Force!Ghost Anakin Skywalker -> Lego Star Wars: Summer Vacation (2022)
Heroes don't take Vacations. Evil sure doesn't. Woah, woah, woah. You sure about that? What if I told you evil does take a vacation?

The Annotated Screenplays (1997) “So the audience is saying, ‘Don’t go, finish your training.’“ is fascinating because the point of including, “No, there is another.” is about making the viewer think about how Luke could very well fail, that you’re meant to root for Luke to stay, not to rush off. It’s not the only place Lucas has talked about how crucial it is to the story that Luke is making a mistake by leaving Dagobah, but it sure is interesting to see him state it plainly again.

the thing about the kenobi show that I appreciate so much isn't that it's perfect or that I love every choice they made, but that it has such strong thematic coherence. All of the characters' stories and themes overlap and feed into each other, so you get several levels and perspectives of what they're trying to say.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is about family - the family Obi-Wan grieves for, the family Leia is part of "in every way that matters" and the family that she will never know, the family that Reva lost and wants to honour, the family that Darth Vader hates because he rejected it, the families that Tala strives to protect.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is about pretense and disguises and putting on roles like a costume - Obi-Wan hiding as a nobody in the desert, Haja pretending to be a Jedi, Tala pretending to be an imperial officer, Reva pretending loyalty as an Inquisitor to get what she wants (and what it means for Darth Vader to wear a mask)
Obi-Wan Kenobi is about leadership - the Organas trying to lead both their planet and their family, Leia who doesn't want to be a senator until she meets Tala and Obi-Wan and Roken, Tala who leads to protect others, Obi-Wan who steps into the role of General again, the intrigues of the Inquisitors vying for position and standing, and Vader, seeing through it all.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is about legacies and what they mean for the future - Luke and Leia and what they can mean, Ben who says that "the time of the Jedi is over" and slowly learns to take up the legacy of Obi-Wan Kenobi again, Tala's past and the things she can't forget but chooses to fight for, the Jedi signatures on the walls, and the agonising legacy of Anakin Skywalker looming in Darth Vader's shadow.
It's not the show I was expecting, which is fine because of course it couldn't have been. there's no point in being angry at it for following through on its own premise. and it's not perfect by any means (I would have so dearly liked to see what was happening, dear goodness, can we please have lighting I promise it won't weaken the light vs dark symbolism to be able to see expressions) but this is star wars!!!! it's never been perfect!!! and whether or not you enjoy it absolutely depends on what you're looking for, and that's fine, but personally I really liked how they tied it all together.

Uncle Owen is not a grumpy old man who is more worried about his farm than what Luke wants.
Uncle Owen is not afraid Luke inherited the cruelty of his father. He doesn’t even know Anakin became Vader, he thinks Anakin got killed.
Uncle Owen doesn’t hate Obi-Wan because they had an argument or because something happened between them while Obi-Wan was on Tatooine.
Owen Lars was handled a tiny fragile baby to protect, and told that this baby’s father, who was always restless on Tatooine as a child, who loved speed and flying, who brought his starfighters into the most dangerous battles, to whom there was never enough excitement and adventure, has gotten himself killed in a war he was so eager to fight in, and which Owen never understood.
Tumblr media
He watched over and raised this baby for 19 years. He is afraid. He is afraid when Luke becomes restless just like boy Anakin. He is afraid when Luke falls in love with flying, just like Anakin. He is afraid Obi-Wan will drag Luke off Tatooine, just like he dragged off Anakin.
He is afraid Luke will be like his father, never content to stay on their farm where it’s safe, but fly too fast, and fight too hard, and be too idealistic, and then get killed.
So when Owen says he’s afraid Luke has too much of his father’s in him, he is not worried Luke will be like Anakin, he is afraid Luke will die like Anakin.
