Dylan x Ji-won.
These type of events were not Ji-won’s style. If this was a more frequent event, maybe she would’ve learned to adapt to it. God, this thought felt like Deja vu for Ji-won. A thought she had decades ago. It felt weird having it again, but it passed quickly. This was only a one time thing, so there was no point on her dwelling on it. This was an excuse for her to get out of the house ( and away from her children ) and her friend to use the tickets she had ( since her date bailed ).
This event, from what Ji-won gathered, is a charity/socialite type event. A more simplified way to put it is saying its a fancy event with upper class/powerful people. For what reason why her friend had tickets to this was beyond her, but apparently this would also be a good place to promote her new restaurant she’s opening in town. It’s not something she’d do, at best she would find it cringy. But, if anyone where to ask what she does then she’d explain what she does. Which, in other words, could be considered promoting - just in a more subtle way.
She had fun preparing at home for the event. There was something exciting about getting dressed up to go out, but feeling faded as they headed to the event. And once she arrived their, her anxiety was through the roof. She knew she had to be on her best behavior. If anyone knew her, they know this wouldn’t be easy. But she knew she’d be able to manage it. She has grown a lot since she was younger, which includes her having more self control and maturity during important situations. She’ll still have her moments ( how could she not ) but over all she should be good.
From the information she got on tv, and what she learned prior, she grabbed a champaign and walked around the room. Around others she was well kept. She mingled with those that interested, she kept her jokes and sarcasm appropriate. Only when she was around her friend did she act like herself. Well, in a more appropriate way - but, nonetheless, she didn’t draw attention to herself. She did good with that until this very moment. A joke was shared between them and Ji-won could not hold in her actual laugh. The one that was loud, almost everyone in the room could hear it.
Ji-won quickly covered her mouth and walked away, finding herself along side a group of people. She knew everyone would look to see who laughed, so it was safer for her to walk off and hide amongst these people. It would guarantee that everyone would drop figuring out who laughed since they can’t find out who was the one that did it. She was quick to adapt to the group, taking a sip of her champaign and starting small talk. One would think she was a natural at it. Only if they knew how fast her heart was beating in her chest.
She took a moment to glance around the room, to see if everything seem to back to normal. Or, for better words, if everyone continued what they were doing and did not care for the loud laugh that happened before. In her moment of glancing around she spotted someone that looked familiar. Doing a double look, she instantly knew who it was. It was two decades since she saw him, and he has aged ( no doubt about it - though any comments she had on that she was pushing aside ) but, not enough for her not to recognize him. She came to terms, decades ago, that she was okay never seeing him again. It took a long time for her to get to that point, but she accepted it. Now, well, she doesn’t know what to do. Sure, at one point she was ready for this moment. But she hadn’t thought about this moment for years.
It felt like a prayer was answered when she felt her phone vibrate. She looked at her phone and saw that her son was calling. She wondered if anyone had felt what she felt at this moment, joy and dread at the same time. Joy for the distraction but dread for whatever reason her son would be calling for. She knows her son, well all of her kids. They are more like her then she likes to admit. Something happened.
Ji-won took a swig of her campaign before setting it a side. With a sigh, she answered her phone while heading outside.

That laugh, it had him pausing his conversation abruptly along with everyone else. However, Dylan’s reasoning is quite different to that of the other guests. There’s an unmistakable quality to the sound that he’s able to discern. Memories come flushing through his mind, he sees both a younger version of himself and her, their friends, having the time of their lives. Things were so much simpler back then, yet ended with so much complications. Dylan’s gaze follows the rest of the crowd’s towards the sound. On one had he hopes that his gaze doesn’t land on a familiar face, while on the other he’s willing it into existence. The fates listened and his blue eyes spotted Ji-won instantly. Older, beautiful, and strikingly so. All train of thought he had was derailed, his mind filling with so many unanswered questions.
He felt someone nudging his shoulder, it turns out to be a waiter he’d been conversing with prior to the boisterous laughter interrupting the proceedings. “Sorry...excuse me.” Haphazardly he gave them the half empty glass of fruit punch, and walked off. As his gaze trailed Ji-won’s movements, his feet brought him closer to where she was. It’s as if he needed a closer look to verify that he’s not going insane. Though, it would be just his luck to be haunted by ghosts of his past like this.
Dylan hoped that she would linger at the event, but instead she went outside. Instead of remaining inside and playing the dutiful role of trophy husband he continued to follow Ji-won outside. Pretty much reminiscent of the love sick puppy he once was with her, he trailed. He’s a comfortable distance away at first, ensuring not to distract her as she took a phone call. Dylan didn’t mean to, but he’s close enough now to eavesdrop on the conversation.

❝SHE WAS FREE IN HER WILDNESS. SHE WAS A WANDERESS, A DROP OF FREE WATER. SHE BELONGED TO NO MAN AND TO NO CITY. ❞
NAME: Zahra Litt GENDER/PRONOUNS: Female, She/Her DATE OF BIRTH: December 18th, 1993 BIRTH PLACE: Santa Monica, California CURRENT RESIDENCE: Ocean Park Boulevard OCCUPATION: Freelance Singer/Musician & Radio Personality FACE CLAIM: Ryan Destiny
BIOGRAPHY
TRIGGER WARNINGS: MENTIONS OF DRUG ADDICTION, MISSING PERSON
The 18th day of December in the year 1993 marked a momentous occasion for the Litt’s– Malaika and Francis along with their eldest child Zuberi welcomed a baby girl to the world. At the age of 4 Zuberi was excited to have a little sister, and even more so now that he had someone to play with and take care of. Although originating in Santa Monica, the Litt family moved around alot due to Francis’ military service in the U.S. Army. Zahra and Zuberi spent alot of their childhood living in places like Germany, New York, Utah, California, Arizona and Nevada. However, those adventures came to an end when Zahra was 10 years old and Zuberi 14. Thanks to botched robbery at her workplace, Malaika Litt’s vision became impaired. Due to the change in circumstances at home, Francis received an Honorable (Dependency) Discharge from the army in order to properly support his wife and raise their children.
From the moment she started singing, Zahra was dubbed; the little girl with a big voice. While her brother, Zuberi took a more practical route; he loved building things; puzzles, blocks, blanket forts. As a kid he would spend hours playing and creating his own world. Hopeful parents imagined he would become an engineer or an architect. Thus, they nudged him in that direction as he grew up. However, Zahra’s dreams of gracing a stage didn’t pan out as she hoped. While her brother was fully supportive of her chasing that goal, Malaika and Francis had other plans, as they only saw singing as a hobby. Their actions were out of love, but the very stubborn young woman didn’t want to go to college or find a ‘proper’ form of employment. Zahra’s arguments against that higher education pathway got her nowhere with her parents. In the end she had to comply and followed her brother to New York where she enrolled in university to further her education.
In his teen years Zuberi began to give trouble; acting out here and there, getting detention far too many times for his parents liking. When graduation rolled around, his behavior seemed to get better. Alas, in New York that rebellious spirit blossomed, and slowly but surely Zuberi found himself with mixed up with the wrong crowd. Drugs, alcohol, gang activity became the norm for him as he ditched classes to indulge in debauchery. Luckily for Zuberi, he was good at hiding his secret life from his family. Zahra in particular was harder to work around, but he still manipulated situations to his advantage. In fact, if it wasn’t for Zuberi’s coaxing, Zahra would not have tricked their parents and dropped out of university to pursue her singing career. A few wrong investments with the funds meant for her education –to people promising to make her a star– led Zahra into a difficult position. Seeing no way out of her predicament, she confessed to her parents, breaking their hearts and trust in her. Zahra had never seen her parents so disappointed in her actions, usually that was Zuberi’s role. Financially they could no longer provide for her, so she had to seek employment on her own. This setback didn’t dash her hopes, instead Zahra was beyond determined to prove to her parents and her friends back home that she could ‘be somebody’ and make up for her poor impulsive decisions.
Zahra wanted to be famous, she craved it, and while she never could quite make a name for herself, she enjoyed the highs of her career attempts while they lasted. Fans were loyal but not many, and so were the gigs. Overtime she had to supplement her income by picking up odd jobs with flexible work hours. Alas life in New York was nowhere near glamours or easy on her pockets. Zahra started to consider moving back home to Santa Monica. Unfortunately, trouble arose when Zuberi went missing in August 2018.
Over the years they became bonded by the risks they took, though Zahra was unaware of what her brother had really been up to with his time. She did find out about his drug habit, and agreed to keep it from their parents once he sought help. With the help of a non-profit Zahra got him into a rehab program and she moved him into her apartment so she could keep a closer eye on him, and for a while it was working. Until one day she came home to find her apartment stripped bare– electronics, appliances, jewelry, and basically anything of value was gone, including Zuberi. Zahra tried searching for him on her own for a day or two, only to come up with naught. That’s when she involved the authorities and her parents. Weeks turned into months of no news on her brother. By the seventh month, Zahra’s hope that he would be found alive began to wane. If she were honest with herself, it started way before that, she just knew something was horribly wrong from the moment she came home to find her apartment in upheaval.
Life in New York was never the same thereafter. Putting the pieces of her life back together after that became a challenge. She blamed herself for keeping Zuberi’s secrets and not taking a more active interest in his life. On several occasions she felt watched, and it may have just been paranoia but Zahra began feeling uncomfortable just being in the big city that once was the apple of her eye. Zahra’s return to Santa Monica seemed inevitable. Moving back home was the last thing on her agenda before Zuberi’s disappearance, and now it became her only option. Zahra needed familiarity and to be in a place where she felt safe. Before her return she began putting things in place. She may be returning without the fame and fortune she boasted about, but she refused to completely look like an unemployed failure. Zahra began seeking out jobs that catered to her Freelance Musician/Singer credentials. Thanks to her vocal versatility Zahra also takes projects outside of singing gigs which may not come frequently, such as song-writing, hosting parties, voice-overs, jingles, and the like. Those avenues were find, but she needed a steady source of income. Two months with no luck she was about to cave when a call for an interview at a radio station came in. KCRW, one of Santa Monica’s popular stations offered a position for hosting a segment. It’s not what she initially had in mind, but it would have to do– Santa Monica, here she comes!

CHARACTER INFORMATION
name: Enrique Aguilar gender/pro-nouns: Male & he/him date of birth: 24th June, 1992 place of birth: Santa Monica, California current residence: Pico Boulevard occupation: Paramedic faceclaim: Tommy Martinez character quote: “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.” trigger warnings: mentions of abuse
BIOGRAPHY
Born in the summer of 1992, Enrique Aguilar arrived with his designated partner in crime; Eduardo. His brother was technically the older of two— arriving just shy of 4 minutes apart. In Twinology 101, this gave Eduardo the power to step into the role of protector. Luckily for the twin boys they already had their older brother, Mateo, who was beyond thrilled to finally have some company, even if he was already 15 years old. As happy as Mateo was for his brothers’ arrival, it didn’t make the Aguilar home situation any better. Much to …. chagrin his brothers fell prey to a horrid upbringing, despite his attempts to shield them from the worst of it. Clearly, the odds were never in Mateo, Enrique’s and Eduardo’s favour.
Growing up proved to be more of an obstacle course than anything. They jumped through hoops and over hurdles to please parents who were out of their element when it came to properly raising the three boys. Perhaps Eliana and Roberto saw the twins as their punishment. The twins were an ‘accident’, unplanned– and they were constantly reminded of it. Eliana and Roberto were  stubborn high school sweethearts; they were warned against their match. Being the rebels that they were, the pair assumed that love would provide for them a happily ever after. Reality had other plans in store for the foolhardy couple; responsibility, bills, jobs to pay those bills— which if they hadn’t stopped at a high school education would be beyond minimum wage. These factors jeopardized their not-so-happy home. And pretty soon they turned against each other; becoming vicious and inattentive to the children helplessly stuck in the middle.
Eliana took to a revolving door method of parenting where she came and left as she pleased. The only one lapping up her disappearing act was a then naïve Enrique. To him his mother returning was like Christmas morning because she always came bearing gifts,–albeit tacky ones– and most importantly it brought along an unspoken truce between Eliana and Roberto. Which for the boys meant the disappearance of drunk and perpetually angry Roberto who took to out his frustration on his sons. Alas, all good things came to an end when Eliana high-tailed it out of Santa Monica again. Over the years she did this grave injustice without qualms, until she simply stopped showing up. The last time the boys ever saw her they were 13 years old. The hardest hit with this news was Enrique, who unlike Eduardo and Mateo hadn’t wised up to her ploys, he kept hoping that she would return to save them. When those hopes were eventually crushed, something dark within Enrique’s heart was born.
Being the edgier of the twins, Enrique was the instigator of most of their nefarious actions. All-round menace to society was a title he embraced well, after-all to Enrique there was no light at the end of the tunnel. He kept sailing by through life, which was a waste considering his academic performance at school. Enrique had a remarkable aptitude for an array of skills, yet his ambition severely lacked. In need of some direction, his oldest brother Mateo and an unlikely source provided this. At the time Enrique’s girlfriend’s father pushed him towards an opportunity intended to straighten out the wayward teen. Thus at the age of eighteen Enrique enlisted in the Marine Corps.
At the beginning of his eight years in the Marines, Enrique struggled with his own demons and his lack of respect for authority figures. He almost didn’t make it past the intense training boot-camp, but the naysayers is actually what motivated him in the long run. He learned to be a part of a team with men and women who he could entrust with his life and vice versa. He finally found purpose and a unique family within which he blossomed. Enrique surprised even himself when he earned rank of Corporal. His journey had not been easy, but it was very rewarding; Enrique traveled and took advantage of several training opportunities while serving, such as the EMT-B program. He discovered his love for the fast paced nature of the job and decided to pursue it as a career. Enrique went on to EMT-I program after completion of the basic level. At 26 years old he separated from the Marines with an honorable discharge, having fulfilled his contract requirements. Finding a job was easy because he had a sense of what he wished to attain. Enrique took the final step and has recently earned his National Paramedic Certification.
Like many veterans he did not escape serving emotionally unscathed. Enrique’s deployments brought with it the action that put the intensive training to the test, but he also got to see the most dismal sides of the world, namely poverty and suffering. He went into the Marines an unruly runt, and became a man. Formerly aggressive, impish and free-wheeling by nature, a younger Enrique fancied calling himself a daredevil. He believed that rules are meant to be broken because consequences were not even part of his thought process. He did what he want, when he wanted– things had to happen on his terms or not at all. Enrique’s fearlessness and unpredictable nature were a match made in heaven for his penchant of vigilante justice. All he had to do was hear about someone being wronged, and he’d take matters into his own hands. Which often meant physical altercations fueled by his quick to anger temperament. Obviously this mentality didn’t cut it in the Marine Corps. Relinquishing control to others was rare for him, because he would revert to that hurt helpless place he resided in during his childhood. But once he realized that he wasn’t alone, Enrique let his walls down and made some of the best relationships within his company.

“did you know a whale shark’s spot pattern is as unique as a fingerprint?” maggie asked the person nearest to her, blue eyes looking up from the journal in front of her on the bar countertop. she had a habit of bringing her work with her when she decided to stop in for a drink before heading home. and besides, she only had a page or so left to finish reading anyway. “sorry for sounding and looking like a big nerd, i can’t help it. it’s part of my identity at this point.”

“You should know by now that I absolutely adore your nerdiness.” Folasade grinned. There was no doubt that their friendship had blossomed into one she cherished. They shared a love for the ocean, and with Maggie’s expertise in the area, Folasade knew a lot more about the creatures that inhabit it more than the average person. “Your random facts keep me on my toes, and also have definitely preparing me for game show trivia.”
