Hiatus Announcement
[ Hello, everyone! I hope your summer has been fun and restful so far.
I've mentioned off and on this past year about getting married/planning a wedding, and that is finally happening in the next several weeks. My future husband and I are going to move in together, get married, go on our honeymoon, etc., and I want to make sure that I am putting in the time to all of that without worrying about tumblr.
So, starting at least by June 5, I will be on an extended hiatus.
I honestly have no idea when I'll return, but it would honestly, in my mind, not be for at least several months, if not permanently. If this is goodbye, and it's a hobby I end up not picking up again, I've thoroughly enjoyed writing, plotting, and talking with all of you. I've made some amazing friends here and I love you all! ]

Betelgeuse, Asteroid, Shooting Star!
space themed muse questions
Betelgeuse: Whatβs something you can never forget about?Β
"I mentioned the happy feelings when we went to go fight Giygas, though the other side of this was that I can't forget the feeling before and during that battle with it, either. Every time I think about that operation we had to endure in order to go into the Phase Distorter, the Cave of the Past... even looking at the Phase Distorter... it gives me this icy feeling down in my stomach and I get dizzy and can't think straight.
That tension is something that creeps up sometimes, especially after a nightmare, so unfortunately I can't forget that fear quite yet."
Asteroid: What does your dream life look like?Β
"Well... I'd like to help people somehow. I know I've been told I'd make an excellent engineer, but I think I'd like a career that I know really impacts others... So I would be doing that.
I'd also like to always be close with Ness, Paula, and Poo. And Tony, of course. And besides them... I'd like to have a family, I think. Even if I don't think I'd be the best parent, I know I wouldn't want to live alone. Oh, and I'd like a lot of pets."
Shooting Star: If you could bring back one thing, what would it be?Β
"I'm not certain... in terms of things, maybe the submarine I got to pilot? Though I don't know where I'd keep it. Perhaps... some more detailed records of when and where I was born, and who my family members are. I have no idea who my mother is, either... that information I really would like to know."

You might have known that EarthBound Beginnings' end credits theme, Eight Melodies, has official lyrics, but did you know that EarthBound's, Smiles and Tears (attached above), has lyrics too? Written in Ness's POV, I think theses lyrics are really sweet (and also reveals that A: he owns a guitar! And B: his shoes are canonically raggedy!). Give them a read under the cut and follow along! Credit to WikiBound for this one; it's the cleanest translation we got!
Grown-ups have done so much more stuff than me
There's many things that I still want to see
Now I take my backpack to the world
and fill it with memories
My favorite baseball cap rests on my head
My worn out sneakers, faded white and red
My own guitar pick, shiny and clear
Safe in my pocket, right here
Though sometimes I got sad and almost cried
You were right there with me, by my side
I knew we were friends to the core
But maybe it was something more
Together, we walked that road for so long
We laughed, we played, we got hurt, we grew strong
When taking short-cuts, and getting lost
I learned what Iβd known all along
That even if you canβt put faith in those
Who you meet, and lose, and love, and hug
Overall, you just can't give up
Believing in your friends
And just by being there, you've woken me
Just by being who youβd always be
Now I see, you helped me to know
The stronger, happier me
Because
Like a gentle breeze, through the grass and the pine trees
You always wore a smile
Now we, who shared our Smiles and Tears...
...I miss you...
We two are now far apart...

beinfriendsβ:
In the boyβs musings about what plants may remind him of his friend, Jeff threw out a few different suggestions: ferns, clovers, more warm weather-type plants.Β Jeff was in luck, then, as Tazmily was warm nearly all year-round.Β Abbey excitedly bounced on her heels, already preparing to let Jeff know the good news.Β They didnβt have clover, but they had ferns and lilacs, plus the poinsettias since Jeff seemed open to having them.Β They nodded and hummed at his associating poinsettias with winter and Christmas.
βThen thatβs perfect!β Abbey interjected, still overjoyed.
However, the conversation continued on to an unexpected place.Β When Jeff gets to the subject of Dr. Andonutsβs apartment, he admitted that he was not living with his father at all.Β Abbot and Abbey tilted their heads almost in perfect sync, curious.Β Why wouldnβt he live with his father?Β Abbot had seen the inside of the apartment, and while it was very junky, he didnβt think it was too bad to live in, certainly.Β He couldnβt imagine living in a time machine.Β Abbot had caught glimpses of the machine Dr. Andonuts was working on, and if Jeffβs was anything like that, then it was awfully cramped.
That did concern the two of them.Β What kind of father was Dr. Andonuts if he allowed his son to sleep out in the time machine instead of in a proper home?Β Something wasnβt right, but both knew it wasnβt their right to pry.Β But Abbot didnβt feel right just leaving it unaddressed entirely.Β He wouldnβt press for information.Β Abbot had hated it whenever people tried to pry into his own home life as a childβ and while he did his best not to project, he still felt a pang of sympathy when thinking about the whole thing.
Abbot and Abbey exchanged worried glances, but they tried not to look so nervous.Β Abbey nervously wrung her hands nonetheless, always wearing her heart on her sleeve, even when sheβd rather not.Β But Abbot kept himself together a bit more.Β Β βWell, thatβs a shame.Β Sorry ta hear that,β Abbot murmured, then smoothed it over by continuing,Β βbut hey, we do got some fernsΒ βnβ lilacs fer ya!Β You cin also look at someβa our other stuff, you might find some other plants ya like.Β We got gerberas, sunflowers, saplinβs, some marigolds, maybe some other stuffβ¦ if we knew how long you was stayinβ, we could see about plantinβ some seeds if ya have any requests.Β I collect seeds, so we got lots ta offer.β
Abbey fidgeted with her hands, shifting uneasily on her feet, as she appeared to be in thought.Β Β βIβm tryinβ ta think if there ainβt a place you cin stay.Β I donβ think itβs healthy ta stay in a small space like thatβ¦ oh, I hate ta assume, but I seen Dr. Aβs machine, and itβs awful cramped, ainβt it?β
βBad fer the back,β Abbot suggested lightheartedly.
βYes, oh, goodness!Β Huhβ¦βΒ Abbey paused to think a little more.Β Β βWell, the Yado ainβt a hotel no more, anβ I donβ think theyβve had a vacant apartment in a dawgβs age. Lessee,Β βcause Bud anβ Lou live there, Lisa anβ her kids, Donna part aβ the time, DCMCΒ βnβ Duster, plus Venus anβ Elmoreβ¦βΒ She counted out the groups on her fingers.Β Β βYep, thass everybody.Β Plus Jackieβs family anβ Sebastianβ¦β
βAinβt no way they got room,β Abbot concluded.
The two looked at each other again.Β If push came to shove, they wouldnβt mind extending an invitation to Jeff to stay with them for a while, if he was comfortable with that.Β They just didnβt like the idea of him being stuck in that machine one bit.Β There had to be a place for him.Β Suddenly, Abbeyβs lit up with understanding, and she bumped Abbot with the back of her hand.
βOh!Β Oh, oh!Β What about the Childrenβs House?β she suggested.Β Β βAinβt nobody live there but Nana now!Β Me anβ Abbot anβ a bunchβa other kids used ta live there, so itβs got plenny aβ room!β
Abbot lightly smacked his forehead.Β It was such an obvious solution now that he thought about it.Β The Childrenβs House had been the home of all of the orphaned kids of Tazmily.Β All those kids had grown up now, save for Nana.Β Abbot and Abbey had grown up there, as had Paul and Linda, Isaac, Bateau, Tessie, Lisaβ¦ quite a few of them, now that he thought about it.Β It was always meant to house multiple people, and while half of the Childrenβs House had been repurposed for more apartments, there was still room left for Jeff.Β Nana wouldnβt mind sharing, would she?
βWell, ainβt that perfect!β Abbot agreed.Β Β βYou really oughta stay in a real place, ya know?Β I think thatβs proβly better fer yaβ¦ where is that machine anyway?Β If itβs too far out, ya might get attacked by chimeras, and ainβt nobody want that.βΒ Abbot paused and scratched his neck.Β Are they being too pushy?Β Tooβ¦ parental, maybe?Β Β βWell-l-l, we donβt wanna assume too much of ya.Β Thass yer choice, butβ¦ thereβs place for ya if ya need it.Β Childrenβs House is all for kids who got no place ta live.Β I bet Nana wouldnβt mind the company one bit.βΒ He smiled reassuringly at Jeff.
Reading other peopleβs emotions isnβt anything that Jeff would claim to be good at, quite the opposite. However, from the way the woman is wringing her hands together, he can tell that at least she is worried about his situation, if not both of them, from the way the man apologizes to him.Β
To Jeffβs relief, the conversation about Dr. Andonuts isnβt continued any further, and instead the both of them seem determined to find him another place to live. Aside from the twins, Jeff really hasnβt talked to anyone in Tazmily, under the assumption (more like the hope) that this would be over quickly and he could get himself and his father back home. His friends and people at Snow Wood were enough aware of Jeff and Dr. Andonutsβ relationship to mostly avoid talking about it unless it was important, but here, of course everyone would think that Jeff would stay with his father, that theyβd be overjoyed to see each other, and other conventional family behaviors.
But perhaps Abbot and Abbey are being polite since they know the wordsΒ βDr. Andonutsβ andΒ βconventionalβ donβt belong together.
Β The offer to stay somewhere else is tempting. Jeff has to admit, heβs not opposed to a place with a real bed - Abbot was right, sleeping on the floor of the Phase Distorter really did not do any favors for his already sore back - but he also doesnβt want to inconvenience anyone.
It seemed like the town of Tazmily was holding more people currently than they were used to, all of a sudden, but for what reason Jeff hadnβt felt brazen enough to ask. He assumed it was because there might have been other people, like Dr. Andonuts, that were trapped outside of their true place in time. There is one supposedly open building that he might be able to stay in, though... theΒ βChildrenβs House.β His mind canβt help but conjure up images of an orphanage, or maybe a boarding house like Snow Woodβs.
βOh, the time machineβs in... the forest back there.β He gestures north of Tazmily. Lucas or Claus might have told him what it was called, but the name of it escapes him.Β βI havenβt run into a Chimera yet, but... if they really wouldnβt mind another person staying there, Iβd like a bed.β He chuckles awkwardly.Β
βYou donβt have to right now, or just point me in the direction, but where is it? Iβll admit I havenβt really spent much time here in town... and I ought to ask Nana if she minds having a roommate before I make any steps to move.β Even if he only really has a satchel to move anyway.
These two are the people Jeff has spent the most time with, and theyβve only had one conversation together. They did have a knack for making Jeff feel more at ease; they appear rather young but have the same kind of... for lack of a better word, parental sense about them. The same way Tonyβs parents and Nessβ mother would fuss over him. It gave Jeff a small sense of serenity after being homesick for the past several weeks.
