Prodigal Son Secret Santa Sign-Ups

Reminder that you have until 11:59pm EST on October 1st to sign up for Prodigal Son Secret Santa! Participants can create fanart, fanfic, gifsets, fanmixes, moodboards, etc, anything you can think of!

Fill out the form if you'd like to participate. You will be assigned your recipient before October 5th and you will have between December 20th and January 1st to post your gift. Extra gifts can be posted through the whole month of January.

Please fill out the form in as much detail as possible to help give your recipient ideas! Please be respectful of the things your recipient lists that they do/do not want to receive. If you have any questions or concerns about your assignment, please DM me as soon as possible.

Everyone who signs up will be asked if they would like to receive extra gifts, if you say yes, your responses to the form will be shown not just to your secret santa, but to all other participants. All participants will be sent a sheet with the responses of participants who would like to receive extra gifts. If you would like to create an extra gift--- for a friend, for a mutual, for a total stranger who happens to like the same characters as you--- feel free!

Love when whumpee turns up completely out of the blue. Nobody knew they had been taken/attacked/in an accident/etc., as far as they knew whumpee was fine.

Whumpee just walks into an otherwise perfectly normal situation with the living shit beat out of them, swaying dangerously, eyes unfocused.

Everyone present is shocked. Someone jumps up to catch whumpee before they fall, helping them into a chair or easing them to the ground.

Thoughts on Simon Hoxley's Exceedingly Posh English Accent

Alan Cumming has a lovely voice and a lovely accent, so I did wonder why he, or the powers that be, decided that Simon Hoxley should be doing this almost pantomime-esque, stereotypical, cliched posh English accent.

Having thought about it, I've rationalised that it's kind of "extra" because this Simon Hoxley is putting on a show of still being a super successful author, and a super successful profiler who catches the bad guys. He seems to live a life of luxury where people fawn over him because of who he is. When in fact, it's just a front, he's past his best, he's on his way out, he's washed up, he's a fraud. Because the Simon Hoxley of now no longer has a best selling book and is not currently catching the bad guys. He may well have gone through all the money he would have earned from the bookdeal. He's a phony. Just like his watch and just like Malcolm says.

So, along with the cashmere scarf, the watch, the neat appearance and the smart attire, the accent is another layer in his own armour against other people's perceptions of him. It exudes wealth, aristocracy, education, connections. And distracts most people from seeing through the glossy exterior to the "real" Simon Hoxley beneath. 

Except Malcolm isn't like most people. It takes one to know one, and as someone who puts up his own front and layers up his own armour every day to deflect people from seeing the "real" him, Malcolm recognises that in Simon. And so should we... the accent is accentuated, it's not real, it's as phony as his watch.

2x03 // 1x01

In Martin Whitly’s escape fantasy/dream at the beginning of 2x03 (Alma Mater), he turns from Jessica and sees Malcolm sat on the sofa. The dream then rapidly descends into a bit of a nightmare where Martin is actually still in his cell at Claremont.

Malcolm’s jacket is giving me massive Gil Vibes (specifically from the pilot). I can’t quite place whether it is genuinely Malcolm’s jacket, ie, if we’ve seen him wear it at any other time.

BUT, given that Martin’s dream turns into a nightmare, it wouldn’t surprise me if they’ve popped him into that Gil-like jacket to amp up Martin’s fear that Gil is more of a father figure to and has been a greater influence over Malcolm than Martin himself has been.
