REFLECTIONS by Shree Gurudev
REFLECTIONS by Shree Gurudev
( 5th June 1912 )
A summary method ought to be devised in order that no useless time might be spent with talkative persons. This can not be done unless one feels an absolute importance of time. It is only when we come to think our time to be precious, that we resent the slightest encroachment on it, & try to dismiss everything summarily when, on the other hand, we do not find our time to be…

Many of my friends from Pune and Mumbai always prefer to plan their weekend trip in Konkan. The beautiful beaches, lush green hills, curvy roads, smiley people and a variety of fishes in lunch and dinner… What else you need to spend a perfect weekend gateway?  I was always fascinated with this equation, but kept it postponed every time as it is my native place. But this time I determined to plan a trip in Konkan. Anyhow and finally, the day had arrived. I planned a weekend trip of 2 days with bucket list points to see, and places where I can eat fresh fish. Starting from Shrivardhan which is followed by Diveaagar and then Harihareshwar.
Tumblr media
How to go?
Easiest and best way to reach Shrivardhan is by road. Shrivardhan is 189 km from Mumbai and it is 157 km Via Tahmini ghat and 212 km via Khopoli-pen road from Pune.
I had started my journey from Pune. Both the roads were equally horrible with potholes and road reconstruction was in progress. Maharashtra state transport local buses are also available from Mumbai and Pune, once you reach in Shrivardhan Town, you can explore nearby destinations by Auto rickshaw. You need to be a genius at bargaining skill with auto drivers.
SHRIVARDHAN
It was noon, till the time we reach Shrivardhan. We checked in to hotel and went in search of a Tasty fish thali. Later we visited Peshwa smarak, Somja devi temple, LakshmiNarayan temple and Shrivardhan beach.
Shrivardhan is a hometown and birthplace of Peshwa Balaji Vishwanath. Today the peshwa smarak temple is situated centrally in the town. The landmark is in the state of neglect and there is only statue of Peshwa and nothing else.
Shrivardhan beach is what every sea lover looking for. Calm beach with an empty and long stretch of a black sand. There are no water sports, and yet very few tourists visit here. A long walkway adjacent to beach sand has made by the government and also there are sitting arrangements at intervals. The beach and walkway both are very clean. Walkway also has many viewpoints. One can spend a relaxing evening on this beach.
Diveagar
Day 2 early morning, we left for Diveagar. Enroute to Diveagar there is aaravi beach, also known as kondivalli beach. You just cannot miss this beach. The drive along the sea is so satisfying.
Diveagar is most popular for the Ganpati idol of pure gold. You can also visit Rupanarayan temple.
Tumblr media
Supari (Betel Nut) orchards and coconut groves that part to make way for the isolated beach. But now a days this is not at all an isolated beach. I had visited this beach in the morning around 8, even though it was busy by throng.
Tumblr media
There are stalls at the entry of beach where they serve omelette bread, Maggi, Konkan special Ukadicha Modak, Tea and other snacks items. This beach provides water sports activities such as Parasailing, Banana ride, boat ride etc. You can also enjoy a horse cart riding on the beach.

HARIHARESHWAR
Harihareshwar is popularly known for its temple. Harihareshwar temple is always crowded by tourists. This sacred place has huge mythological history and very much of the importance. The parikrama route starts behind the temple. One need to first reach Ganesh Gully, from where you can step down and complete the parikrama by walking around rocky coastal hilly area. It can be very dangerous during high tide. Later you can spend time at harihareshwar beach.
Where to Eat?
Around all the three places, Shrivardhan, Harihareshwar and Diveagar, there are a number of small hotels and Khanawal available but at some places specially for home cooked food, you need to tell them in advance.
Shrivardhan – In the town there are a number of restaurants, who serves fish thali. We had visited KOKAN KINARA for lunch and hotel PRASAD for DInner. Both are recommended to visit in town. Must Try: Prawns Masala from Kokan Kinara and Fish Thali at hotel Prasad.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Harihareshwar – Shiv Sagar caterers are famous for their prawn masala and crab curry but here also you need to tell them in advance. Minimum 2 hours before. Also, you can check for Mohan Kutumbe Restaurant.
Where to Stay?
Harihareshwar, Diveagar are now popular tourist destinations. So, there are many home stays, budget hotels and very few options for luxury hotels available.
I had stayed at Hotel Sea Wind Resort. The hotel was superior and one of the best stay options into the meadow countryside. The hotel was well equipped with the pool, restaurant, spacious rooms and courteous staff. Besides the months of monsoon, Rest year the hotel is bit expensive for stay. They charge around 4,500 to 5,000/- per night on weekends.

This short trip gifted me immense pleasure and peace of mind in these two days. The relax evening walk at the beach side, the energetic morning with sea shores and adventurous sea parikrama, having mythological importance were unforgettable memories of my trip.  One should definitely think about these places for a weekend trip or short family outing. My journey to Shrivardhan, Diveagar and Harihareshwar connected me with my town, my native place.

This time, our trio was fully set for our next expedition to a cotton city of India on the banks of sabarmati – yes, it’s Ahmedabad. We planned our trip in perfect season of July month, where it was neither too rainy nor too hot. A great weather, the way I like, mostly cloudy but slightly drizzling.
Tumblr media
Our journey started with BOM – AMD Air India flight. It was already scheduled at 01:30am, but did you know when it actually fly? 03:30 am. 2 hours of flight delay made us too much exhausted and added more frustration when we just kept awaited to pick our luggage for another one more hour. After the whole night excursion, we finally reach our hotel in morning – ” TREATOTEL HOTEL “. As per hotel policy, we reached early than check in time and they didn’t have any room available, so we slept at reception only. When housekeeping staff made our room ready, they dared to break our sound sleep and handed over room keys. Our tour driver came to hotel to greet us at 10:00 am, so we had our perfect power nap by that time.
Day 01: We started our first day in Ahmedabad with a local breakfast at Lakxmi Gathiya. It was a stall on the roadside, where we got Phaphda, Khandavi, Dhokala, Dalwada, Jalebi. The day plan was to visit Anand, which is popularly known for Amul factory.
Tumblr media
A 77 km distance from Ahmedabad took us to Anand. Dr Verghese Kurien started a white revolution in India from this place. Timing to visit the dairy is between afternoon 02 to 04 pm which doesn’t require any prior permission. We just have to show our ID proof to get an entry.  they started program with 10 min short film, explaining the inspiration behind revolution the revolution. Do you guys know the full form of Amul? It is – “Anand Milk Union Limited”. Further, during the visit, they explained the functioning of machines. Now their bigger plant is at Gandhinagar. They have Amul parlour in premises where you can get a large variety of Amul products.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The evening was free to visit Sabarmati riverfront park. I found Ahmedabad very calm and peaceful. It was bit humid, but I was enjoying it. You can have a long walk in this park. Bhakti wanted to try Segway in this park but I and Ashu were niche interested. She convinced us a lot and finally she decided to do it alone. But by this time, raining had been started and segway operator boy said, ” It is closed, we can not operate now. ” Ohh no….. Bhakti gave us a very sarcastic look and we decided wherever we find it next, we will buy ticket for her.

It was almost 7 in the evening, that means it was time to taste local delicacies again. We went to law garden road. The street had numerous food stalls on its both sides. Looking out these many options, you would definitely get confused about where to go? Everyone there call you to visit their own stall, so we randomly went to one of the stall. We had Gujrat’s famous Kacchi Dabeli and I also wanted to try for another famous dish pav bhaji, but we wanted to keep more  space in stomach for dinner. Please do not forget to try Ashrafi kulfi & ice cream.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gujrat is always famous for it’s Khakra and you must visit ‘Induben ni Khakra’, when you are in Ahmedabad. It is hardly 5 to 10min walking distance from Law garden road. It is a big shop having a number of variety khakras. You would get chholapuri, chat, pizza, schezwan, diet khakra, plain khakra and many more. You just name a khakra and you would find it here. Our first day ends with Khakra shopping and we came back to our hotel.
Our hotel experience was not good this time. Room was small and food was so basic in taste. The most important thing is that, the phone in our room was ringing for whole night. We didn’t feel safe and we made complaint at reception on next morning immediately, but they had their framed answers ready. ” It has reported first time. our hotel is safe for girls. We have many solo travellers. Blah… Blah… Blah… “
Day 02: After the horrifying night, we started our next day with Akshardham temple visit. No mobile phones, no bags, nothing was allowed inside… except your wallet. One needs at least 2 to 3 hours to visit Akshardham temple. It is located in Gandhinagar. I was visiting Akshardham for the first time; so when I entered into temple, it reminded me about the set of Bahubali movie. The architecture of the temple was so amazing. I wished, I could have a camera with me. It is a 3 storey temple of Yogiji Swami. Each element of Akshardham echoes with spirituality. You can explore temple area right from Mandir, Exhibition and Garden. Behind the temple, there is a canteen where you can have your meals. Later we proceeded to visit Sabarmati Ashram. On the way, we visited “Adlaj Vav”, which is a 3 storey well with indo – Islamic architecture and design. No entry ticket is required and it is open from morning 06:00 am to 06:00 pm.
Tumblr media
It is the most popular destination on the way from Gandhinagar to Ahmedabad.

youtube
Further we proceeded to Sabarmati Ashram.
Tumblr media
On the entrance, Ashram map welcomes you. There is a museum, where you would get information about various moments in Gandhiji’s life.
Tumblr media
Further they have library, photo gallery, Gandhiji’s prarthana bhoomi, his personal room where ashram has preserved his charkha, Hridaykunj, Vinoba-Meera Kutir. In the end, they have a museum shop where you can get related books, postcards, fridge magnets, handmade diaries and many other things. Visiting Sabarmati ashram was very inspirational.

Travelling in Ahmedabad is quite easy. It is well connected via BRT buses. Also auto rickshaw travel is also economical. Our last destination in this trip was Kankaria lake. This lake helps ecotourism of Ahmedabad. The lake has total 8 gates for entry and exit. surrounding the lake, they have well maintained path and place to sit everywhere. Many activities have been operated around the lake. you can well spend your evening here.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Bhakti finally got her segway here and of-course she did it. There is also a toy train for children, a zoo and lot of street food stalls. You can enter from any gate and take exit from other gate. It is best place to enjoy walk. There is also a water and light show in the evening. This was a last point before we headed to airport for back to Mumbai, but if you have one more day then do not forget to visit ‘Jama Masjid’.
It was a pleasant visit with lot of unforgettable memories. Even though Ahmedabad has emerged as one of the fastest growing city in India as economic and industrial hub, it has still continues its long history with several markets for best fabrics and clothing and of course delicious eateries. Therefore this city, “The Manchester of East” has to be on must visit on your travel list. The city attraction of mine will be continue and I will be meeting you in another city soon.
New Girl in The City – Ahmedabad This time, our trio was fully set for our next expedition to a cotton city of India on the banks of sabarmati - yes, it's Ahmedabad.

I was born in Mumbai, so the thing I always seen while grown up is beach. I love to spend hours and hours on beach – sitting quietly, sometimes writing, sometimes enjoying with friends or few times watching people’s activities. Hence experiencing this enjoyment again in a new way at new destination, where I will be a guest rather host, I reached in Pondicherry (Puducherry).
Tumblr media
Pondicherry has its own culture.  … some may be call it as Indo-French culture. Even I had main attraction about Pondicherry to see French colonies. When it comes about Pondicherry, in every picture or poster you will see these yellow colored French colonies.
Tumblr media
Another important thing about its culture is a café culture. Pondicherry has most of its café open for 24*7. You can sit in the café, enjoy yourself, have a beer, test delicacies. Pondicherry has good French cuisine restaurants, Indian cuisine restaurants, Continental and south Indian of course. So, I decided to write a whole another blog on Pondicherry’s café culture. We spent 3 days in Pondicherry.
Starting from seaside promenade, rock beach, Pondicherry beach, Bharathi Park, French war memorial, Mahatma Gandhi statue, Statue of Duplexie were on my hitlist for the first day. These places are at very short distance from each other. So, you can easily give them a visit at one time.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
A beautiful seaside promenade is a very clean and well-maintained area with many cafes at its one side. This is very happening place whenever you visit in a day, whether it is a sunny morning or nighttime.
One of the most important and worth visiting place at Pondicherry is Auroville. It is conceived as universal town and is a great epitome of community living. This is a place where people of different nationalities, cultures, religion come together, work, help in growth of Auroville with their mission and vision and truly leave in peace. You need at least 3 to 4 hours to visit Auroville. Once you entered in Auroville, they first introduced yourself with Auroville concept, how it had started and grew in 10 minutes of short film.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Another ideal and peaceful place without Pondicherry trip cannot be complete, is the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. Timing to visit Aurobindo Ashram is 05.00 am to 12.30pm and 2.00pm to 09.30pm daily. It is located at Rue dela Marine. It is one of the most well-known and wealthiest Ashram in India. Photography is not allowed inside. The Ashram’s influence can be felt in most of Pondicherry.
Tumblr media
Paradise is one of the most famous beach of Pondicherry which can be easily accessible by boat. Chunnambhar boat house operates daily boat service till paradise beach. You have to buy to and from tickets at boathouse only. Boating operates in backwaters of Pondicherry. Paradise is very clean but bit crowded. They have a section of Rain dance on beach. People can enjoy music and rain dance. Beach have small huts and may be one or two restaurants. Post sunset, beach entry is restricted.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Spending a whole day on beach from sunrise to sunset and later having local delicacies, music, happening cafes, made my days in Pondicherry so calm, peaceful and refreshing.
If you are with nature, all other things naturally get set for you.
Pondicherry – On my Way          I was born in Mumbai, so the thing I always seen while grown up is beach. I love to spend hours and hours on beach - sitting quietly, sometimes writing, sometimes enjoying with friends or few times watching people's activities.
