes on his frenetic spray of deductions. It was amazing to watch him think, like seeing a precision clockwork whir and spin once you took off its sober clock-face.
