Grian’s going to get a headache. His hands are pressed together, his pointer fingers at his lips, and he stares at the cheerily working guy in tailcoats and a stupid green corset and top hat.

Okay. The corset actually looks fantastic on him, but that is not the point. The point is,

“How long have we been dating.”

“About a month,” is Scar’s reply.

Grian takes another moment to collect his thoughts now that his suspicions have been confirmed. The silence would be hilarious if not infuriating. Scar, of course, keeps drawing more swaggon designs unaffected.

“And you didn’t think to tell me.”

This time, the silence is accompanied with the sound of his apparent partner setting down his clump of charcoal. He turns slowly, and he looks as confused as Grian felt when he first caught wind of this.

“Scar, how am I the last person to know we were dating?”

“I thought you were shy and I didn’t want to push your boundaries.” He sounds genuinely upset saying this, and Grian sighs.

“Do you not want—“

“You’re telling me,” Grian continues slowly, cutting off whatever Scar nonsense was about to say, “That I could’ve been kissing you this entire time.”

“I—well, yes! I just didn’t expect you to since you were so preoccupied with the moon and I didn’t want to push you because we both have our builds too and…” He trails off, losing steam the longer Grian doesn’t react.

Grian sighs again.

“…Do you want to kiss?” Scar tries, nervously rubbing at the charcoal on his palms.

God. He does. He really does.

“Do you?”

“Do you—do you really have to ask?” And he’s got quiet, nervous giggles bubbling at the edges of his words, the kind that always kick Grian’s heartbeat up a notch.

“Right,” Grian says, clapping once and getting to his feet. “Looks like we’re dating. Glad we could clear that up.”

The anxious air vanishes from his partner instantly, and he can visibly see the terrible idea form behind those eyes of his. He can’t decide if he wants to be amused or cautious.

“You also like me! Great. I have an idea. You do like me, right?”

“I’m doubting my taste in men by the second but yes, I do.”

“Perfect. I’m breaking up with you.”

And Grian—Grian lets the words sink in and he starts laughing, because what sort of plan could he possibly be scheming.

“Hey, no no no, don’t be like that, this is a good idea! Now I can woo you properly!”

“Scar, you already have me—“

“Yeah, but you didn’t know the vex customs! I have ideas on how to court you by Watcher standards now, I have sources!”

He keeps laughing, because this is the man he loves. It’s such a Scar thing, too.

“What happens if I court you back?”

“I—well then, I’d court you better!” Scar almost sounds offended. Grian keeps laughing.

“I’d like to see you try.”
