I haven't been on here much this year. Life has been busy. I've read a lot of books this year (I'm on #68). I wrote a lot of poetry and started a poetry Instagram account that somehow amassed almost 900 followers. Which is, you know, kinda crazy to me. I have a completed manuscript for a poetry book that I hope to self-publish next year. I've been working through a lot of grief and big feelings about life and motherhood with no village. It's been a weird but also interesting year and I can't believe that it's almost over... Idk how my baby is going to be two in April or how my oldest is, you know, a full on big kid now who can read?! Idkk. Time has been moving so quickly.
“how can people sit on a train and not notice each other? how can people resist the urge to connect somehow?…can people feel my eyes on them as I do theirs on me? do we all know that we’re here in this social prison system? why aren’t we more prepared to have more fun being human beings? will women ever outgrow the scars inflicted upon them by a world ruled by men? must my fantasies be stuck working overtime?…my hair looks like shit and i’m feeling embarrassed and ugly all-around.” oh jeff
i've read two sally rooney books and i really don't understand how she gets away with not putting " " in her dialogue. like you get used to it eventually but its confusing and honestly i have no idea how she gets away with it. like someone said, yeah it's fine, we'll publish it this way. idk!
the ones ive read are
normal people - i'd give it a 3/5. i wanted to like it and i did but i also found it very frustrating.
beautiful world, where are you - 4/5. this was the first of her work that i read and i really liked it despite the annoying lack of " " in dialouge
in this new year I want you to be alright. I hope you move out. I hope you have enough money to feel safe. I hope you abandon shame and forgive yourself. I hope you get enough sleep and some good news. I hope you laugh a lot and the heaviness of the world eases a bit. I wish you to be alright.
