why wouldn't liam wear the ring if simon jones' is there? (sorry don't know too much about simon)

Because Simon Jones is the head of Hackford-Jones Public Relations (HJPR), the PR firm with whom Modest! Management works.

Quick recap: Yesterday during OTRA Cardiff, Liam wore this ring on the ring finger of his right hand, which was unusual because he 1) never wears rings, and 2) wearing the ring on the right hand has many plausible significances that strongly suggest the ring is related to Zayn:

Today, Liam did not wear the ring at the Summertime Ball.  Since it was a high-profile event where he was surrounded by M!M/HJPR employees like Simon Jones, he ran the risk of the ring being used for PR.

Also, Liam’s beard Sophia attended the Ball.  However, note that she is not wearing any rings on her left hand, the typical “engagement ring hand,” in the Instagram video he posted (in which he shaded her) with her this morning:

By not wearing the ring around Simon Jones or Sophia, who was also ringless, Liam both 1) indicated that the ring is not for Sophia, and 2) prevented it from being passed off as such by M!M/HJPR or casual observers.

Furthermore, Zayn’s beard and fake “fiancée” Perrie also attended the Summertime Ball.  She did wear her “engagement” ring:

Therefore, Liam not wearing his ring to the Ball was not just him refusing to associate it with his own beard Sophia, but with his boyfriend Zayn’s beard Perrie, who paraded her fake “engagement” with him there.

Finally, Liam did wear his ring again (and Zayn’s hat) at OTRA Cardiff 2, indicating that the ring is probably meaningful:

Liam not wearing the ring at the Summertime Ball, where M!M/HJPR employees where present, prevented it from being twisted for PR.

Liam not wearing the ring around his beard Sophia, who was also ringless, essentially debunked any possibility of it being for her.

Liam not wearing the ring around Zayn’s beard Perrie, who wore her “engagement” ring, was perhaps his way of not associating the ring with her and what she stands for.

Liam wearing the ring again, despite never wearing rings, on his right ring finger strongly suggests it is related to his relationship with Zayn.  The ring also fits his and Zayn’s longstanding tradition of wearing each other’s clothes or items that associate them with each other when they are publicly separated.

I think the cool thing about No Control Project is that this is showing that the boys have staying power which is like a big deal among boybands. There’s like a 5 year life expectancy. But this is showing everyone that we’re here to support them and their music despite what anyone thinks about their “shelf life”. And all these DJs (like Cam and Grimmy and Scott Mills) all these people SEE that. They know it too. They know One Direction could be in the industry for the long haul. And I think all this support is here because they are GREAT but also because maybe everyone is just as pissed as we are that they’re being marketed like shit; that their management hasn’t upgraded their image as a band with a changed sound and isn’t putting in ANY kind of effort. 

DIY project indeed. We’re gonna DIY the hell out of One Direction’s longevity.

Just so you know...

Hey guys,

I’m writing to you with an update I wish I wasn’t giving you, but it’s important and I’m used to sharing important events in my life with you. Usually when things happen to me, I process them and then write music about how I feel, and you hear it much later. This is something my family and I thought you should know about now.

For Christmas this year, I asked my mom that one of her gifts to me be her going to the doctor to get screened for any health issues, just to ease some worries of mine. She agreed, and went in to get checked. There were no red flags and she felt perfectly fine, but she did it just to get me and my brother off her case about it.

The results came in, and I’m saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer. I’d like to keep the details of her condition and treatment plans private, but she wanted you to know.

She wanted you to know because your parents may be too busy juggling everything they’ve got going on to go to the doctor, and maybe you reminding them to go get checked for cancer could possibly lead to an early diagnosis and an easier battle… Or peace of mind in knowing that they’re healthy and there’s nothing to worry about. She wanted you to know why she may not be at as many shows this tour. She’s got an important battle to fight.

Thank you for caring about my family so much that she would want me to share this information with you. I hope and pray that you never get news like this.
