AN: I realize this is the second time I've called Chris "PB" w/o explaining. It's short for Peanut Butter. I can explain/it'll become obvious why later...maybe?

CHRISTOPHER: Hi Gan-Gan; Grandpop Carlton.

NORA: Tea?

CHRISTOPHER: No, thank you.

NORA: Good. Then, we can jump right in. Carlton.

CARLTON: I won't sweeten this for you, PB. We believe this book set for publishing could harm the family, and we're doing the little we can to shield us from potential damages.

CHRISTOPHER: Why is this book a bigger threat than any others?

CARLTON: We've read the foreword and a few manuscript chapters. Some facts and historical misinterpretations could be used as political leverage for the Abolitionist Front* and others. And frankly, with the state of the world, we don't want any unplanned risks or scandals. So here we are…

CARLTON: We'll capitalize on your blossoming popularity, increasing your appearances and patronages. You'll shake hands with celebrities, support the right causes, and say the right things. 

CARLTON: We'll remind the people how beloved their Queen is while positioning you as the family's future. You'll have to do more soft diplomacy, meetings with Weily, and things like the R4.

CARLTON: We’ll dwarf any press and media the book receives. If he's on The Last Show Tonight, we're at a gala full decorations. If he's at a book signing, we are cutting a ribbon. We'll dominate the news cycle, leaving them arguing about protocol and our wardrobe.

CARLTON: And finally, when they're thoroughly enamored and waiting for us and the book, if they still care, we'll tease them with your Princely story's conclusion…a wedding.

CHRISTOPHER: A wedding?

NORA: A wedding.

AN: For context, Lowie is Dr. Bart Eane's department head and the person urging him to publish and publish quickly. Meredith knows Lowie all too well, as she's an accomplished and popular professor who has already published three books, including the two seen in this scene. Like her husband, Meredith studies history (undergrad), but her specialty is anthropology, where she focuses on early Vernick, specifically children's role in developing society.

TRANSCRIPT BELOW:

Meredith: ...you won't convince me that's his best book! (Laughs)

Dr. Eane: What?! Honey, Lord of the Moths is a masterpiece, and that's why he's my favorite writer. (Laughs)

Dr. Eane: Then again, we'll have to agree to disagree. (Laughs) He's still my favorite writer.

Meredith: Excuse me! I thought I was.

Dr. Eane: Fine. He's my second favorite writer. You, of course, are my first.

Meredith: And soon, the country will see why you're mine.

Dr. Eane: Ahh, you're assuming Lowie's damn edits will stop.

Meredith: Lowie is tough and knows his shit, Bart. Trust him, but not more than your gut or research.

Dr. Eane: They're not worried about my research or my writing.

Meredith: Then what's the issue?

Dr. Eane: They are.

Best Song to Accompany Montage For the night, Chris abandoned everything in the royal imagination, leaving his friends and their bubble's safety, dismissing all but one of his security detail, David, who, after 11 years of covering The Family, knew how to fade into the background, being close enough to assist yet far enough for Drew to feel at ease. Chris and Drew seemed aware of their limited time in this suspended space free of paparazzi and royal protocol. The strangers crammed every topic they could into their 10 hours together. Drew pushed Chris in ways his family never cared to, and friends would consider déclassé. Did he have opinions? Sure. But who really cared? Was he allowed to share them anyway? Chris was the person standing next to him. It was, in a lot of ways, transformational for both of them. They parted ways exactly 30 mins after sunrise. Drew hopped on the metro, wondering less about Chris and more about the equipment he left behind. Chris patiently waited for David, who was pulling up, prepared to take him wherever he decided.

AN: I wasn't sure if I'd keep this scene -- kept questioning what it does for the pace/story progression. I largely decided to keep it for a few reasons:

To show Chris and Jessica's closeness/world integration. I think that's important obviously for the story but also the contrast in how something like monarchy views relationships and sex vs the people involved. Not sure if I'd call it a modern take or just reality.

Chris never seems sure about N E THING ever!

Now matter how "down-to-earth" I'd like to make them, they still exist in a world of pretentiousness and snobbery, see opening scenes.

AN: we're going to ignore the typo on the last photo. This is also the first time we meet the Duke and Duchess of Henford, Christopher's parents, and his long-time best friend, Benjamin. Even without sharing the meeting, I thought it was cool and important to get multiple responses and perspectives around the decisions made. We'll learn more later in another post., I also am proud visually of how some of these came out. I am still experimenting and learning Photoshop, so a new reshade is also coming.

Cordelia: He's not us; this is much more than stepping up. We weren't ready, and it's taken the Watcher's strength to hold us together.

Cordelia: I have no doubt of my son's strength, but this Family and this system do not get to test it. Not again, not this soon.

Edward: Give him time. He'll see it's best for the Family and the country.

AN: Starting and creating this story has been a labor of laugh but, I'm so happy to finally start sharing the story of the Vernick Royal family. A country created by my friend (@vernicksims), who has allowed be to borrow, build, and expand his country. Liam: We're back for my favorite segment, The Royal Round Up! Tonight, we focus on The Family'sFamily's relevance with our special guests, Culture Professor Dr. Lizzy Eane and self-proclaimed public intellectual Maryjane Rightway. Ladies, the top question from viewers was, ""what is the royal family's role?"" -- take it away.

Dr. Eane: Where to begin--the monarchy has passed its expiration date, and it knows it. The rising taxpayer costs, the residences, in exchange for what?

Maryjane: In exchange for culture and history, Lizzy. As long as our country exists, our oldest and most remembered founding family remains relevant... it'sit's obvious.

Christopher: Can we please watch anything else? I'mI'm sure this show rots the brain (laughs).

Jessica: No can do! It'sIt's my Guilty pleasure, and he says nice things usually...

Christopher: About you!

Jessica: Exactly! (Laughs) Now be quiet! The royal segment is starting. ''

Liam: Many voters and viewers agree with Ms. Rightway, believing the monarchy serves as a national but powerless symbol.

Dr. Eane: And that, Liam, makes them more dangerous. The idea that they are powerless is false, dangerous, and dense. It'sIt's people'speople's belief in the institution that empowers them. The crown is merely a tribute on our and the church'schurch's behalf. And the latter lacks my consent as well.

Maryjane: (Laughs) We can debate this all night. But, if we did, it's because of King Christopher'sChristopher's 1886 decree, which granted citizens and media the right to critique The Crown. The same king went on to found our finest colleges, one of which you are employed. Again, they're irrelevant?

Maryjane: Dr. Eane, I'mI'm shocked to hear you pander to the younger crowd. They don't have to look like us; that's the point! A family of 17 cannot represent a country of nearly 200 million.

Dr. Eane: Sure...but after how long? You speak as if--

Liam: Sorry to cut you off, but that's all for the Royal Roundup. We'llWe'll have more with Dr. Eane and Ms. Rightway after the break.

Christopher: I hate that you like this show.

Jessica: And I hate that you're ruining my Sunday night. Some of us have real jobs, ya know?

useful/fun character development questions for couples

there are a lot of “otp questions” lists out there but I just wanted to make a list that was specifically helpful for writers, especially for working out the technical stuff of conveying Romantic Love. so, here ya go, stuff to answer for each character

What, specifically, was the catalyst for their physical attraction (if applicable) to the other character? In other words, what in particular had them like “Oh, they’re...hot...”

Does this change over time? What things do they find “hot” about their partner after they’ve been together for some time, and have had more time to, well, notice and appreciate?

By contrast, what was the moment that first made their ~heart~ Soft for the other person? Not necessarily a conscious realization of “I love this person,” but a moment that had them like “Oh...I adore them...”

Does this change over time? What will always reliably make them melt with how much they adore the other character?

How do they consciously realize that they like the other character? Does it take them a while?

How do they react to the realization that they like the other character? Is it an “oh my god I’m never going to think about this again” thing, or are they pretty comfortable with it?

Do they (or would they) pursue the other character’s affection, and if so, how? Do they tell the other character how they feel? Try to earn their admiration? Woo them with romantic gestures? Flirt with them, skillfully or otherwise?

What do they think about romantic love? Do they have baggage surrounding it? Do they idealize it? Is it an object of longing and wanting, or were they really not thinking about it until they started falling for the other character? What are their expectations like?

What do they think about commitment? Is a long-term partnership the goal? Are they thinking about building a life with their partner, or are they focused on the present?

What scares them about entering a relationship?

What fears, past traumas, etc. would be hardest for them to talk about with their partner?

How much independence do they prefer in a relationship—do they want to share their lives as much as possible with their partner, or do they prefer to mostly do their own thing and let their partner do their own thing?

What is their go-to for making a partner feel loved?

What makes them feel loved? Would they build up the courage to ask for it?

What, for them, constitutes a level of intimacy that they would only rarely share with someone? This can be physical, emotional, etc.

If they had the ability to just spend free time with their partner, what would they do? Would they go out or stay inside?

Under what circumstances would they want to be left alone by their partner?

They’re going through something incredibly difficult—perhaps they’re very sick, have lost a loved one, or have gone through a traumatic event. Do they ask for or accept support and care from their partner, or try to isolate themselves?

Are they okay with public displays of affection? Do they like them?

When would they say “I love you?” Do they say it first? Do they say it often, or is it reserved for special moments?

If sex is something that would be part of a relationship for them, do both or either of them have prior experiences? If not, how do they feel about it?

What does sex mean for them? Socially, religiously, what attitudes are they bringing with them? Is “virginity” something they care about? Do they want sexual experiences to occur within a certain “level” of relationship, or does that not really matter so much to them?

How comfortable are they talking about, and openly communicating during, sex?

What would their partner do that would really turn them on, perhaps unintentionally?

They accidentally hurt or upset their partner. What happened? How do they respond? What do they do to make their partner feel better?

They have an argument with their partner—what is it about? Do things stay respectful, or is there some shouting and accusing going on?

They have to apologize to their partner. Is this difficult for them? How do they approach it?

How do they feel about the prospect of parenthood? Do they plan on it? How would they react if they suddenly found out they were going to be a parent?

What compromises are they making in their relationship?

What completely petty topic (music taste, favorite food) do they find themselves completely at odds with their partner about?

What little thing do they find incredibly (though harmlessly) annoying about their partner?

How do their friends react to finding out they’re a couple? Do they have lots of mutual friends? Did their friends know, perhaps before they themselves did?

Under what circumstances would they feel jealous?

Under what circumstances would they feel protective?

Would they get a pet? What kind? Who brings up the idea, and who takes a little longer to convince?
