you explained the infinite
renga | complete, oneshot | 14.2k words
“I think I understand what’s going on.”
Well. . . hopefully not, but Reki figured that would save him a lot of time explaining. And if she did know, then she didn’t seem as upset as he had anticipated, which was definitely a plus.
She continued. “I know you’ve been going out every night on dates—”
Dates?
“—with Langa—”
With Langa?
Or, Reki’s mother makes an assumption about her son’s relationship status that she probably shouldn’t and everything spirals.
fake dating/misunderstandings, aka one of my absolute favorite tropes. the pining and intimacy in this fic is just. absolute god tier.

Taking The Long Way
renga | complete, oneshot | 1.6k words
Why couldn’t he have fallen for someone who could take a hint? A better question, how and why had he fallen so hard that he was this irritated by something so ridiculous, fallen so hard that Langa’s bare palm had become some kind of white whale to him?
This is just a silly fic about Reki pining so hard that he resents the gloves Langa wears to skate because they’re in the way when they find excuses to hold hands.
short but super cute fic. all about that Hand Intimacy TM we all go crazy for. never thought i’d buy into the hype of a bare wrist and hand holding 2005-movie-adaptation-of-pride-and-prejudice-style, but here we are

thanks to some precipitation, california poppies are in bloom
renga | complete, oneshot | 5.1k words
His classmate visited the doctor, swallowed a bitter pill and chased it with juice. Before he went to bed, before something in his chest burned, he opened his journal and taped the note in; crossed out Reki’s name. “This is important,” he wrote below the drawing. Underlined it.
He’ll never remember who drew this, but maybe he’ll remember his first lost, impossible love. He slept peacefully that night, and didn't dream of wild red hair and kind eyes.
People keep getting Hanahaki for Reki; it's becoming a problem, even before he starts coughing up petals.
not so much renga-centric as it is reki-centric, but a really nice read. lovely concept overall. no doubt reki would be a heartthrob

Unfolding
renga | incomplete | 6.3k+ words
“Do you ever just feel totally lost?” Langa asked.
“Oh, yeah.” Reki laughed. “All the time.”
Picking up where the series leaves off, Langa and Reki try to navigate the early phases of adulthood together. They soon learn that parents and teachers can only prepare you so much, and just like learning to skate, there are a lot of hard falls before you find your way through.
A story about growing up, finding your happiness, and loving your best friend no matter what.
super promising so far. excellent characterization and does really well capturing the “well what the fuck do we do now” stage of youth. can’t wait to read more

there’s a hole in my soul (can you fill it?)
renga | incomplete | 32.4k+ words
Snowboarding feels bleak, meaningless and it’s the last thing Langa wants to think about now.
Everything changes, however, when Reki enters his cold world and Langa, in spite of himself, offers to teach him how to snowboard.
(Or, Langa is a pro-snowboarder, who’s dealing with grief, and Reki has just moved to Canada, carrying deep homesickness with himself. Together, they help each other heal their wounds.)
nice role reversal au, and i love the character studies and exploration of grief/living with loss. great so far, can’t wait to read more

I've Got A Piece of Your Heart (But I Want the Whole Damn Thing)
renga | complete, multi chapter | 29.9k words
“Sure?” Langa doesn’t like the way Reki is looking at him without meeting his gaze. “Of course I’ll help you, Reki. What’s up?”
It takes a long second for Reki to answer. When he finally does, Langa feels the world slow to a stop around them. “Well, the thing is... my soulmate is always writing on their arm. But they’re always writing in English, so I don’t know what it says. I was hoping you might translate it for me?”
Reki asks Langa to translate the English writing of his soulmate and is left to wonder why, exactly, Langa turns so incredibly red as he does exactly that.
(The soulmate au nobody asked me for)
very very nice soulmate au. classic mutual-pining-but-they-think-it’s-unreciprocated-and-they-can’t-be-together trope. also that sweet sweet angst sometimes

the momentary space we call now
renga | complete, multi chapter | 21.8k words
Ghosts are abstract things; leftover memories and what-could-have-beens.
Langa is certain that Reki can’t be one of them.
(or; the park beside the sea is haunted. it takes Langa two weeks of skateboarding lessons to realise this.)
a masterpiece. really amazing study of dealing with grief/loss and the nature of ghosts. also wonderful prose. would die for this fic

to build a home
renga | incomplete | 30.5k+ words
The king, Langa’s father, died a year ago. It makes sense to form alliances. It makes sense to strengthen those alliances with marriage. Maybe it’s wrong for Langa to be so apathetic about his own wedding, but he can’t find it in himself to care.
Reki is trying his hardest to be the prince his country deserves, to be the heir his mother can rely on. It’s difficult, however, when everything he does is so far from good enough. He’s also getting married, which is kind of a big deal. He can’t wait to meet the guy.
really neat worldbuilding and character studies! i love this trope so much and i’m a sucker for any royalty au. excited to see where this goes

breath fogged up the glass
renga | incomplete | 12.6k+ words
COVID-19. S is closed. Langa is restless. Reki takes him to his family’s ski chalet in Nagano. Reki doesn’t like people knowing that his family is loaded, but these are extenuating circumstances.
very nice post-canon. kind of coming of age? very knowledgeable about snowboarding and developed in terms of what reki/langa are doing in the future. excited to see where this goes

shining blue under the light of the moon
renga | complete, oneshot | 1.1k words
He is going to die. He is going to die right here on a bed in Okinawa and Langa would probably be none the wiser. Does he know what he’s doing to Reki? Probably not. Honestly, it just makes it all the sweeter. Sweet, oblivious, blunt Langa.
literally just reki waxing poetic about langa while they’re cuddling in bed. lots of yearning, but that’s what we’re here for

not temporary to me
renga | complete, series | 16.3k words
definitely a level-headed reaction
“Oh shit,” Reki said, stumbling. “Play along.”
“What—” Before Langa could finish asking, Reki had leaned into his side and grabbed his hand, laughing like they’d been having a completely different conversation.
In which Langa and Reki run into Reki's ex, Reki asks Langa to pretend they're together, and Langa has some realizations.
familiarity with the concept
Being into Langa was simultaneously super easy and super frustrating. On the one hand, apparently, there was absolutely no chance that Langa would ever notice. On the other hand, there was absolutely no chance that Langa would ever notice.
In most circumstances where Reki liked someone, he fluctuated between being absolutely horrified they’d find out and desperately wanting to tell them.
Somehow, not at all an issue with Langa, because it absolutely did not matter what Reki did or said. Like, not even a little. Langa did not take hints.
In which Reki attempts to ask out the cute new guy and instead ends up falling in love with his best friend.
two of my favorite tropes (fake dating and mutual pining) in one. also, oblivious langa, for a change! lovely characterization and story overall

renga | incomplete | 88.7k+ words
Reki is insecure about his lack of kissing experience. Langa just wants to help him feel like he's good enough, even if teaching Reki to kiss means breaking his own heart.
(yet another practice kissing au)
langa teaches reki to kiss in return for reki teaching him skateboarding. super duper fluffy. literally all the gay pining and yearning you could want. would actually die for this fic

i own the space besides you
renga | complete, one shot | 4.2k words
Reki turns over. Finds that Langa is watching him very seriously, those lovely eyes blue, blue, blue. He looks so handsome like this: solemn and thoughtful. His features are as fine as jade. “Don’t you already like someone,” he tries, desperate.
Langa’s gaze remains resolute. “I do.”
“Then tell me,” Reki says. “Tell me about him.”
The expression on Langa's face goes soft.
langa gets a confession and reki jumps in to become his fake boyfriend to save him, except everyone already thinks they’re dating. super cute and the confession is adorable

renga | complete, one shot | 6.7k words
Reki never seems to sleep for more than two hours at a time and Langa’s juggling the simultaneous annoyance and affection he feels when his best friend spams his instagram DMs at three in the morning.
Meanwhile, Miya is simply fed up.
~
“Langa?”
This time a breath of frustration does leave his mouth.
“What?”
“I’m still cold.” Reki pauses. “And the floor is hard.”
Langa is so tired he would do anything to get Reki to be quiet. So he says, in English, “For the love of God,” and then, in Japanese, “Reki, come sleep up here.”
reki is constantly sleep-deprived but can only sleep when cuddling with langa. very soft and sweet

you laugh and the world tilts sideways
renga | complete, one shot | 1.3k words
Reki’s laugh is a punch to the gut.
It’s so human, breathless and creaky around the edges, hiccuping, filled with so much sincere delight. His eyes crinkle up, or completely flutter shut with the way his whole face blooms with it.
Langa is in love with Reki's laugh, the rest of him too, and he's kind of a mess about it. This is all just Langa Being A Mess, really.
langa is whipped for reki’s laugh, what more can i say

he was a skater boy, he said—no, you know what, no, we're not calling it that
renga | complete, multi-chapter | 8.2k words
Everyone knows Reki and Langa are dating. Everyone except Reki, that is.
“Is it someone from class?”
Langa pushes his board back and forth, the little rumble of the tires filling the late afternoon quiet between them as he takes a deep, audible breath, looks directly at Reki, and nods. “Yes.”
And that’s a surprise. Reki tries not to let it show. “Have you guys been on any dates?”
“Yeah. I mean, I thought they were dates.”
That’s… kind of sweet. Sweet in the way that feels like it's going to make Reki sick. “How have you even had time for that?” he mutters. “You spend all your time with me.”
lovely misunderstandings and hilarious almost-fake-dating-au fic. love the pining idiots trope—this is one of my favorite sk8 fics

melancholy dreaming
renga | complete, one-shot | 2.4k words
“What are you doing?”
Reki has his forehead pressed against the glass, face scrunched as he inspects the inside of the vending machine. The soft white light inside shines upon his face at an unflattering angle.
“I swear this one works normally,” Reki dismisses Langa with a wave. His focus remains on the machine, his scrawny frame leaning unnaturally onto it. (or: Langa and Reki share a melon soda, and maybe a thing or two about dreams.)
very sweet, lots of pining, and very atmospheric and poetic prose
