I remember during my YA class that, when we were covering dystopias, my teacher was very supportive in making sure that we weren't overwhelming ourselves with triggering material. She said it was okay if we didn't read the full books, just enough to get an idea. It really does depend on your teacher.

Still, I think I would rather have healthy discussions about triggering material than avoiding them entirely.
