Hi there!

Happy New Year's to you too!! I hope everybody had a good kick-off!

I miss interacting with everybody on here so much. I have nothing but good memories from this community, and I can't believe it's been a whole fucking year since I wrote and posted a fic here.

Unfortunately, I don't see myself coming back any time soon. I don't know if I ever explained here, but shortly after my last fic was posted, I switched jobs and it ate up all my time, then I moved out of my parents house, and now I'm trying to figure out how to be a reasonably functioning human being.

Worry not, though, I'm still around! I pop in every few days to check on things and reply to any asks or messages that I can!

Hey gang, pinning this for awhile until the hysteria dies down, but let me be really clear regarding folks using AI to write fanfiction or taking one of their fave fics that hasn’t been updated in awhile and feeding it to ChatGPT to “finally read the ending”:

I explicitly forbid ANYONE from feeding my fics to AI generators to create their own content, even if it’s only using pieces to create a beginning or an ending.

I work really hard on my writing, and it’s incredibly disrespectful for other writers to disregard that and use AI to generate their own content or to try to “finish” someone’s fic for them because they’re upset it hasn’t been updated recently.

Writing can be frustrating and really hard. I say this as someone who hasn’t written something new in months (maybe a year?). Give your favorite writers some kudos and encouragement instead of whining that you’re going to use AI to finish their fics for them.

In the vein of using AI to write fic from start to finish, please know that AI writing isn’t good enough yet to create completely organic, new content - if you use AI to write fic, you’re plagiarizing. That’s it. Even if you have good intentions, you’re plagiarizing.

Dick's been teasing him for forty-five minutes. It isn't even verbal. Damian doesn't know how he's doing it, but every single goddamn side glance has a different one-liner behind it and it's driving him up the wall.

You pull it off well.

Too well.

It's the confliction that's drilling him into the floor.

Because on one hand, you look good. It fits you so well, perfectly, he might even say. His girlfriend is strolling around his home in a skin-tight uniform. He's feeling things.

But here's the problem. It's too perfect. Suspiciously so, he might even say. All of the false armor plates are in the right spots, the mask is flawless, even the escrima sticks look a little too realistic. To put it plainly: you look like his brother. The one he's closest to, at that. And thinking about the way that suit hugs your body makes him feel wrong when you're wearing that emblem.

Even that's bothering him. For different reasons, thankfully.

It almost feels traitorous. You're wearing his brother's crest. Not his. You might have a sticker of his emblem on your car's bumper, you might still smell like his cologne, you might be staying the night in his room after, and you might be on your way back to him with his drink in your hand—but you're wearing his brother's crest tonight.

You smile at him, all familiarity and warmth, but he can't get past that mask. "Here, it's on your tab," you tell him, holding out his second drink of the night. A sly grin. You hold up your own. "So's this one."

He rolls his eyes. Naturally. Like he'd let you pay for a drink in his house. "Thanks."

Dick glances at him again. All smugness and laughing in his face. If Jason shows up, he's a goner.

He clears his throat, turning his back on his brother to face you. "So, where'd this come from?"

Your eyes sparkle with no white lenses in the black frame. "Oh, this old thing? Just had it lying around."

He cocks an eyebrow. "My brother's suit was just lying around somewhere in your house?" He peers at you over the rim of his glass.

He's expecting a witty remark. He's expecting you to play along, toss him some sly, smart reply alluding to an affair. Not, "Yep. He must've left it there after we banged."

He almost chokes on his bourbon.

You beam over his shoulder. He can imagine Dick clinging to his wife for dear life while he laughs his ass off.

how do you find beta readers for fics?

Ahh, you mean friends I force my hyperfixations on.

A lot of it boils down to reaching out and hoping something sticks. I used to be in a discord with a bunch of other popular batfam writers and there were so many channels purely so we could get our fics proofread. We'd all be each others' proofreaders, some would put untintelligable thoughts, screaming, and motivation, while others (me lmao) would offer advice and grammar.

I left that discord like, a hot minute ago, but I did miss that kind of collaboration. After I got comfortable writing for myself, I started reaching out to other content creators simply because like, why not?

Worst case scenario they're not interested or say no to talking. Best case? You get a cool online friend to bug all the time. People forget all content creators on here are just humans screaming about their hyper fixations to a crowd, sometimes they could enjoy a new friend.

How do you think I scored a friendship with @birdy-bat-writes?? I made a dumb joke in their tags and I blink and we're meeting up for coffee. @unmotivatedwrit3r?? They reached out to me about a fic they were writing and guess what, they can't get rid of me even if they tried. They've heard my voice, they're in too deep now. @quillsareswords????? honestly I spammed their page until they let me be their friend. I am like an annoying koala hugging their leg.

Are they soley my beta readers? Not at all, they're friends first, but they're also fanfic writers and if I talk about a fic I'm writing, most often they enjoy reading it. And I like reading their work too! But I wouldn't have gotten to meet any of them without someone starting that connection.

I've scrolled through my dash and see people asking to be beta readers. I can't speak for many content creators but whenever I have any of you guys enter my inbox or dms asking me to beta read something, I literally kick and scream and squeal like a child. I love that shit. I will always offer to beta read stuff and the idea that people find my writing good enough to want to listen to what I say?? Insane.

So yea, reach out to people, branch out. Find discords with other fic writers! Those are always a great way to find other content creators to bond with and most times those creators become friends.
