I just watched Over the Moon, and I thought it was really cute. I wouldn’t call it perfect, but I would really recommend it!

Over The Moon was like “do you want to cry uncontrollably at 6pm while sitting at your desk in your pjs?” and then didn’t wait for an answer.

Something else I liked about ‘Over the Moon,’ from a writing standpoint, is that they never actually say which backstory of Chang'e and Houyi is “the right one.”

Fei Fei grew up hearing that Chang'e took the immortality pills by mistake, one of her aunties and Chin believe she selfishly took both pills for herself and only realized her mistake later, one of the other aunties doesn’t really say which version she believes but is caught up in the drama and tragedy of it all…

Chang'e doesn’t have just a one-note personality when we meet her; she has moments of kindness and moments of selfishness.

When Chin says that he heard she took both pills out of selfishness, she never confirms or denies it.

The “real story” never gets brought up.

And I think that’s a really good way to get around the fact that the myth has many different variations, with different degrees of sympathy for Chang'e.
