[Andrew/Drew | he/they | Tennessee | not a minor | white] I like Pokemon a lot and sometimes I write about it (prompts are always welcome). Icon by prideful-poke-icons. Writing is under the tag "Andrew writes".
“tumblr the best social media in 2021” no. enough complacency. this site is abysmal. for the last two months desktop tag searches on my own blog returned absolutely nothing. a third of my followers are p0rnbots. to get my theme right I have to manually crop the header twelve times using guesswork and a prayer and then check how it looks in three different places. video posts take ten minutes to even show up. sometimes asks just disappear like it’s the 1800s and your carrier pigeon got eaten by a bobcat. the staff randomly posts cryptic distorted messages?? genuinely on any other site the userbase would RIOT here it’s like oh well guess i’ll spend an hour rewriting the 2 thousand words that got eaten by my drafts. there was a guy fieri arg what the hell was that about
what was remarkable about matilda was that it was her actual family that treated her like shit, not an orphanage or a step-parent or that she was adopted or anything like that. there was no reveal like miss honey is like “im your real mother” it was all about found family because her family was bullshit and that was just the way it was. it is so rare to see a biological family portrayed as people who don’t get their kids and don’t treat them right in kids media
(Gary anon) Heh, I wouldn't blame you. (The differences between it and the main anime is interesting: Such Ash catching Fearow and it being his main bird, Brock and Misty showing up on occasion rather than being glued to Ash the whole time, SCHOOL, Gary doesn't have cheerleaders or a chauffeur but travels by motorbike instead, the fact that he has a sister, and it all ends with Ash and Gary traveling together. But, I totally see why the risque stuff is distracting and a turn-off) I'm sure...
Yeah, I really just can’t deal with the risque stuff. Feels really skeevy to me in children’s media where the main characters are underage.
But putting that aside for a second, yeah, those are some interesting differences. Ash and Gary traveling together is honestly a very cute thought.
@musashi yeah, I kept thinking like “is this the end?” and then there was MORE and it was wild. The part at the end where you have to stand in the middle of a circle of torches and do a charged attack to quickly light them all was so satisfying.
Proud of myself for getting through the Shora Hah Shrine (Blue Flame) without any help whatsoever yesterday. It was a real pain in places but I still figured it out without even googling anything (though I used up like half my arrows in the process).
(Gary anon) It's hilarious how even after both parties mellowed out, Gary can still rile up Ash with no effort. Misty probably would have strangled Paul too. (Funnily enough, the "Electric Tale" manga did have Gary lose to Richie; though we don't get to really see it. Ash still fights Ritchie there, but "loses" in a different manner: He forfeits due to Charizard getting too violence and severely injuring its opponent. Instead of moping because of losing, Ash was wracked with guilt afterwards...)
(Part 2) (...Probably would've been preferred than what we got; I remember it being a HATED TR moment too)...Johto did a lot of things better than Kanto, but the fact that it DRAGGED, with filler that barely developed anyone but Ash and his Pokemon, I don't blame those who skip said episodes. (Again, also the result of storylines being dropped behind the scenes, like the infamous GS ball) Ah yeah, since we know the dates for Iris and Gary, the dub episodes should be out by September.
Yeah, love that about them. Some things never change.
Oh she absolutely would have. Paul would not have survived OS because Ash and Misty would’ve wrecked him with their own hands.
I’ve never read EToP and from what I’ve heard I don’t particularly want to, but I’ve got to say that’s one thing it did that I can vibe with. (Though regarding Ash’s Charizard getting so violent Ash had to forfeit, that’s DARK and I am very grateful that isn’t anime canon.)
Ash’s Indigo League loss was so unfair, it literally wasn’t his fault because (if I recall correctly) his Pokemon were already tired from fighting Team Rocket. Like, it absolutely would’ve been better to show he had a long way to go by having him get beaten in a fair fight.
Yeah, Johto has some beautiful animation and the VAs really seemed to hit their stride, but the pacing is so SLOW. I’m a person who can enjoy filler episodes, but I have my limits. (Yeah, the aborted arc with the GS ball and similar situations probably do have something to do with it.)
September, that’s about four months then. Not a problem, there’s a lot to keep me occupied in the meantime. Very excited to hear Gary’s obnoxious voice again.
reddit’s amitheasshole sub may be the most ineffective (if not hilariously entertaining) kind of peer judgement in the worst possible court of opinion BUT I do appreciate how “everyone sucks here” is an accepted conclusion to come to. I think we should apply that more, up to and perhaps including official courts of law
I’m gonna be real here, I take neurotypicals’ opinions on “weird” people far more seriously than I take their statements of support for me or for autistic people in general.
Like your opinions on furries (putting aside any sexual connotations) are HONESTLY a better litmus test of whether you are a safe person for me or any autistic people than your opinions on Five Year Old Boy Disease.
yeah yeah yeah mortifying ordeal of being known and all that but sometimes a friend mentions something about you that you didn’t think was noticeable and it feels like your heart is being cradled in their hands
Hey, it probably wasn't intentional but The Mitchells vs the Machines seriously feels like a great example of how neurodiversity runs in families and how it can look different even within the same family and lead to both understanding and frustrations
Like, I watched this and saw a low income family full of undiagnosed autism just trying to understand each other
And I took that personally (and maybe cried about it on and off through the whole movie)
Anyway, can't believe the Mitchells saved the world through the power of This Entire Family Is On The Autism Spectrum
Movies like this NEVER get greenlit. Studios are supposed to be pussies that are too afraid to make wholly original animated films that don’t piggyback on an existing IP or be an irreverent kid’s comedy.
The Mitchells vs. The Machines is a love letter to the animation medium itself. A passion project created BY artists FOR artists. Katie’s struggles as an 18-year-old aspiring creative was the call-out post of a lifetime. And when I saw those end credits that featured the crew’s family pics, I was touched beyond belief ‘cause that’s how you know this film wants its artists to be SEEN.
