i forgot for so long that sometimes you just have to trust your dog. i was so worried for so long about having Turtle off leash, but i took that leap of faith and he does just fine. he sticks close by and checks in often, recalls when called. i was so stressed for nothing lol

i'll never say this publicly but honestly i think tigerstar had some valid ideas about having one big clan. obviously he was super wrong with all the violence and force, but one big clan could solve a lot of issues. No more border patrol fighting, more food for everyone during leaf-bare season, no drama involving cross-clan mates, etc etc. a lot of deaths could be avoided if we all took care of one another instead of fighting all the time

Honestly I don't know how I feel about this... each Clan is beautifully unique and has their own traditions, which would fade away if Clans were desolved altogether. But OP makes a valid point about less violence and food scarcity. I hate the idea of sending my kits off to become Warriors, only for them to die during a stupid argument about Sunningrocks. A pile of rocks is NEVER worth a cat's life, whether they are in your Clan or not. And we have lost lives like that before.

I agree! Traditions are important, but every medicine cat knows that working together saves lives. Sharing herbs can stop the spread of greencough, and sharing prey stops kits from crying from hunger. We really need a better system, because I can't cry myself to sleep another night, blaming myself for not having enough cobwebs to stop a kit from bleeding out in front of me.

Stolen from a group that stole it from another group, but this is literally the problem with getting a lot of breeds, especially toy breeds with small litters that are primarily show. It's just near impossible to break into the breed. A lot of show-centric breeders won't sell to people without experience, or if they do, they have incredibly high-handed stipulations on their dogs. But stuff like this? This is why people prefer doodles. The breeders tend to flock to sell them to families because they're genuinely good family dogs. A lot of doodle breeders have nice, modern websites that are well updated, with many good pictures, *with the price listed*, etc. They're easy to find (good!). They're easy to talk to (good!). I've had breeders that made me feel stupid for asking very basic questions about their dogs that *should have been on their fucking website* like a health test or a title. And god FORBID if you ask about one of these untestable diseases in some breeds. Cancer in Goldens? Epilepsy in BCs? The breeders *flip* like you've accused them of crimes just by asking about how their lines were. And I've had a breeder I'd been talking to for months suddenly ghost me because I asked about price. She'd been happy to sell me a dog before then, but suddenly asking about price? NOPE. Doodles are easy to get and that's not a bad thing. They're advertised on places the average folks look to get a dog: CL, FB, google, PuppyFind, etc. Are they priced a bit on the upper end? Yep. And yet, people are paying it, because the breeders don't make them feel like idiots, have dogs available, and don't make people jump multiple hoops and do the special handshake.

#this is hella true though for hunting dogs #ive been regularly showing up at my local hog dog/terrier club with kya for a while to get her started on small game and game retrieval #and theyre so fucking welcoming #the first time i ever went out i had emailed the owner to ask if they had any gtg events or similar coming up #he called me a few hours later and said no but invited and encouraged me to come out that weekend for the hog bay #he literally gave me a list of names of people to meet and talk to if i’m interested in small terrier things #he didnt bat an eye when i said my dog was just a randombred terrier mutt #the jagd guys at the club are so nice though theyre always giving me tips and complimenting kya #even though i know she doesn’t hold a candle to their dogs

this is an emerald roach, they’re not super common in the pet trade but they’re so fucking cute!! the mothers let their nymphs crawl up under them and in between their legs to protect them and apparently females will even let babies that are not theirs do it. i’ve never seen a roach that exhibits mothering instinct!!

this is a bit of a vent but i was raised on horses with the rest of my family, right? but i was a really anxious kid who was scared of everything. now i’m older, and i’m definitely still cautious around horses (probably because i was kicked snd nearly died lol) but i still get treated like that scared kid by everyone.

i know what i’m doing. i may not do it the same way you do but i’m not stupid. and yeah, i still won’t ride a horse unless i get to know them on the ground first. doesn’t matter if the horse is the most calm horse around, i will not get on until i have spent time on the ground with that horse.

and that’s what they don’t get, i think. i ride a skittish 4 year old that doesn’t have any manners or boundaries yet. i’m not afraid of him or riding him. i spent a lot of time in the pasture getting to know him and his body language before i ever got on though. that’s my deal. i want to know a horse before i go hopping on their back. that’s how i feel confident with a horse.

#so yeah maybe im not the one who goes and hops on whatever colt backs out of the trailer but guess what #i havent been thrown in years despite riding a lot of very green young horses that are afraid of everything
