[ Unicorn ] - Unfortunately, no horses are allowed in the ballroom. The Projectionist has thoughtfully prepared a stuffed horse for prop purposes, sturdy enough for one small child to sit on without fearing for their life. A single horn adorns its forehead.
Julia clutches the stuffed animal to her chest, cradling it like a babe as she searches for someone who looks friendly enough to approach. A teacher catches her eye - a man dressed like the man who found her alone and lost. That familiarity urges her onward.
"Sir! Sir, could I please trouble you for a photo?" Her hand reaches to clasp his sleeve ever so lightly. "i want to make as many fond memories tonight as possible!"
Rhys turned from where he had just been observing the ballroom. He smiled at Julia, looking from her to the soft plush. Awwww. “Yes, of course.” Him too.
He let himself be led to the photo-artifex. The unicorn was so cute he had to touch it. Rhys got slightly low and pressed his cheek to the unicorn’s cheek, beaming as the photo was snapped.
“Oooh, I think they turned out well. You look nice, by the way.” Rhys handed Julia her photos and he pet the plush’s back. “Would you like a stamp too? I’m happy to help.”

[ Muscle ] - for the photo, the sender and receiver pull back their sleeves to show off their rippling biceps (sigurd convincing him to do it perhaps?)
“Um… okay.” Rhys pulled back his sleeve and flexed, eyes on Sigurd’s arm. Rhys didn’t want to frown in the photo, but he did feel like it highlighted how little gains he had.
An idea struck him.
“Haha!” Rhys held up both of his arms so they were one on top of the other in the photo and flexed, laughing when the photo was taken. His two arms were slightly bigger than Sigurd’s one.
“Okay, I cheated, but I did have fun.” He patted Sigurd’s shoulder once. “After all, you wield Tyrfing for real. That thing’s so heavy, I’ll let you handle it.”

[ Lift ] - For the photo, the sender boldly lifts the receiver up in their arms. Whether or not they can hold them long enough for the photo may be another story…
Rhys yipped and flailed, camera catching him mid yell. Morgen held onto him tightly, but he still wasn’t used to anyone sweeping him off his feet. He caught his breath with a wheeze, exhilaration making his heart pound.
Their photos printed and he looked at the roll.
“Haha, hahaha! Look at the face it caught on me! Er, I do hope it’s alright. You look very strong in it.”
He held up his ring. “Would you like a stamp too?”

[ Dip ] — eager to show off his good side to rhys for once, sigurd pulls the priest into a slow but complicated jugdralian dance that he leads with a stubborn confidence. it ends with a dramatic dip of his partner to the floor, sigurd keeping rhys from falling with confidence with how little the man weighed to him. a boyish grin slowly reveals itself on his face. “i hope that wasn’t too much for you?”
Rhys was learning to adapt more and more to other country's dances. The Jugdrali dance was easy in his flowing outfit, but on an occasion or two he tried to go the wrong way and had to be steered by Sigurd to get back on track.
Still, he was definitely having fun. Rhys's face was slightly pink by the time Sigurd dipped him and he laughed with a slight yelp as he was dipped.
"It's great!" Rhys smiled back, heart lightened to see Sigurd so happy. Not so long ago, it seemed like Sigurd had been weighed down by so much in life. Eve if it was only for a ball, he was glad Sigurd could look so youthfully jubilant. His mood was contagious. Rhys sprang back up with more energy than he usually had.
"Thank you, Sigurd. You company is always welcome." Rhys held up his ring. "Oh, did you need a stamp? Memories don't have to have physical components, but it is nice."

obragi:
burn up the dance floor
He cares little for dancers. This has been how it is for years. He’s rebuked the tell-tale scent of perfume, the sounds of castanets, and the twirling of ribbons. Whenever he sees those signs, it always reminds him of an uncomfortable truth: of how many people his age are stolen from their homes and cradles and forced to submission. Dancing is not an art; it is a crime each and every time he’s seen it. It is a mark of failure of their society, and he cannot stomach knowing this.
But he cannot deny how watching Lene’s steps have the power to touch him. Where before he felt sick, it is for her dances alone that he feels differently. She tells him of how she uses her dances as a beacon, and he thinks with her, he can believe it is not a tool of misery but instead something that could be euphoric.
For her, he is willing to try to see what she means. He joins to help her out, her searching for a partner to enter but he is far from her level. He can feel the energy flowing through him, he knows something is working, something in his veins, but he cannot keep up with her. He puts his all into the steps, wishing to chase away the memories of all the annoyances of earlier tonight.
Dancing can be euphoric. Dancing can be joyous. Dancing can be more than misery.
“Coirpre? Son of Silvia and brother of Lene?”
But even as they finish, slipping out of the focus, his expression is a storm, quiet as he falls into step alongside Lene to leave.
“ Mm… Not as good as you. ”  They pass by Ethlyn and Rhys, and he at least conjures up enough manners to wish them,  “ Good luck. ”  // @prhyst @ladyleonster
Ethlyn was a graceful, beautiful partner. Rhys felt as though he was flying for some of their dance, a bright smile on his face. Although... maybe they should have practiced more.
For all his happiness at dancing, he also felt as though he had two left feet. He kept managing to barely not trip either of them up, but it felt like he was dancing splendidly one moment and then barely saving himself from a fall the next, feeling like a cat that fell off of furniture but managed to land on its feet, like it had meant to do that.
“Sorry!” he whispered. Ethlyn also seemed tense, and his first instinct was to blame himself. Being onstage didn’t help either.
When they finished, he glanced to the judges for a score.
Style: 9
Choreography: 9
Technique: 1
“Wow. Er, we did really good! Except, um, well I never actually tripped you, but I can be really clumsy sometimes.” Rhys smiled. “I’d be happy to get you refreshments to make up for it.”

prompt 2. groovin’ & movin’
After some time mingling with friends and discovering the new photo-artifexes, the students find their rhythm and eagerly wait for the music to start. The school’s orchestra briefly fills the room with a melodic cacophony of string instruments, deep clarinets and high flutes practicing important sections. Then, silence, before beginning the first of many pieces of the night.
The tune may be unfamiliar to most of you, even to the Fódlan students. Those from Archanea, however, may recognize the familiar melody of a timeless minuet from their continent. With the Officers Academy welcoming in students from all over the world, they have expanded their musical repertoire to include familiar dances for their international students to enjoy!

[ Lift ] - For the photo, the sender boldly lifts the receiver up in their arms. Whether or not they can hold them long enough for the photo may be another story…
"!" Flash.
Rhys shouldn't have been surprised that a student shorter than himself could easily lift him for a photo, espeically when it was someone like Petra who seemed to take training seriously. He laughed sheepishly, feet dangling. "Aha, sorry. I'm okay." She set him down and he marveled at her strength. "Wow, you're really strong."
The reel of pictures the machine spat out made it mostly look like Petra was holding Rhys up like he was a startled cat.
"Haha, how fun! Here, let me give you a stamp too to go with it."

[ Cheek ] - The sender kisses the receiver on the cheek for a cute photo.
Rhys didn't know that cheek kissing seemed to be a common greeting from Goldoa. Really, so few people knew much about the isolated dragon nation that he shouldn't be surprised to be learning new things.
He smiled, laughing slightly as the sensation. It was cute, although he didn't think he should tell the king of a foreign country that.
"Oh, these turned out so nice!" he gave Kurthnaga a string of photos. "You're so friendly, um, I mean, I get the feeling you really like social events. Me too! I lived in a small village when I was young, and I used to get so sick every season..."
He bashfully waved, realizing he'd picked the worst time to start rambling. "Oh, but I don't mean to keep you. Haha, um..." his eyes caught the sight of his own signet ring on his finger. "Oh! Sorry, I almost forgot a stamp!"

prompt 1. “foe-toes”
Tumblr media
In prior years, you had to rely on your own memories to recall the events of each ball (however well that went considering, well, the overarching situation…). Tonight, the Projectionist is determined to make that a thing of the past. In her pursuit to bring light magic to its true potential, she has developed a new invention: the photo-artifex! Magic and lenses work together to imprint light onto paper, creating a lasting black-and-white image of whatever it sees.
The machines themselves are less than portable, but there are several to take advantage of tonight. Most are set up in what she calls a “theater” kind of environment: one photo-artifex pointed at a background, with a table of props set up nearby for people to use in their “photos”. The wide space allows for multiple people to be in the photo at the same time, perfect for groups! For couples, however, the Projectionist insists that you try her “artifex-box”, a booth that fits only two people but allows each patron to take home a string of multiple photos.
Take a picture! Strike a pose!
[ Back hug ] - For the photo, the sender embraces the receiver from behind.
[ Bunny ears ] - The sender sneakily puts up two fingers behind the receiver’s head, making them look like they have bunny ears.
[ Cheek ] - The sender kisses the receiver on the cheek for a cute photo.
[ Dance ] - For the photo, the sender and receiver pose in a way that suggests they are in the middle of a dance.
[ Glamour ] - The sender struts their stuff, posing their body in… “interesting”, angular ways that show off their outfit.
[ Jump ] - For the photo, the sender and receiver try to time their jump so that the photo-artifex captures them in mid-air. Might take a few tries…
[ Laugh ] - Laughing makes for a natural smile, and so the sender tries to make the receiver laugh for the photo.
[ Lift ] - For the photo, the sender boldly lifts the receiver up in their arms. Whether or not they can hold them long enough for the photo may be another story…
[ Muscle ] - For the photo, the sender and receiver pull back their sleeves to show off their rippling biceps.
[ Secret ] - The sender leans in close to the receiver and hides their lips from the photo-artifex, suggesting a kiss between the two. Whether or not the sender actually does…
[ Smooch ] - The sender kisses the receiver on the lips for a romantic photo.
[ Spell ] - The sender and the receiver put their hands up in the air, posing in a way that spells out a word.
And any other pose you can think of!
Take a look at the props:
[ Unicorn ] - Unfortunately, no horses are allowed in the ballroom. The Projectionist has thoughtfully prepared a stuffed horse for prop purposes, sturdy enough for one small child to sit on without fearing for their life. A single horn adorns its forehead.
[ Meow ] - Headbands adorned with two cat ears, perfect for hissy felines in human suits.
[ Tinted Glasses ] - Oversized glasses with dark lenses and colorful frames. A little silly-looking.
[ 1180 Glasses ] - Oversized glasses with unique frames formed in the shape of the year “1180”.
[ Arrow ] - A blank white sign in the shape of an arrow pointing to your left. You can write all sorts of things on it, from “Best Girlfriend Ever” to “I’m With Stupid”.
And anything else you can find on the table!

Morgen stood behind a wall, watching the professor from her hiding spot. As he approached, she jumped out, startling him as she shoved a small piece of paper in his face.
"Hi, I sure hope I'm not wrong about this. But is this your note?"
WHAT MAKES YOU A GREAT DATE TO THE ETHEREAL BALL?  I’m really excited to see everyone at the ball! I get along with people, so I hope we’ll have a great time together.
"Ah!" Rhys leapt back when she leapt in front of him. In his startlement he clung to his heal staff and then relaxed with a laugh. "Haha, sorry. You got me."
He read the piece of paper and nodded with a smile. "Yes, that's mine. I think social events are fun. Er, I understand if you have a date, but we can dance at least once for sure!"

Rhys’s usual rounds in the post-class afternoons always included a pass by the greenhouse. His herbs certainly didn’t need tending to every single day, but he enjoyed stopping in and looking at all of the plants the community was growing.
On rough days, it was a quiet reminder that life still flourished. He needed the serenity that came with a few moments in the greenhouse.
At other times, he had actual work to do, and it was one of his favorite duties to sing or hum as he trimmed, re-potted, or watered plants.
Rhys smiled at the gardener as he stepped in. “Hello, always good to see you.”
He turned to Coirpre. He’d never seen the boy before, and that meant that he was about to make a new friend. “Oh, it’s nice to meet you. Are you a new student?” Rhys nodded to his corner of the greenhouse. “Er, I would really appreciate the help with transferring some of my herbs to larger pots, and maybe trimming some too if you don’t mind. It’s relaxing to tend to them, really.”
thumb of green
He hasn’t been here for very long, but without planning it, he had begun coming to the greenhouse every single day. When he comes again today, the usual attendant smiles at him.
“ Will you be tending to the plants today, young man? ”  she asks him.
To this, he shakes his head. He looks out at the vivid garden of crops and flowers as he does every day. These things… every time he sees them in their plenty, it always feels surreal. Like every time he steps into here, he is stepping into a dream.
“ I’m not interested in touching them. ”
“ Don’t be like that. Here, maybe all you need is a little help. Speaking of which, hello! ”  the gardener waves to the new person coming in.  “ Why don’t the two of you work together? ”

My Little Meow Meow ⁎ Luthier & Rhys
The Professor offers his name, and Luthier responds with a courteous smile - one aimed at him just as much as at the tabby cat resting peacefully in his arms. He feels a sting of confusion as Rhys comes closer to him, and a soft gasp of surprise escapes him when the priest hands over Bee; thankfully his arms and shoulders know instinctively what to do.
“It is an honor, Bee,” the Mage says quietly and gently, as the cat merely yawns. However, just as the Professor comments on it, the Mage can feel it - the soft vibration of a purring cat; and he cannot help but allow his smile to widen at the sensation. Slowly and carefully, to avoid causing his new acquaintance any discomfort, he sits back down on the bench.
“Oh, the cat treats? I mostly have ones with fish,” he explains as he pulls out his satchel again. Bee’s nose twitches, and Luthier does not need to be told twice; he produces a piece of food and brings it right to the animal’s mouth, so that he barely needs to move to eat it. Having accepted the offering, he returns to his nap, not ceasing the purring for even a moment.
“Heh… Anyway, my homeland is surrounded from all sides by a sea rife with fish of all kinds, and inhabited by many a skilled fisherman. We have… recently struggled with some drought and famine and the land has not yet fully recovered, so crops and farming can be an issue. However, the fish never run out.”
The struggles endured by many for years, to get something of value on their plates, goes unmentioned. Rough times though they were, surely they are over now, and everyone, humans and animals alike, can simply look forward and hope for a better life.
Luthier was formal even to a cat, and that endeared Rhys even more. He settled beside Luthier and continued to scratch behind Bee’s ears as the cat dozed, as tough it had no cares in the world.
“Fish are abundant here too.” Rhys didn’t think fishing was all that exciting, although sometimes watching students fish while he worked in the greenhouse was entertaining. He hadn’t ever thought of fishing to be like a contact sport, but the students could turn anything into a spectator’s event. “The cats love to gather by the docks, although some of them like soft grass to nap in in the gardens better.”
Drought, famine, a harsh life. Rhys remembered his childhood of struggling all too well. “I’m sorry,” he said, softly but earnestly. “Lean times are hard. Hm, but to be blessed with fish is something all of us benefit from.”
Bee stuck the tip of his tongue out while he purred, blepping as if in agreement.

All Questions , No Answers [+1 Faith Open]
Confident? He supposes that is true in this very moment; long has he felt timid, even when dispensing knowledge in his lectures… but he was a king once, and with good reason. “There is great strength within your heart,” his predecessor had told him upon his coronation, “you simply need to dig deep enough to draw upon it.”
Freyr nods and squares his shoulders. “Very well, then. Let us do our best.”
The moment he steps over the threshold of the gate, the crowd’s agitation swells. A nearby man points at the silverette and cries, “Demon! They have a demon in their midst! The church is hosting a demon!” At that, the furor in the air explodes; Freyr draws Rhys close to himself as the mob pelts them with various items and implements, raising his arm to shield the two of them.
This is not how I had hoped this would continue… though I should have prepared myself for the possibility considering laguz are nonexistent throughout the rest of Fódlan. Then… I am left without a choice. If the people become even more stirred up, this will devolve into a riot.
It takes him several deep breaths before he can steel his nerve and muster the courage to touch the space within where his dream power once resided… and slowly, creeping out, that old long-lived flame flickers back to life. He chokes in shock but reaches with his magic towards the crowd. At once, the frenzied air stills and quiets, and although no one appears to have fallen asleep, the crowd exudes a greater sense of calm. Freyr breathes a sigh of relief. It seems to be working… for now, at any rate.
Rhys didn’t like hiding behind others, even though his frailty demanded it. However, when they approached the top of the stairs to look down at the crowd, he let Freyr pull him to his side and duck as a few items flew through the air at them. Rocks, a heel of bread, and somehow a gull came flying up at them and Rhys yelped, face scrunched with worry.
Whatever Freyr could do, he hoped it would be enough.
It was.
Rhys raised his head once the onslaught of objects and bird stopped. He surveyed the lulled crowd with wonder, stepping out from behind Freyr.
Right. He had a situation to smooth over.
“Um, everyone...” his voice sounded weak over the hushed crowd. He swallowed hard, glancing at Freyr and then back at everyone else. Rhys tried to steady himself, breathing deeply and getting into his usual preaching tone, asking his voice to carry further than it usually needed to. “We wish to offer all who come to the monastery peace and wise counsel. These events of late are beyond what the church has ever dealt with before. We will do all we can to investigate and get you answers, but for now, we all need to watch out for each other more than ever. Please, let us serve you as best we can, and remain orderly so no one is hurt.”
Little by little, the crowd seemed to stir, talking to each other in softer tones and seeking out a few priests, but thankfully without the shouting and shoving.
Rhys sighed deeply, rubbing his forehead. “Thank you. I, um, I think they’re fine now.”

all the world’s a stage [Pelleas & Rhys]
Once upon a time, Rhys had been just another face in the roster of the Greil Mercenaries— another fighting underneath the banner of Empress Sanaki’s faction— another coming for Pelleas’s head as it stood between them and the Begnion Senate.
How strange it is to see a man’s face and associate it with the coming of death, the man whose forces you must force back, to now be genuinely thanking him and praising him with a smile to rival that of the sun.
Pelleas doesn’t know what to do at first. Should he smile in return? Should he say, ’You’re welcome’? Or is that too arrogant?
“ You!!!! Pelleas! ”  one of the faculty members leading the play effort calls out, face red when they come storming up.  “ I thought I instructed you to paint this set! What are you doing, dawdling?! And this line—!!! ”  They point to the long streak he had erroneously drawn in his initial surprise to Rhys’s presence.  “ You’re not going to just LEAVE it like that, are you?! ”
Cringing at being scolded at even at this age, he nods and picks up the paint brush again, resuming his painting before the play director runs off, going to inspect how the other preparations were doing. Pelleas at last turns back to Rhys, guiltily, but his fear of being reprimanded again does not slow his hand.
“ I-I’m sorry. I’m sure you have your own things to do, and I really should finish this… ”
Silence hung in the moment between them until it was broken by another.
Rhys paled and worriedly waved as the faculty member berated Pelleas. They were right, it did have that large streak of paint drawn down the center, but it was so mean... “No, please, listen he’s working very hard, it was my fault,” Rhys insisted, but his voice wavered and cracked, unable to be heard over the scolding.
“Er, I do have things to do.” Rhys nodded, shy again. “Thank you for chatting, I, um. I think everyone has something to give, some value to this world. It doesn’t matter if anyone else sees it, but they have it.”
He walked away, secondhand embarrassed for being scolded even if he personally hadn’t painted that blotch of color.
Rhys thought about his parting words to Pelleas and wondered which of them needed to hear that more.

Rhys loved the monastery cats, and he stood watching a new student feed and pet one with a radiant smile on his face. It was so cute. He was glad to meet someone else cared for them too.
“Oh, it’s okay!” Rhys laughed softly, bashful at being bowed to. “They’re loving, once you get to know them. If Socksy, that white cat, likes you, that’s good enough for me.” Rhys was holding an armful of amber tabby cat himself. He nodded to the cat dozing in his arms. “This is Bee. I’m Rhys, and I teach faith here. I’m not very formal or anything- er, I mean I hope I’m polite, but you can relax. It’s nice to meet you too!”
He was rambling a bit, but it was from a cheery mood. Rhys hugged Bee and then gently set Bee in Luthier’s arms. The cat sat like a dead weight, only yawning as he transferred nap spots. “He’s very lazy, but quite friendly.”
Rhys scratched Bee behind his ears and he grinned. “Awww… I think he’s purring! He likes you! I saw you have some cat treats- me too! What are yours made from?” Rhys knelt slightly to be at eye level with Bee as he pet the cat, and looked back up at Luthier while he spoke.
My Little Meow Meow ⁎ Luthier & Rhys
@prhyst
Before his departure, Luthier promised Whiskers that, no matter what, he could never, ever be replaced in his heart.
However, as the Mage finds a vacant bench in the sunlight and sits down with a few books, he cannot help but feel the glaring lack of a warm, soft, purring furry friend to invite onto his lap and discuss the intricacies of magic with as they enjoy simply being, keeping each other company…
It is a deficiency that demands at the very least a temporary substitute; and luckily for Luthier, it would seem that the monastery and the immediate area around it are not devoid of the potential candidates.
“Why, hello there. You are looking most radiant today,” he says softly, extending his hand towards a pure white kitty. The animal approaches him with some interest, but a mild one at best at the moment. That is fine - trust and friendship are built slowly, that much Luthier knows.
How about a show that he is worth the attention, for starters? Walking with a small satchel of cat treats on him at all times, the Zofian is always ready to offer payment for the privilege of touching the soft fur. Producing a piece, he offers it to the pet. A second later, it is snatched from his hand; slowly, his fingers wander over in between the cat’s ears, giving its head a gentle scratch, and earning a rub in return.
Perfection!
He chuckles softly as he pets the cat for a moment, before it rubs against him one more time and then takes its leave. “Thank you very much for your time. I hope to see you around,” Luthier says with a nod, waving goodbye to the animal.
Only then does he note that there is one of the Academy’s teachers standing next to him.
“Ah— My apologies, Professor,” he utters quickly, standing up and bowing in greeting. How could he miss the teacher’s arrival like that, where are his manners? (With the cat, is where.) “I got… somewhat absorbed. The pets of the monastery are simply exquisite. Such noble creatures.”
It is only then that he remembers that, with how new he is to the Academy, his name might not yet be known to the Professor. Right. With his hand on his chest, he offers one more bow, a shorter one this time.
“Ahem… Luthier Corvinus. I arrived mere days ago. It is a pleasure.”

an adrenaline filled kiss shared after committing a crime watching Rhys win his battle.
"I can't believe you actually did that!" Kurth ran up to his dear friend, filled with an overbrewing excitement that he hadn't felt in a great many years.
"You did so good!" Before he could stop himself, he found his own lips on Rhys'.
"Ah! Sorry, I just got excited!" He felt his face flush darkly. He stared quietly at his friend, waiting for some form of response. Was he going to be upset with him?
Rhys was always accepting of hugs and he let Kurthnaga embrace him with a smile. He was so impressive that a dragon was proud of him? That felt like too high an honor, but Rhys certainly didn't mind, face growing warm.
"R-really? I suppose I did."
Kurthnaga's lips found his and Rhys smiled with surprise, laughing when they parted.
"Ahaha, sorry! We keep bumping into each other like this."
