I always thought the phrase "porn with plot" for written erotica was a weird one, because even something as simple as "the pizza guy delivered dinner but the sexy housewife can't pay cash" is a plot. The lowest-tier amateur porn film can still have a plot.
It genuinely just feels like a way to de-legitimize and ridicule erotica. "Oh, it's not art, it's just porn with plot."
Let me hit y'all with this one: All porn is inherently art. It is created with the intent to provoke a reaction in the viewer. It is a vehicle for exploring themes and stories just as much as any other media. Porn performers are artists, and they're majorly marginalized artists at that.
Sex work is work, and erotic media is art. No amount of sex-negativity will ever change that.

Wuthering Heights but all the characters just shout "Objection!" at eachother (basically WH if it was ace attorney)
Tumblr media
Oh absolutely. The breakdown sprites??? They would work SO well with WH characters. Honestly I think I became obsessed with Wuthering Heights for a lot of the same reasons I became obsessed with Ace Attorney. They're both full of characters who are really weird, incredibly overdramatic assholes. Both full of ghosts, relationship drama, death, and violence. I also feel like there's an overlap in the sense of humor both works have, but I can't quite put it into words.

People are so boring about classic literature sometimes. Like I know it’s cool to be critical of men in books from the 19th century or whatever but it just leads to ripping out all of the nuance in favor of “Uh all of the Brontë men were evil and abusive and that’s all there is to those characters.” Say something interesting. I’m begging you

I just looove that the way media and fandom exists now, "plot" refers exclusively to shit that can be added to a wiki entry. A moment that exists to develop characters or explore themes isn't plot. You can't make 'lore explained' videos out of it so what's the point? We call that filler now. Plot is either when exposition happens or when somebody dies, that's all there is.

echo you will always be famous.
arc trooper being hand selected for infiltration on his own and all of their universal trust in him and his abilities
ESPECIALLY compared to how little trust anyone in the empire has in anyone else. Scalder is suspicious, Rampart is suspicious, Hemlocks entire scheme to hide the coordinates is a hot bed of suspicion.
the clones trusted each other completely. and that loyalty was abused in the end of the war, and its part of the tragedy and part of what makes them so compelling.

I know most of us are normal but I just would like to remind SOME of the fanbase that if CX-2 isn't Tech or Cody (or whoever else) then do NOT harass the crew. That's shit behaviour. You have to accept that theories are just that until proven correct or incorrect, and you can not treat fan theories like canon, or things that "should have been" canon. If you become so angry at being wrong that you feel the need to harass the crew, then you have only yourself to blame for allowing the theory to obscure and your enjoyment of the show and it's ending. That is how they wanted to tell the story. It is not their job to give us what we want. That's what fanfics and fix-it fics are for.
I also want CX-2 to be Tech. I have made my own posts about the similarities between the two. But that's all they are: theories. If CX-2 never appears again or is confirmed to be Some Rando™ then we're just gonna have to deal with it. We can not change that. You can not change that. But you HAVE TO RESPECT Jennifer, Brad, Dave, and all the other members of the crew. Be. Normal.

Everyone should check out the "it's a kid's show" sections (27:33–42:47) of this video essay!
Excerpt (30:07):
People forget that the reason Bismuth is bubbled is because Bismuth jumps to the conclusion that Steven must "secretly" be Rose, instead of taking time to understand and hear Steven out. This is how a child is going to watch the show, and then latch this concept onto their personal life experiences. An 8-year-old isn't going to be, like, "ah yes, this episode is about telling the black civil rights leader, Malcolm X, that violence is always unacceptable!" Are you stupid? This is why it's important to not dismiss the demographic the show is being made for, and why a show tailored to kids may take on different meanings when observed in a non-kid centered context.

i highly reccomend this video and this channel in general. The creator is really good at understanding Steven Universe for what it is at its core. Its values and messages. This specific vid made me cry for seemingly no reason at "idealism" part of the video. Its unfair how hate reviews got so much more traction, millions of views. Convincing people this show is terrible, not even being able to understand it while making bold claims and hating on its creators. So im putting this out there in hopes i can bring more people to watch it, and maybe even, Change their Minds *badums*

purity peddlers of tumblr dot com be like “i only watch cartoons because they are so wholesome and optimistic, unlike all that depressing adult media which is all bleak and gritty” but also like “what do you mean this show that was literally made for children is advocating for love and compassion as a way to solve conflicts instead of just killing the bad guys?”

The ongoing and seemingly continuous discussion of f/f shipping is equal parts frustrating and depressing for me.
I like f/f, m/m, and m/f pairings equally, but you’ll only ever see me posting about m/m and m/f on my blog or on my AO3 because of the responses I’ve gotten to my headcanons and fics. I have gotten passive aggressive insults, been called slurs, and even gotten death threats, not because I ship f/f but because I ship the “wrong kind” of f/f.
For example: 5 years ago I was really big into the She-Ra (2018) fandom and my OTP was Glimdora (Glimmer/Adora), an f/f ship. But they were an unpopular ship in the fandom who overall preferred to ship Adora with the series antagonist (also a woman) instead.
My blog was spammed with Anon hate and Tumblr kept sending me those emails asking if I was a risk for self harm. On my AO3 I got accused of being homophobic or lesbian phobic even though I was posting fics of two women being in love.
I got sick of it, so I left the fandom and now I just don’t post my f/f fic or headcanons anymore. I share them with my IRL friends instead.
Like, I agree, it does suck royally that there just isn’t very much f/f content out there, especially not compared to m/m and m/f ship. But f/f spaces made it very clear that I, a person who did write and post f/f fics, was not welcome in f/f spaces.
It makes me depressed because it’s hard enough being an AFAB person in a world that hates both women and queer people IRL. F/f communities online SHOULD be a haven for us. But they for that to happen we need to accept all f/f, but we don’t. Our communities are overly concerned with “letting the right ones in”.
And I’m frustrated when I post after post of fellow f/f shippers screaming into the void begging for more f/f content. Like, my sisters, if you WANT more f/f content you need to ALLOW more f/f content.

“Why are fanfictions always so much better written than canon??”
Because they’re catered to you and your ideas of what the characters, story, etc. should be, which doesn’t always line up with canon.
It’s not a matter of which one is objectively better, but of audience.
Fanfiction is made for fans by fans with copious amounts of fanon concepts made to appeal to, well, the fandom. This is not inherently bad, and obviously the amount of fanons and which ones will vary from fic to fic, but given that the quote above generally only applies to fics the poster likes…yeah. That fic is written specifically for you and the people who agree with you. Again, not inherently a bad thing.
BUT that is not the case for canon. Canon is not written for the fandom; the fandom can’t form until after the canon exists. How that fandom changes as different people come and go as they decide they do or don’t like the directions canon takes is another story, but nonetheless unlike fanfiction it is not written to cater to fanon concepts and preferences. And “not catering to fanon” is not synonymous with “bad writing”.
Now that said, yes there are obviously fanfics out there that are objectively very well-written and creative, and yes there is canon material out there for whatever book/movie/tv show/etc that objectively isn’t so great.
But most of the time, your perception of fanfics is better because they’re tailored to your biases. Not because they’re objectively better-written.
Again, there’s nothing inherently wrong with that–it’s completely normal to prefer/enjoy things that fit your opinions/headcanons–but maybe step back and consider that a moment before you go and bash the creators of your favorite book/movie/show for not following the same plot of your favorite fic.
