M is for Moments
M is for Moments. As I finish up this miniseries regarding #AutismAwareness, remember to take time for yourself, too. #self-care
Today’s #autismawareness moment is brought to you by the letter “M”.
M is for Moments.
Autism can enhance the appreciation of moments.
Moments of total win such as our loved one on the Spectrum trying a new-to-them food item. Doesn’t matter if they like it or not; that they try it is wonderful.
Moments of discouragement such as when there is an incident with school or another caregiver that…

S stands for....Surprise!
S stands for....Surprise in today's #AutismAwareness Moment. Hint: I'm not a fan of surprises...
Our #AutismAwareness moment today is brought to you by the letter “S”.
I considered having that stand for self-control, serenity, superhero…
But in the end, I decided on SURPRISE.

I is for Imagination
#Autism demands fluidity. As we expand #AutismAwareness, we see how this requires imagination.
Today’s #AutisMoment is brought to you by the letter “I”.
Now, there were a lot of ways I could have hit this one, but I decided to be literal. “I” is for imagination. The Merriam-Webster online dictionary has more than one definition for this word, so I’m using this one:
2. creative ability ability to confront and deal with a problem the thinking or active mindMerriam-Webster online…

Yes, really! a u T i s m is Transformative.
The definition of transformative in the Merriam-Webster dictionary says it’s “causing or able to cause an important and lasting change in someone or something”.
Autism definitely causes important and lasting changes. In our family, Daniel was born on the Spectrum, though I didn’t know it for years. In other…

U is for Ubiquitous
U is for Ubiquitous. My look at #Autism during
#AutismAwarenessMonth
Today, remember, I’m tackling “U”. U is for “ubiquitous”, meaning “often observed or encountered” according to Merriam-Webster. The ramifications of #Autism in the life of an Autism Family are, indeed, ubiquitous. (GIF is from TENOR)
Every person on the Autism Spectrum will experience it differently, as will each family. But they will encounter the ramifications of the disorder frequently. In…

Summer's Music
Summer’s Music
Written in appreciation for Tennessee and family, SUMMER’S MUSIC is a story about coming home.
Tuesday Tennant, country music sensation, is called back home to Cookeville, Tennessee with melancholy news: Her father has just had a heart attack. She returns without hesitation, prepared not only to help her mother, but also to handle her aging parents’ concerns about her spiritual life – or lack…

The Slogging Continues
Sometimes, a character will surprise you.
Now, for me, it’s rarely a main character that does that. THOSE people, I know quite well. It’s the secondaries that surprise me, sometimes. The office secretary. The aide de camp. The best friend. The doorman. This kind of character, created to fulfill the need for conversation, exposition, whatever. This kind of character who, somehow, makes me hear them with a voice of their own.
They are so fun.
Working on a general factotum character right now who was supposed to just be stuffy and a bit socially rigid. I discovered, though, that he’s actually mostly amused at the trappings of the societally rigid and this . . . this works for me.
Writing can be the most fun. :)
