Various photos of my 24 person Pokemon Team Magma and Team Aqua group from the NorCal Gathering this last Saturday. I wanted to celebrate the remakes with a bang and even though we were missing a few members due to last minute family issues and sickness(our poor Aqua Admin Shelly worked herself sick right before the gathering and sadly couldn’t attend)I think we left a pretty good impression! lol

And now that we know what the Scorfanos look like

I present, The Babies But Grown

I’d say their older forms here are about 20-21 years old. Still young adults, but not old enough before their old mans’ traits really start kicking in. Obviously, though, there’s still hints of their parents. One thing i’ve seen with older designs of these two is that Alberto will be super buff and Luca will still be a bean pole, or both of them will be skinny boys. And tbh looking at the designs of the kids vs the designs of the adults in the movie, it’s definitely hard to bridge that gap.

That said, I think I caught a nice balance :)

Luca has just enough added thickness to hint at him becoming a chonky lad like his pa, and alberto still keeps his strong traits without losing any of that soft round lankiness that I think makes him so cute.

I also noticed that Lorenzo (Luca’s dad) is the one with those graceful round tail fins. I definitely thought that came from Daniella! Oh, speaking of her, I used her as a reference point for older Luca’s longer hair.

I’m very proud of my boys, and this was a super cool character design project!

I can finally post these now

I present, The Scorfanos!

So in addition to wanting to design Alberto’s parents, I also wanted to age up him and Luca. Which went right back to needing to know what his parents look like so I can figure out what features carry over. So here are my designs for Bruno and Teresa Scorfano.

 Alberto, in the artbook, is mentioned to have taken direct influence from open water fish (as opposed to Luca, who is a reef fish). He’s meant to be strong and a great swimmer, so i wanted to capture that sort of strength in Bruno in particular. But I also really love that Alberto has a good amount of pink and purple to his blue (he’s literally rainbow fish LOL), so I wanted to capture some of that influence in his mom. Even if she’s not the exact color an open water fish would be, I still think Teresa is beautiful and am super proud of both her and Bruno’s sea monster designs in particular.

This is my love letter to a film that is a love letter to friendship.

Man, ya'll, Luca is so good.

It oozes those amazing summer nostalgia vibes that I can only DREAM of capturing at this point in my own comic, and I admire it so much for how wholesome and honest and open and vulnerable it is. I just. Go watch the movie if you haven't seen it.
