Hi, Journal.
Today is the last day of 2022. New Year’s Eve. December 31st.
I thought I would stop by and say goodbye to it with you.
Last year for my sendoff, I did a sort of self-indulgent reflection of my time with you. A lot happened this year, too. But—and this is my bad—I haven’t been there with you when all of it happened.
Just a really quick recap. There were a lot of ups and downs, which it made it difficult to keep up with the Entries. But a lot of it was good. I went on a cross country road trip with my friend. (I helped her move from SoCal to New England!) There was a supplementary trip in New England with our third roommate later on in the year as well. (All for fun, no moving). I got a new job. And the thing that I’m most proud of is that my long-standing friendships have deepened.
We’ve all grown as people this year. And even if you don’t think you have, rest assured, even a little improvement is still improvement. Even if you don’t see it, it’s there. I believe in you.
I probably won’t end up doing any recap episode/entries, since I want to be looking forward. And that’s something that I can hope for everyone to keep the good memories and internalize our lessons learned. And we keep that to improve and move forward into the future.
Thank you for being here for me and with me. I hope to grow along with everyone in 2023.
Happy New Year!

Hi, Journal.
It’s September 9, 2022.
I’m here with another entry, so I can tell you one good thing that happened to me today. So here is my daily log, in an effort to see the good in my life and put out some good vibes along the way.
There are a couple of good things that happened today, but the one that I feel most strongly about happened at work yesterday and today. I’ve been planning to go on this vacation for about two months. (At the very least this has been in the works for one month.) I had asked my approval for vacation leave from my boss a while back. Little did either of us know, some unfortunate chips would fall at some unfortunate timing. Apparently in about a week both full-time employees would be leaving medical staff services department. And I had just come back from another medical leave, also out of my control. So going on this vacation next week, my boss is a little upset. I felt really bad about it, not because of actually leaving. With the improvements that happened in that department, I don’t believe that I would be a suitable candidate to cover anything there anymore. The vacation is still nonnegotiable for me because this involves a lot of planning from my friends and myself. My friend is a resident and needed to have taken time off request way in advance. My other friend just started their new job and asked for time off, which is a bad look. we’ve planned a lot and already financially booked a lot. I’ve known them for 11 years and I am not going to be canceling on them and jeopardize that long-standing friendship like that. I felt bad that my boss might think less of me, or be disappointed in me, for things that I was letting the team down for leaving anyways despite all of the above. So I really needed to talk to my boss today about all of that, and I mustered up the courage to do so. Even though I don‘t think I got everything I wanted to tell her across, and convey all of these deep feelings, I think she got the gist. I told her specifically about feeling bad about possibly her thinking that I let the team down, and she said she would never think that way. I know she is still rather upset that I’m leaving anyway, but I feel better about having talk to her about it. And if she still feels bad, unfortunately, that is also out of my hands. And then I told her about my feelings about going to the other place and not really being of help to that department any longer. So hopefully if I do end up needing to go and cover some aspects of the department the expectations or hope that I can do a good job there can be tapered a little bit to something more reasonable.
Talk to you next time.

If you haven't heard, it's been boiling here in California. It's been consistently 100+ degrees Fahrenheit. But it's finally tapering down today! In the morning, it even rained. It was a nice drive, even though it was trafficky, because I could smell the petrichor and feel the coolness of the water. It did get really humid and stuffy when it did end up getting to the middle of the day and 100ish degrees, but the morning was really nice.

Hi, Journal.
It’s September 2, 2022.
I’m here with another entry, so I can tell you one good thing that happened to me today. So here is my daily log, in an effort to see the good in my life and put out some good vibes along the way.
I'm going to be dogsitting for a friend this weekend, so I went to his place to get handoff. (Basically get info on the lay of the land, specific dog instructions, keys to the house, etc.) I've been to his place before, just briefly, so Lucky knows me sort of. She's an old gal, so I hope she remembers me. She was pretty friendly today, so hopefully she'll remember me tomorrow, especially when none of her humans are around.
Tumblr media
We then went to Kohl's, because my friend needed to return something. Walking into the store, we were brainstorming ideas on what to get for our mutual friend's birthday gift. When we were wandering around, we accidentally saw a perfect item.
Tumblr media
We were so happy because we had no idea this game even existed, so it was completely a bout of cosmic serendipity. It's basically an inside joke/reference to some fond memories of our Christmas party last year, where we all played several games of Uno and she could just not stop winning. It was really funny because she comes off as both smart and savvy, like with it, but also incredibly slow and ditzy a lot of the other times. So her just being strangely good at this one thing was so funny to everyone back then. And we still talk about it every so often now, as a funny reference to her secret ninja skill set. It brought back fond memories, and we're so excited to give it to her.
And it was even more fortuitous because my friend had received a $5 Kohl's Cash coupon for returning some items. He gets really good coupons every so often due to his frequent returns, and he gets excited about getting those coupons, but rarely cashes them in. So he joked that he would purposely find a $5 or $6 item during this visit so he can finally use one of the coupons. And this Dos pack was it. The price tag on this was $6.69, so we only paid $1.69, which is also almost dos dollars!! It was all so perfect and funny. Can't make this up.
Talk to you next time, and probably have some dogsitting good things to share.

I got a new computer setup today! It took me a couple hours to get it how I wanted it to look, but I'm pretty happy with it. It's definitely an upgrade from my previous set up, which was a single monitor and a place to plug in a laptop. Now I can plug in my laptop to one of the two monitors, and have it plugged into my desktop generally! My next goal is to get a KVM switch so I can just have everything plugged in and switch between the two setups with ease.

Hoo, boy. A lot has happened since I've been away. Long story short, I thought I caught COVID, but it turns out I was just sick!! :)
So nothing really happened between my last entry and this one, up until Tuesday. My coworker informed me that she tested positive for COVID-19 and had exposed me. This was, like, my 5th COVID scare of the year, so I wasn't super worried. (This was absolutely hubris and for sure jinxed me.) For whatever reason, my home kit test on Tuesday afternoon came out positive. It looked kinda weird, not like normal. Once I put in the sample, the liquid turned pink immediately, and I got a bad feeling. Then it ended up reading positive. And this coincided with it being Day 4 since the last exposure to my coworker, and some mild sore throat. I went home and developed some mild-to-moderate fatigue/muscle weakness, and my sore throat worsened. So I thought I had COVID for real. Wednesday was just spent....napping. Being tired and napping. Symptoms starting improving with generic Dayquil and Nyquil, so I was just out light a light for the last day, day and a half. But it was really confusing because I took two home kit tests Tuesday night, and both came back negative! And I did on Wednesday night and that one was positive!! So what was the truth?? So, I took a PCR test Wednesday morning. The results came back negative today! So I was just sick! Yay?
Talk to you next time.

I got my mosquito catcher today!! I'm really excited for this because I've been getting mosquito bites lately. One night, a few weeks ago, I spotted a mosquito in my room. I had a sleepless night worrying about that thing biting me. Well, good for me, my worries were vindicated. I--no exaggeration--woke up with 21 mosquito bites. That guy really went to town on my body. It was awful. It kinda slowed down lately, but I just got 10 more bites this week. So I bit the bullet and invested in this thing and I really, really hope it works!!!

I usually hate asking anyone for anything. (It's, admittedly, a futile effort to seem self reliant and not needing to bother/trouble anyone.) I definitely hate asking my boss for time off. I feel like I'm being truant or a bad employee for not being there 24/7 or something. I always have to hype myself up to ask for time off. But I did it today! I made myself a Monopoly "chance" card and asked her. It only took 2 weeks of "waiting for the right time" and hyping myself up, but I did it, and she agreed!! Huzzah.

I accomplished a lot of my goals today, which was mostly weekly chores and other periodic chores. Among that list of accomplishments, the task that I'm most proud of is that I woke up early to go on a run. I slept a little late so I ended up waking up later than I wanted. I was so close to just calling it off. But I dragged myself out of bed, got ready for my run as fast as possible, and actually did it! And I finished it just in time to meet up with my friends, and we walked to Açaí Joint for breakfast.
Talk to you next time.

Hi, Journal.
It’s August 13, 2022.
I’m here with another entry, so I can tell you one good thing that happened to me today. So here is my daily log, in an effort to see the good in my life and put out some good vibes along the way.
Today, I hung out with my friend, and she did my nails! She had been struggling with the bad habit of biting her nails, so she's gotten into painting her nails to help curb that habit. We really had a bonding moment at the start of that journey; I confided to her that I also have used painting my nails to curb a bad habit of fiddling with my nails or picking at my face. To date, she's been so successful, and I am so unabashedly proud of her!!!
She's collected quite a bit of nail paraphernalia as a result. A lot of it has been stuff to do gel nails, and she was like, "Can I do your nails one day?" and so today was that day. She even did homework and planned out preliminary designs, which were both cute, and I could choose which set I liked more. And when I went over, she even had a whole nail set up in her room so we can either talk and/or watch TV, etc. This was all was super touching to see. I appreciated all that effort and consideration.
And she did so well!! She free-handed everything today, and honestly really improved her designs, execution, planning, etc., even as she was doing the nails, in real time! And they look so cute!! It really makes me want to buy a cute, matching bathing suit. :)
Tumblr media
So, Extra Servings under the cut, since...basically it's all food from here, and I keep saying this isn't a food blog. (🤣)
Talk to you next time.
So after the nail session, she made us affogato for dessert, which we ate while watching The Lost City (2022) on Paramount+.
Tumblr media
We went to go eat dinner afterwards at her current favorite sushi place. We met up with a mutual friend, who drove us to the restaurant. Per our usual M. O., we got too excited and accidentally(?) ended up getting too much food. Our individual bill ended up being about $100... That's the most I've ever paid for a single meal, but the experience and bonding we had during that time was really nice. The waitress accidentally brought us the wrong drink and ended up comping us the right one, which was nice of her!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then when we were walking around to stop being so full, we stopped by the Apple store just to look around. Then the goodest, most absolute unit-est of a boi walked in, and trumped everything else in the store. We were so distracted!
Tumblr media
We left soon after, and serendipitously found a franchise store of my current favorite tea place! It's a soft opening, so all drinks were 25% off, which was super cool. We got 3 of my favorite drink. I'm glad I got to get my favorite drink from there, since every time I go back, I try to get something different to try a bunch of different stuff. And the other two really liked it! (I hope?)

The “bats can do calculus” thing is funny, because if you play around with synths for a while, you realize a lot of what humans perceive as “natural” sounds are just us directly perceiving certain complex mathematical things as big gestalt gestures. Like recognizing a multiplied wave as sounding like a woodwind. Hearing individual notes within a chord is basically Fourier analysis. Feeling how naturally a note decays is perceiving how linear or exponential the curve is. The fact that a sine wave sounds smooth but a sawtooth wave sounds nasally, and a square wave has a certain hollow fuzz to it. Is someone doing “math” there? Once you get the flavor of what each of those qualities are like, listening to the world becomes like directly perceiving math. Also, listening to birds becomes very strange. Because you realize some goofy easy weird sound you can squelch out of an analog synth is the same thing a bird is doing. Then sometimes they make a sound you can’t make. What kind of math is that bird on? Makes you wonder.

Hi, Journal.
It’s August 10, 2022.
I’m here with another entry, so I can tell you one good thing that happened to me today. So here is my daily log, in an effort to see the good in my life and put out some good vibes along the way.
Today was a fun day! It was my boss' birthday, and I worked really hard to try and make her happy. She's a suuuuuper picky person, and her interests are very specific, so it's really difficult to get her to eat anything. I'm sure she's happy participating through hovering, but it's not the same. Like, if it's birthday festivities, which is mostly centered on food, and everyone is gathered and happy, and she doesn't eat anything, it's a little sad and lonely. BUT THEN ONCE YOU GET HER, once you get the foods/stuff she likes, and she looks really happy, like a little kid at Christmas, and you know you've pleased a hard to please person, and you can just see how she's just happy in her own little thing...It's a really rewarding feeling. So I've always endeavored to try and make her feel appreciated, but also have her feel like she's able to join in with everyone else. So today, I worked really, really hard to coordinate everything.
Pardon me, but this will be a sort of self-indulgent victory lap. (Please skip.)
I gave her a Star Wars/Mandalorian waffle maker. She and her husband loves Star Wars. It ties into that, and it's also fun for the whole family! And it ties into one of my previous gifts for her. For her baby shower, I got her a Baby Yoda/Mandalorian baby milestone blanket. (Which I ALSO tried really hard with and put a lot of thought into it.) She ended up really, really, liking it. She had the sweetest, excited face on. She said she couldn't wait to make waffles for her kids.
I gave her a Starbucks gift card, since we just talked about how she was sad she couldn't keep going to Starbucks anymore, since the costs were adding up, and she had to budget for one of her kid's special classes. So yay for that!
Related to that, I told a coworker that it was her birthday, and he asked what she would want as a drink from Starbucks. I told him that she already had two coffees, so she should get another one of her regular drinks, the pink drink. She saw it and was like, "Ooh, my favorite!" She looked happy, since she forgot it was her birthday and couldn't leave work just to get her free birthday drink.
My other coworker and I went to get her a birthday cake, and I tried really hard to get her a cake that she would like. She's only likes, like, 3 things, and there can't be ANYTHING on it. (Last year, I got her a chocolate cake, and there was ONE strawberry on it, and she wouldn't touch it. It was labeled as "unsafe." So that's an in-joke word now, haha.) So today, I got her a mini/individual red velvet cake and asked the worker to give me one without any toppings. Luckily, they had one that hadn't had any fruit put on it yet!
We then stopped by Dollar Tree to get a Happy Birthday balloon.
I got some other cards that were signed by the rest of the hospital staff, and I got my boss' boss and some other coworkers to give everything to my boss.
Big boss seemed really busy and needed to go, and unluckily, my boss had her door closed because she was dealing with a dissatisfied patient. But Big Boss stayed, and we were all able to give her everything, so it was super meaningful.
My boss is the type of person to say she's really busy--which she absolutely is, juggling nearly 3.5 jobs--so she'll come celebrate with people, then leave pretty quickly. So she does prefer things to be quick. And she does get embarrassed/uncomfortable, especially if it's for her and a lot of people's attention is directed on her. (Like on her birthday for example.) So getting her a small cake and bringing everything to her for a quick but meaningful celebration was a double win.
Boss' stamp of approval received!!! She seemed happy and surprised with everything. Success!!
So then you really to get as you receive. Somehow during all of that, another coworker gave me a blazer that wouldn't fit her, and it was a frickin' Madewell blazer!! And the Starbucks coworker also got me a Starbucks Mocha Oreo Frapp. So it really just goes around and comes around, circle of life, hakuna matata. Amazing. Giving, in itself, and seeing how happy my boss had gotten, was already really fun. And to get more on top of it was a surprise extra. I'm hoping to keep paying it forward, keep sending out good vibes, and keep this good karma going.
Today was really good!!!
Talk to you next time.

I keep saying this isn't a food blog, but here I am again. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
But, okay, to be fair to me, it's because a coworker got me a horchata! I haven't had one of those drinks in so long, so it was really good. I'm sure it was just okay in any other context, but since it's been so long since I’ve had one, and the gesture from my coworker was very nice, this is a good thing that just so happens to be food related. :)
Tumblr media
Speaking of….
Then I went to dinner with my friend and had a good time! The place was close enough to my house to walk, so I was able to walk there and finish up my walk after. (Unfortunately I miscalculated the distance and I should have just drove to the place….) We went to eat Korean fried chicken and then to what is quickly becoming my favorite boba place. It was nice to see her again, and then we discussed how we want to have a regularly scheduled activity together. Like, my book club and tv dates are with two of our mutual friends, in the same friend group. So it would be cool to also have a Thing together. We'll think about what activity we can come up with, but it’ll be a little difficult since our media consumption styles are so different. She likes to binge if she likes it, but not pick things up again if she doesn’t. So I'm interested to see what we can come up with.

Hi, Journal.
It’s August 1, 2022.
I’m here with another entry, so I can tell you one good thing that happened to me today. So here is my daily log, in an effort to see the good in my life and put out some good vibes along the way.
I launched the attached WordPress site!
Ah, it's not actually that ceremonial. I was just playing around with it just now, and it's pretty bare bones. Literally, there's nothing in it except some cool fonts.
But I saw that you could link your posts from Anchor, host of the audio version of this Journal, to WordPress! So that was cool. I thought that it was a nice even start, to start off with Entry 400 (ever), Entry 35 (of 2022), posted on the first of the month (August), with a new site. It's seriously an unpolished launch since I saw a button and did it on a whim...But it's cool! It seems fun! The potential is there!! Even as a placeholder, and a place where I can play around with the platform and learn how to make pre-packaged websites my own, and develop/post unique content to that site specifically.... I don't know. It's pretty neat, even just to think about. Still, as I'm figuring that potential out, the best place to reach me is still here (via inbox) or Anchor (via voice message).
Is there anything new you'd like to see over there? 🤔
Talk to you next time.
