Daily writing promptHow are you creative?View all responses
I never consciously imagined myself to be a creative human being. Mostly, creativity comes and goes of its own accord. The creative juices keep flowing outside my control.
I composed a short story in 6th grade and got complimented by my teacher for it. The plot was about a hijacked plane and this female protagonist (me, obviously)…

Entry to college meant entry to a realm of dreams and mountains- which continues to define my life to this day. Read to know more!
Daily writing promptTell us about your first day at something — school, work, as a parent, etc. View all responses
There I was, sneaking inside the university gates like a little mouse. With all my emotions huddled together inside my tiny heart, I primed myself to face the music. Little did I know then that besides history books, mountains were also calling out to me.
It was my first day of…

From Cartoon to Reality
My adventurous soul is alive greatly due to the inspiring stories of Samurai Jack and other cartoons.
Daily writing promptWhat’s your favorite cartoon?View all responses
Have you ever had to choose among an assortment of candies, each no less delicious than the rest? It feels precisely like that when I am asked to pick a favorite cartoon from my childhood.
Back in my teenage years, school was dull and tiring; the teachers were half-asleep and a dreamy atmosphere pervaded the classrooms. I…

Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, February 2023
All my life, I have hoped to change and get rid of only one thing- my stutter. Having a speech disorder entails immense challenges- those that I cannot talk about enough to fit into one blog post. Right from my toddler days when I first picked up the habit from my…

Dress Equals Comfort.
Lesson from the outdoors: dressing comfortably is living comfortably.
Ever wondered how things changed since the first day you entered primary school? Just as my personality has evolved since the olden days, I would like to believe I have also undergone a certain dress evolution.
Before, my dress routine was pretty much fixed by others; I had a school uniform, and my mother carefully chose my wardrobe, right up till high school. She usually picked the most…

Read to know my experience in Korzok, a tough yet beautiful village in Ladakh!
Imagine driving through a sprawling, cold desert: rocky knolls and dusty land stretching as far as your vision can reach. Then you suddenly catch sight of a village, almost invisible as it blends into the landscape. What makes it stand out are the vast lake and the towering snow-capped mountains flanking it. You can be sure that you have reached Korzok, the highest village in Ladakh, standing at…

Mesmerizing Beats
The view left our mouths gaping when we drove up to Kalpa around 10 AM. The Kinner Kailash mountain range beamed majestically in the morning sun, and the broad stretches of snow glimmered against the bright blue sky. We stepped out of the car, stood, and just breathed, letting the overflowing beauty dazzle our eyes. In the distance, the deep baritone sounds of gongs from the Buddhist monastery…

Down The Sweet Alley
While walking down the streets of Shimla, you see two types of thoroughfares. One comprises the paved lanes of Mall Road, lined by branded stores and restaurants, leading up to the Church. Walking through this area takes us back decades and across continents, being sprinkled with European historical features. Secondly, there are the lower markets of Shimla. They are crowded chiefly with locals,…

Muddy Road To Kufri
It was a clear and sunny day in mid-January. The sapphire blue sky looked beautiful and drew us outside from the cold interiors of our friend’s flat. The soothing sunlight kissed our cheeks and convinced us to assume a touristy attitude for the day. We got dressed and headed down from Mall Road to the Lakkar Bazar Bus Stand in Shimla. We had chosen our excursion spot for the day- Kufri.
Morning…

Memories of Partition in Shimla
The temperature had dropped over the past few days. It was early January, and people were awaiting the first snowfall of the year. We made our way down the steep roads of Jakhu Hill and noticed the grey clouds hovering over Shimla. The shivering cold and grave atmosphere almost harkened back 78 years into the past, when Shimla was the seat of a fateful decision for the partition that took a toll…

Frosted Morning
My eyes opened to the light flooding into the room. The morning glow shone through the curtains. I clutched at the edges of the woollen blanket, debating with myself whether to get out or not. Finally the call of nature convinced me, and I crawled out from under the covers. I tiptoed to the washroom while the cold crept up my legs and arms. I rubbed my sleepy eyes as I walked to a window and…

This handsome shephard dog with golden brown eyes and a fluffy tail came to my rescue. After my trek mate helped me cross a very scary glacial stream, this fur ball ran up to me while I sat all jittery and frightened. As if on cue he licked my face and hands, and wiped off the terror from my face. After a few pats and cuddles he ran off, as though he'd finished an important task. #himachalpradesh #himalayantrekking #hamptapasstrek #hamptapass #himalayandog #dogsofinstagram #dogslover #himachaldiaries #trekkinglife #trekkingindia #himalayas (at Hampta Pass Trek) https://www.instagram.com/p/CfmDuopPer1/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Steaming Curls
Strong and bright yellow curls of sunlight poured through the window panes. The room had lit up, and the warm sunshine and sapphire blue sky outside were tempting. I had just sat up on the thick bed sheets. The chills had been running through me all night, and did not leave me alone then. I tried to curl up under the sheets again, but thoughts of a delicious dish jolted me right back…

Parched in the Sun
Parched in the Sun
View of Ranthambhore National Park from the Fort.
The jeep dropped us off at the fort, and we came out in the scorching heat. I adjusted my tinted glasses and squinted in the bright light. We ascended the wide, lime-plastered stone stairway, glancing at clusters of langurs sheltering from the sun. The dry afternoon sun drilled holes into every wet pore of the fort walls and our bare skin. Over…
