the scariest thing about old tv isnt really the racism or the sexisim because you kinda go in braced for that it's all the scenes where suddenly an actress is holding a lion cub or a chimpanzee is in the same room as a toddler, or suddenly theres a lion, or there's a chimpanzee again but it's driving a car, or holding a lighter, or holding fireworks. You just kind of watch in horror as over and over an actress performs with only 1960s tv film shootings best animal handling between her and the opening to Nope.

you need to be around freaks and weirdos who dress ugly and have weird kinks because the more you're exposed to it the next time you see a conservative try to get you scared about ugly drag queens you're not gonna think "oh my that is a scary drag queen she must be doing scary things" you're instead gonna think "hey that looks like the people in my friend group. that's a relatable down to earth person. what's your fucking problem"

desperately need people to understand that you can critically enjoy something. you don't have to defend something tooth and nail because you enjoyed it. you're allowed to criticize questionable writing. you're allowed to criticize bad choices. you're allowed to criticize things you enjoy otherwise and that doesn't make you a "hater," it makes you a critical thinker. the quashing of valid criticism because you're so fixated on not "ruining other peoples' fun" is so unbelievably bizarre, especially when the media in question is fallout related. it's fairly alarming to watch people defend bad writing that makes marginalized fans feel really fucking weird and uncomfortable about the show.

y'all don't NEED to badger Black fans because they're not okay with a previously nonexistent branding ritual in a fascist pseudoreligious cult first being shown on a Black man. y'all really don't NEED to badger fans, Jewish or not, who were uncomfortable with a holocaust survivor's name being used to name what is functionally an american nazi scientist in fallout. those fans are not "haters" because they disliked elements that were added to the show. reducing all criticism to "hate" has really kicked valid discussion and critique of media right in the teeth and it's alarming to watch.

stop targeting people with vitriol for having some rightful concerns about themes in the media they consume.
