Kpop opinion from a former stan that no one asked for
Kpop used to take western samples and then modify it since a long time ago but now its just the western samples sung partly in Korean and mostly in English, they don't even put the effort for putting in sounds and instruments to make it sound more like Korean pop.
I have argued with second and third gen stans against this in almost every comment section, but for 4th and 5th gen stans I do have to say that a lot of your faves can't sing live and dance simultaneously and NO its not okay, its the basic requirement to be an idol. Otherwise, you're just a backup dancer and not idol.
Echoing the first opinion, the only 4th gen boygroup that actually has been consistent in delivering a beautiful discography has been TXT. For others, I can mute the sound and just watch them dance and it won't make much difference.
If intense choreos are the issue, then they could just tone down a bit with the choreos and then make their artists perform LIVE. Older groups like Mamamoo, BTOB, and Winner-YG groups in general focus more on performing LIVE and vibe with the audiences and tbh that looks a lot better than groups just grinding that intense choreo and losing breath.
Le Sserafim have a really enjoyable discography but when it comes to live performance artists, Source Music has downgraded a lot considering they started with GFriend.
Since I brought up Source Music, I'd say HYBE should have delayed girlgroup debuts by a couple of years coz these girlies still need training on live performances. The boygroups tho *chefs kiss*
Girlgroup discographies have saved the 4th generation of Kpop. Hoping for boygroup discographies to have the same upgrade. TWS discography gives me hope even though they just debuted.
Groups like NMIXX, ITZY and G-Idle don't fall into the categories I mentioned above. Those babes can blast their mics with vocals AND shake that leg simultaneously.
The obsession with noise music needs to go. Not everyone can do it properly. Plus we don't need to hear the same kind of bass boosted music for every other Kpop group. Bring the diversity back.
The only company that kinda knows what they are doing with the noise music genre is SM Entertainment.Even though NCT songs are either hit or miss, atleast I can tell they aren't lazy about it and are methodically experimenting with the sound. SM might be shitty about a lot of things but they're serious when it comes to music.
Coming to SME, the management has messed up with things a lot of times and idk what changed but they've taken a few good decisions so far- like, Lucas solo debut, putting Sungtaro into RIIZE where they can individually grow as artists rather than being extensions of NCT,throwing away the idea of NCT Hollywood, debuting an entire unit of NCT instead of 1 or 2 members and doing it through a survival show for more exposure of the members, putting a stop to the avengers group concept etc. Now only if they could bring Seunghan back to RIIZE.
'Self-producing' worked for Seventeen coz their producer is Woozi. A lot of kpop groups are better off having actual composers and producers preparing songs for them.

Chemistry between actors was amazing, but the storyline tho... in KDrama
Kang Sora as Oh Hara and Jung Seungjo as Goo Eun Beom in Strangers Again: the story ruined everything
Tumblr media
Lee Jaewook as Baek Kyung and Kim Hye Yoon as Eun Dan Oh in Extraordinary You:only if Baek Kyung wasn't written as a red flag by the manhwa writer
Tumblr media
Jeon Doyeon as Gil Bok Soon and Koo Kyo hwan as Han Hee Seong in Kill Bok Soon: the storyline was good for a crime thriller but unfortunate for them
Tumblr media
Moon Sangmin as Lee Jihan and Jeon Jong Seo as Na Ah Jung in Wedding Impossible :they get happy ending but the storyline was messy imo
Tumblr media
Lee Jaewook as Han Tae Oh and Choi Hee Jin as Kang Hee Joo in The Impossible Heir : yall know why. Everything in this drama was messed up except the chemistry between these two actors
Tumblr media
Ki Do Hoon as Yangcha and Kim Ji Won as Tanya in Arthdal Chronicles: basically Kim Ji Won has chemistry with everyone she acts alongside
Tumblr media
Lee Jae In as Lee Yoon Seo and Cha Woo Min as Ko Kyung Jun in Night Has Come: honestly I didn't even consider them before I saw all those edits on YT
Tumblr media
Go Youn Jung as Jung Jisoo and Seo In Guk as Kim Seong Hyeop in Death's Game: even the smallest moments between them was enough to establish how beautiful chemistry they had
Tumblr media
Lee Dohyun as Go Chang Myung and IU as Jang Man Wol in Hotel Del Luna: one of the best pairings in a KDrama to exist

Ryu Shi Oh: Unforgettable from Start to Finish
Ryu Shi Oh. Good, bad, should he have ended up with Nam Soon, was their chemistry better? Did everyone love him just because Byun Woo Seok played(read slayed) the character? Let's leave that debate for a while. He was the most well written character of the series from start to finish. For me what's memorable is his equation with Nam Soon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even after she betrayed him, he probably loathed himself for trusting her than actually hating her. But what I can't forget is that he shot himself while maintaining eye contact with her from start till the end.
It was like, "I'm keeping my end of the bargain for you by surrendering. But I will go down on my own terms."
https://pin.it/6f3QTlhTr
From his P. O.V,it was just these two.

This will probably get me crucified by the Kpop stans:
4th generation of Kpop is the most boring generation of Kpop. Yeah, they're very skilled and hardworking. There have been some bops occassionally here and there, but boring.
And it pains me to say this as a bg stan but, most of those bops were from girlgroups. Idk, I'm not against noise music. But some of,actually a lot of groups aren't serving us much in the name of some bass boosted sounds.
And why all of yall gotta do more or less the same concept?
And it's one thing to use English demo and converting it into Kpop song. But the westernification has got to the point that songs don't sound anything like signature Kpop.
2nd generation and 3rd generation left some very big shoes to fill in. They don't make legends like BigBang,EXO,BTS,Mamamoo anymore.
Like, there are good looking and talented idols but we don't have icons of the generation. Stray Kids- all rounder members, Ateez- they tear up the stage with their performances, TXT- one of the very few boygroups in gen 4 that has 'like at first listen' songs. But they're all more or less on the same level. There's none iconic. Good but they lack the factor to make you lose yourself in their perfomances(EXO,SHINee), or make you jump to their every beat (BigBang,2ne1) or give you goosebumps when they perform(SNSD).

Thank you @tristan91sworld and everyone who got me to 1000 reblogs!
Lee Do Hyun in 'Sweet Home' was phenomenal
Tumblr media
Lee Do Hyun in '18 Again' was emotional
Tumblr media
Lee Do Hyun in Youth of May was worth swooning
Tumblr media
Yet, nothing cuts deeper than Lee Do Hyun in Hotel del Luna
Tumblr media
P.S: Didn't find any '18 again' tag, so used '17 again' tag.

I think I need to change my number 4 opinion now.
Song Kang needs the right character, the right co-actor and the right script- all 3. Dramas like Love Alarm and Forecasting Love and Weather highlighted the female leads' aspects more. While he was meant to be the red flag in Nevertheless.
My Demon served me everything that I've been missing since 2016 in Korean romcoms.
My controversial Kdrama opinions
1. Ko Moon Young was just a psychologically messed up girl. She isn't the 'girlpower' or 'badass' that the Kdrama fandom likes to dub her into.
2. In 'Hotel del Luna', they could've just chucked the entire character of Gu Chansung out of the window and gave Chang Myung a rebirth/rebirths,make him go through various trials and tribulations to repent and earn Man Wol's forgiveness. Didn't have to make it unnecessarily tragic.
3. Unnecessarily tragic reminds me, the 'realistic' ending of 2521 was a JOKE. There was NO point of developing such a power couple if they were to break up for such a mundane reason.
4. Romance genre isn't Song Kang's 'thing'. He shines better as an actor in non-romance genres.
5. Had they focused on developing Ju Kyung as an individual character who finally learns how to completely take a stand for herself instead of dangling her between Suho and Seojun, 'True Beauty' would've become a more popular and appreciated drama.
6. The love line between Hwang InYeop and Seo Hyun Jin's character in 'Why her: Oh Soo Jae' was absolutely unnecessary and awkward.
7. Jo Bo Ah and Ahn Bo Hyun and an amazing chemistry in 'Military Prosecutor: Do Bae Man'. However, they could've developed a slowburn romance between them instead of abruptly putting a kiss sequence in the last episode out of nowhere.
8. In 'Snowdrop', Eun Young Ro forgiving Soo Ho later on didn't make sense. Their kiss sequence was purely fan service, nothing else.
9. Individual acting aside,Kim Hye Yoon had more chemistry with Lee Jae Wook(2nd lead) than Rowoon(main lead) in 'Extraordinary You'.
10. Writers are overusing 'Let's kill off the main character and make the show tragically memorable' trope wayyy too much.
11. As much as it physically hurts me given the chemistry of the actors,Choi Do Il and Oh In Joo not having any proper romantic sequence till the end of 'Little Women' makes sense to the storyline(the shipper me might've wanted a hug though).
12. Also the writers should stop doing the 'lets make the second lead better than the main lead'. Its annoying to see one person actually making sincere effort for the girl but the girl ends up totally ignoring their effort and like the ML. Not in just Kdramas but in all sorts of dramas. I actually saw a Chinese drama where the second lead finally turned into a villain. I LITERALLY commented 'good for him' lmao.
13. Sunho in 'Cheer Up' is problematic. Neither his sad backstory nor his sincere feelings for Haeyi changes that fact.
14. The Heirs(2013) drama wasted an opportunity to pair Young Do(Kim Woobin) with Yoo Rachel(Kim Jiwon). No, they didn't need to be 'siblings'. I'd have chosen the two heartbroken yet sassy and tough people romance over the sappy romance of the main couple in a heartbeat. And the actors would've NAILED it.
15. Jojo not ending up with Sunho in 'Love Alarm' finally broke the 'Cinderella and Prince Charming' fairytale trope of Kdramas. That girl was too messed up in the head . She didn't need the rich, fierce and impulsive lover, but the quite, patient and thoughtful one. So don't go ahead and say the ending sucked. Maybe they could've made things more coherent, but no the ending didn't suck.
16. Moon Dong Eun should have remained single, with the last episode ending with him crossing paths with Do Yeong, with Yeonjin & gang & all the revenge agenda gone, she could hv offered him a smile and a game of Go, keeping an open ending for them. Lee Do Hyun was fabulous in playing Yeojeong and their chemistry was amazing. But they could hv just been partners in crime with their teamwork without the romantic plot between them.
17. No. Ryu Shi Oh doesn't give second lead syndrome. Byun Woo Seok is a very good actor but he plays the villain in 'Strong Woman Kang Nam Soon' and not anti-hero. Lee Yoo Mi and him should be paired opposite to e/o in some other project in the future but Shi Oh and Nam Soon ain't the 'enemies to lovers' you think it is.

Unpopular opinion but Bitch x Rich was actually a good drama. It totally debunks the myth of "Rich people are the bad guys and poor ones are the good guys" and turns it into "Good and bad are all perceptive". I was also pleasantly surprised that this wasn't a webtoon adaptation or something. Hope it gets another season.

Its really common when you read any romance novel or fanfic, to find a line that says,"His heart skipped a beat." But I have seen actors portraying the emotion only twice in the dramaland.
1)True Beauty: Seojun and Jukyung
Tumblr media
The bus stop scene in epi 9 where Seojun sees Jukyung dozing off at the bus stop, he laughs and sits beside her. Soon after, Jukyung's head falls on his shoulder. And with Hwang Inyeop's impeccable acting- the slight movement of his eyebrows and eyeball getting larger, that this was the moment Seojun's heart skipped a beat.
2) Tere Bin: Murtasim and Meerab
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, I didn't get the exact GIF for this scene
In episode 20 of this drama, while having a conversation about their situation, Murtasim suddenly felt a twitch in his injured arm and gasped slightly. Upon noticing, Meerab put her hand over his hand and asked if that hurt- initiating a physical contact voluntarily for the very first time. Surprised and astonished Murtasim looked at her in awe. Wahaj Ali's expression for the particular scene was stellar. With him lifting his eyes, gazing at her softly while taking a gulp down his throat it was so clear that his heart skipped a beat.

Kpop fandom opinions that I still find ridiculous
WayV isn't NCT
Okay,in their defense, XioYangDery didn't make their official debut in NCT U lineup yet and they debuted under Label V instead of SM Entertainment but...the rest of the five members were LITERALLY NCT members! And its definitely NCT's concept to add up new members and form a new unit. And their first ever release was LITERALLY the Chinese version of REGULAR!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣
Well,I guess this debate prevailed till the NCT 2020 Resonance album release. Anyways, listen to 'Phantom' by WayV:
youtube
Chen mistreated during EXO LoveShot era
The choreo. I think they changed it up a bit now but when Love Shot just released, Jongdae enters the stage to join the members a couple of seconds later as Baekhyun's intro is over and he has to sing his part. I remember netizens went mad with rage how Chen was being ignored and asking for justice and what not like...relax. It's just a choreo. A group member joining the stage a few seconds later isn't a blasphemy! Lol I wonder if the same bunch people rooted for him after his news of marriage and kids got out.
Meanwhile, let's listen to Last Scene by our vocal king:
youtube
Step Back by GOT The Beat has misogynistic lyrics
This topic was all over the internet but like....I watched the lyrics video,I googled the lyrics and what I deduced was one girl asking another girl to back off of her man since the latter girl is definitely throwing herself over him while he's engaged to the former. I mean...y'all literally read webtoons, watch dramas and movies of the same plot and then go,"Yas girl!! You tell her!!"
Tumblr media
But somehow this song was...'misogynistic'??? Well, yeah coz such women exist. Girl power isn't necessarily just girls supporting girls. But it's also girls standing up to and busting girls who cross their line.
Well, the SMCU performance queens came back with 'Stamp On it'. Let's watch it together:

After Seojun's schedule was over, he turned his phone on only to find a voice message from Jukyung.
"Seojun-ah,yahh Han Seojun! Why did you have to fall in love with me when I was swept up by Suho? Why did I have to fall in love with you when you weren't just my buddy Seojun anymore but superstar Han Seojun? How can I be close to a star when I'm so plain and ordinary? I can only look at you from afar now and wish you were mine. Back when I had a chance to be with you, I took it for granted. And now things turned out like this. You loved me too early, I loved you too late. Why did the timing have to be so wrong? How do I get over this now?"
