Sometimes forgiveness is just a matter of letting go of the spirit of vengeance, letting go of the need for the last word, letting go that want to be heard or understood, letting go of the desire to prove yourself to be right. We get addicted to the bitterness we store in our heart, in hopes of spitting it in their face someday. Sometimes it’s realizing that they were the broken ones all along. (Romans 12:19, Luke 6:37-38)

“Through you we push back our enemies; through your name we trample our foes. I put no trust in my bow, my sword does not bring me victory; but you give us victory over our enemies, you put our adversaries to shame. In God we make our boast all day long, and we will praise your name forever.” -Psalms 44:5-8

“My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me all day long, “Where is your God?” These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go to the house of God under the protection of the Mighty One with shouts of joy and praise among the festive throng.” -Psalm 42:3-4

“Blessed are those who have regard for the weak; the Lord delivers them in times of trouble. The Lord protects and preserves them— they are counted among the blessed in the land— he does not give them over to the desire of their foes. The Lord sustains them on their sickbed and restores them from their bed of illness. -Psalm 41:1-3

Church communities are like gardens. You throw a handful of seeds where you want it, and it just emerges. Actually, that’s NOT how you grow a garden, but it does seem to be how we are cultivating churches. Plus, the vegetables we need most, are often the ones we like leaest. My point being, maybe we need to be more deliberate about how we address church community.
