All of this!!!
It’s not what I wanted for him, but it’s beautiful. It’s tragic. It’s Loki. I will have so many more thoughts later, but for now I’m very much still analyzing everything.
(And yes, his shoes! They’re like the ones he had in prison in Dark World! He’s not going anywhere! 😢😢😢)
Loki - season 2, episode 6 series finale -immediate reaction
Okay, so this time I’m gonna have to split this into two posts.  This one is my reaction after just watching the finale, but this time it’s going to be mostly my emotional response, and the more considered post with images will have to wait till later.  I don’t have the heart for it right now.
So yeah, spoilers ahead.
Well that tore out my heart and stamped on it!
I mean it was an utterly perfect story for a character like Loki, but I’m still devastated. I love it. And I hate it.
I love it on a story level.  The whole season was beautifully done! Loki developed so much over the six episodes, and really won my heart back. I fell in love with the gang from the TVA, particularly OB and Mobius, and I warmed to Sylvie and just wanted her to be able to live the quiet life she’s wanted for so long.
I loved that they really went into the depth I had assumed I’d only get in a fic about the different attempts Loki made to fix things by going back in time. They didn’t just gloss over things, they really showed him trying.  I was shocked when after he asked OB how long it would take him to learn everything, he went and spent CENTURIES doing it!  My stomach dropped.  Because can you imagine what that means for someone?  Even someone as long lived as Loki?  What that has to do to your mind? And that should have been the first clue things weren’t going to turn up roses.
Then he finally succeeds! But they don’t show it to us like we’re experiencing that moment, but more as though we’re an observer, rushing through it because it’s yet another repeat. And for one brief moment Loki is happy because he thinks they’ve done it. But no, it turns out to have been an impossible task!
And then he finds out that HWR basically gave him his newfound powers, and that he still had a lot to learn, and then we see THAT HE ALREADY HAD LEARNED! The way they kept dropping the sense of time on us, that sense of dread and urgency. And inevitability. *shivers*
How he tries, and tries, and tries to convince Sylvie, but can’t get through to her, and how he has to contemplate whether he’s the sort of man who could kill her. I loved how he visited Mobius to ask for his advice. My god. What a horrible conversation to have to have.  But what trust he places in Mobius!
And I loved how he kept refusing to take the easy path. How he decided he couldn’t kill Sylvie, and how he realised there was another way. But OMG at what price!? I can’t….
But I hated how much this hurt Loki, what this took from him.  When the gold from the rock trickles upwards to create a mockery of a throne, which is more a prison… just…. 😭 The look on his face once he knows what he has to do. He had to make the impossible choice, and he chose the impossible.
I love that it kept the tone of tragedy that has haunted Loki all through the MCU.  I love how they were true to his character in that way, but AT THE SAME TIME allowed him to retain his new sense of self, all that growth we’ve shared through this series but also the change that he’s experienced while he’s been isolated during centuries trying to find a way to defeat HWR and keep the people on the branched timelines safe. His desperate act to do the right thing.  And finally it is the right thing in the eyes of the universe and the audience, and yet he still loses. My heart just can’t bear it!
It’s perfect and it hurts.

What do I want from the finale tonight?
Frigga
Tumblr media
Frigga.
Tumblr media
FRIGGA!!
Tumblr media
Loki deserves a proper closure to that plot. His mother is brought up occasionally and he has that guilt of thinking it’s his fault she was killed. He needs that assurance that he’s on the right path and it’s not his fault. It’s just all meant to be in the timeline.
Thor got his moment with Frigga in Engdame, but he’s not the one who truly needs it. It’s Loki.
Is there any chance of this happening? Absolutely not. Just like I don’t think there a real chance of any Loki/Mobious ship. BUT I love to be proven wrong! Let’s see!

Aaaah!! I love all of this! And was blown away by this episode!
I have a theory on the alarm at the end… and it’s a big jump but I would love it: Frigga. There was an alarm going off when Asgard was being attacked and she died. I wonder if there is ANY chance Loki could be going to that moment in time to make peace with it.
Thor got his moment with her in Endgame which was beautiful but he didn’t need it as much as Loki in my opinion. I wonder that too since they mentioned Loki “killing” his mother back in episode 2 and therefore the audience has that information in their back pocket.
Again, it’s a BIG stretch, but Omg I. Would. Love. It.
Loki episode 5 reaction and initial thoughts
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I can’t believe it! I’m so unused to getting what I hope for with Loki in movies and TV that I almost don’t know what to do when you get almost exactly what you’d hoped for!!!!!   (Within the bounds of this being the TVA version of Loki of course.) That was excellent!  And hit most of the key things I was hoping for as well as giving some absolutely charming additions!
It packed in a lot of story, and it was a delight to see the characters on the timeline. It wasn’t as gripping and tense as the last episode, but that's probably a good thing for my stress levels lol! But it was a really lovely time travel story.
And Loki has unlocked a new ability. Maybe.
The opening music!! Perfectly creepy!  And even more so than the music over the credits of the last episode. It really sounded like the disintegration of reality!
And I loved the way the letters disappeared from the Loki title card… *shivers*
Tumblr media
It was a small thing, but nice to see at least one thing I’d guessed correct – that they started the episode with the reverse of this shot at the end of episode 4.
Tumblr media
I loved how spooky it was having Loki walk through the corridors of the TVA by himself. And I did rather enjoy the moment he almost met himself.  That was cute. But it was clear that they needed to get on to other things quite quickly – there was a lot in this episode!!
The imagery of the universe disintegrating was perfectly terrifying! (Although I was getting big “snap” vibes.)  And what is Fail Safe Mode? And does it matter?
Tumblr media
I was a little sad to see Casey was a prisoner. 😔   But I wonder if we’ll see these timeline versions of the characters again?  I feel like the need for them is over? Unless maybe briefly at the start of the last episode. So we didn't have to watch him being particularly horrible.
I didn’t pick that he’d be the first person Loki would visit, nor did I pick that it would all be unintentional.
I did like the way Loki still hoped that Mobius would recognise him. And the conversation itself was ambiguous enough I suppose for the first couple of sentences that you could interpret it that way. Poor Loki looked so disappointed!
I laughed as was intended at the imitation of the inflatable advertising character.  😁
Tumblr media
And then OB!!!  Omg!  I LOVE what they chose to do with his character!!!  He was so sweet, and retained his enthusiastic and super intelligent personality! I hadn’t really settled on what I thought OB might have been like on the timeline, but this was so much better! And how he was like “and I had to get a PHD to keep my day job as a theoretical physicist”….!  😄
And @pinkpondofasgard I hope you’ve seen this episode when you see this mention, because spoilers - looks like you were right about this being a location from OB’s past!  Which I think is super cool!  I don’t have any idea what this would be in the 1990s in the US, but obviously it worked so well for OB that he replicated it in the TVA!  Unless this whole series all turns out to be his dream… Ha ha! Ha…. ha…… er…  Anyway. I love that so many of the shelves are covered in books instead of technical TVA equipment.
Tumblr media
Okay, so now I’m seriously thinking there’s a chance OB might actually be the founder of the TVA.  HWR could easily have come along later and taken over the leadership and wiped his memories.  But the fact the rooms are sooooo similar is just a bit too weird.
I did like how they handled Loki explaining things to Mobius.  Mobius was suitably sceptical and Loki was trying so hard not to sound threatening, but that’s not really his bag, is it. Lol! Things would definitely have gone pear shaped if OB hadn’t turned up.
I feel like Loki’s getting a lot of use out of the phrase “I promise you this will make sense” lol!
While I was kinda looking forward to the multiple crazy conversations while Loki tries to convince people he’s not mad, I do appreciate they had to make this quick, and I liked how they made each interaction shorter than the one before it, until he didn’t even need to say anything after stepping through the time door.
Then there was Sylvie.  I was by this point just as surprised as Loki that she kept her memories.  Now I have to assume that’s because she wasn’t ever a TVA worker who had her memories wiped.  But if that’s the case, then why wasn’t she in the Loom room with Loki when he ‘woke up’?  I’m assuming we’re meant to understand that this is because Loki feels most at home in the TVA, rather than Asgard. I find that's a little bit much, personally.  But I guess I’ll put that one to the side for the moment.
I did not expect her to be so adamant about not helping.  I mean I should have, but I didn’t. Their conversation at the bar was interesting, and I liked that Loki was so concerned that the TVA folk get a choice.  (And I kinda think now that they might, come the end of the season.  With OB choosing to stay because it’s literally his dream, Casey because it’s better than being an escaped prisoner, and B-15 and Mobius choosing to leave.)
The whole scene in the record shop – that was cool!  The small things that went wrong first, and the way the store owner slowly noticed it. *shivers*
Tumblr media
Although again, very similar to the snap. I like how small objects vanish first, and I really should have seen that coming when the tempad went missing, but I didn’t.  I think there was just so much squashed into this episode!
And this was such a haunting image.
Tumblr media
And then Sylvie says “there’s nowhere left to go” before she too disintegrates.  Eeeee!
Again, this looked really cool!  Are we meant to understand that Loki could hear a moment in the timeline of a person each time he touched a thread?  I wonder if that holds for any thread? Or was that just illustrating his memories?
Tumblr media
I’m not sure that’s important though, given he almost immediately jumps back to the TVA, but we haven’t seen this image from the mid-season trailer yet. Not one from this angle where Sylvie is still whole, and where Loki is standing confidently and making this specific gesture.  I wonder now if he’s just snapped his fingers? Perhaps this moment is revisited, or perhaps just an alternate take that looked cool for the trailer.
Tumblr media
I did like the ending, and how he jumped back to them all to tell them he’d figured out how to do it.  I wonder if he’ll be able to come back to them under his own steam at a later date?
I’m still not entirely sure if this is something that in integral to Loki now or whether its related to circumstances. Like will it be possible to time-slip after the TVA is restored? If that means going back within the TVA before the moment he started time-slipping in the first place. *shrug*
So, what point did he jump back to?  There’s an alarm blaring in the background, but no other identifying things.  So I’m guessing this is just as they watch Timely go down the stairs to suit up?
Tumblr media
Does he try to stop Timely from going out there? Explain it didn’t work, and then ask OB for information in the last few moment before jumping back further?
Tumblr media
And more importantly, after the multiverse is saved, does this mean he can jump to the time and place of any person he cares about?  Could he visit his Mum? Or a Thor?!! 🥲
Ah!  This was a really great time travel episode! And I'm thoroughly looking forward to the final episode.

The fact that Tom attended Richard E. Grant’s Halloween party warms my heart so much! They are both such amazing gems of people and especially with everything Grant has gone through, I’m sure having people like Tom around helps in every way! 🩵

Loki S2 Episode 3
Okay, my Loki loving self was a little disappointed that there was more focus on other characters this episode, but this was still a solid episode.  It feels like things are moving forward, and all the key characters from last season are back in play, so I'm interested to see where this goes.  Hopefully somewhere interesting.
Spoilers ahead……
Gotta give an honourable mention to the opening Marvel fanfare being played on a honky tonk piano (and the small internet wormhole that sent me down about honky tonk pianos lol).
And here we are in Chicago 1868 of the sacred timeline.  Purposely about to create a branched timeline?  I thought it was kinda different to jump straight to the changing the past to create the future you want thing, rather than it being an unintended consequence.  Clearly I’ve read and watched a lot of time travel stories!  I kinda spent the whole episode waiting for the other shoe to drop.  Are they accidentally creating a monster?  (I mean a different monster from the intended He Who Remains variety.)  And this was another episode that felt too short.  So perhaps we’ll find out next week. *shrugs*
I quite like the Victor Timely character so far – he seems to have enough promise (or should that be threat?), even though we only saw a little bit of his personality and motivation in this episode.  I assume more will be revealed and he’ll become significantly more scary by the end of the season.  And, like what’s up with his ‘partnership’ thing?  Is that something important?  Or just a random character flaw that allowed us to see Ravonna and Miss Minutes’ relationship and Miss Minutes’ creepy Pinocchio fantasy? I find it hard to tell.  I did think his adoration of Ouroboros was a neat juxtaposition since we know what OB is like and can imagine the serious Timely and him meeting and how jarring a contrast that would be.  😊
And damn Sylvie shows up again at the most inconvenient moments lol! I liked towards the end just how tired and worn out with all of this she has become.  I keep having to remember for her it’s been a fair while.  I quite enjoyed the fight scene in the Ferris wheel carriage and how they drew our attention to the parallels to Season 1. And importantly it was good to see Loki holding his own and using magic.
We get to the Chicago Worlds Fair in 1893 and I note is says ‘branched timeline’.  So not one of the ones that was pruned by the rogue TVA faction?  (And what happened to them again, anyway? Did any of them get away?  I can’t remember). Anyway I assume this means that He Who Remains was very confident that the TVA would not carry on pruning timelines.  So what would have happened if this had been one of the branched ones they did manage to prune?  Would Ravonna just have had to come back and drop the book off a second time? (Questioning time travel logic. That way lies madness.)
Anywho! Yay period costumes!!!!  Although this isn’t a period I’m particularly familiar with.
The little scene with the statues of Odin, Thor, and Balder was a nice reminder of who Loki is.  He’s strayed so far from that beginning in this series that sadly I think we need to be reminded every so often.  Though I wonder if anything will ever come of it.  I read a comment in an interview with the episode’s director Kasra Farahani about how this scene has a couple of goals, and one of them was to “remind Loki and the audience that Loki's not just somebody who works with the TVA, but that he's a God. That he comes from that stock and that he has that power within him”.  And I thought that was particularly interesting, because he says “Loki AND the audience”.  That feels like something that might have a payoff down the line.
I also liked that they used the same musical theme they used when Loki read about the destruction of Asgard in season 1.  At least they’re acknowledging that Loki still feels the loss of his old life and family.
I liked the scene where we meet Timely and we see the context of the Quantumania mid credits scene.  I still love how terrified Loki looks here (sorry!).
Tumblr media
I did find it interesting later in the episode when Loki finds himself defending Timely.  That must have felt weird!  And I wonder how much of a threat Loki thinks he is – no-one went out of their way to hide anything from him, and I kinda feel like not giving him the idea of becoming a super powerful madman might have been a better plan. *shrugs* I guess that was Ravonna’s goal anywsy, and Sylvie didn’t care because she intended he not live past that conversation.  But I can’t shake the feeling that this is a tragedy in the making.
There was a little moment that reminded me of OG Loki more than usual – when he was facing off with the huge man in the bar.  If I could make a gif of it I would have, but there was that little head shake and the fake smile that reminded me of the moment in Thor when he’s bargaining with Laufey on Jotunheim, or with Thanos in Infinity War for example. Yay!  ❤️
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I thought sending Renslayer to the end of time was a good punishment – if only she didn’t have Miss Minutes and a tempad.  :/ And super creepy to see it was a decent amount of time after Sylvie and Loki had been there.
So from this are we to assume that Renslayer has had her memories wiped too – she doesn’t have any particular reaction to seeing the remains of He who… er… Remains.  But then she did keep talking about how she kept the TVA running for eons..?  So I’m assuming this is the big secret that Miss Minutes is promising to tell her?  Or were her memories erased less often?
Overall, I enjoyed the episode, but Episode 1 was still the most gripping, and the most Loki, episode for me so far.  I hope they can bring more of that to the remaining episodes.
