I Am All In Rewatch - Jess & Rory- Episode 2x5 (Part 2)
But the thing is is, even though she was getting into it with the you know, the inevitable sort of beginning to fall for Jess and Jess inevitably falling for her. You could see it in that final scene when it's like, uh, you know when he said he made notes on Alan Ginsbury's Howell and I've only read it forty times and then uh and then the um the Dickens reference um, and he knew it and she was pleased. I trust her. I trust her now not to screw up her life because this is this is a pattern with super intelligent uh people, right girls uh that you know, their lives get blown up because they don't have the character, the backing of the support from family, right when they're about to go to college and their senior year just blows up into partying and it blows up into boys and it's just like and then suddenly they don't really want to go to Harvard anymore, and it's like, you know, I'll go I'll go over here, and I don't care. They don't even bother going to college. I trusted her, not I didn't feel so I felt more encouraged about a potential romance between the two and the excitement of that and how that was going to play out. Then I was about him derailing her. I didn't feel any possibility of that happening, because if she can handle herself so beautifully, with such maturity and calm and cool up against Paris, then no guy is gonna be smart enough. You're not gonna find a guy that's smarter than than Paris and more diabolical. Nothing's going to derail So I I really trust her character. I trust Rory to stay on the straight and narrow, to stay studying. Nothing's gonna throw her off. In fact, she's already manipulating him. She's already testing him and saying, you know, are you literate? Do you read these things? -Scott

i like how dean represents rory’s humble small town stars hollow world and logan represents rory’s wealthy ivy league world and rory being torn between these two worlds is basically the theme of the show, so you’d think that the narrative would be very dean vs logan. yet both of them are intimidated not by each other but by this little guy who comes out of nowhere during both relationships, displays an undeniable connection with rory and dips. i love it.

The way everyone in Star’s Hollow was freaking out about Jess being a bad influence on Rory and getting her in trouble when he literally was the one to convince her to go back to Yale and Dean was the one to get her to cheat and Logan was the one she stole a yacht with 😐

It really is hilarious how the Gilmore Girls fanbase is so scandalized by Jess. The town overreacting to his childish pranks is very in character, and it's funny. But I see so many reddit posts from presumably fully adult fans writing about how dangerous and awful this traumatized 17 year old who is employee of the month at Walmart and drags his uncle out on a rowboat to track down a killer swan is. Like for god's sake imagine if Rory ever met someone actually dangerous, like maybe someone who introduces her to a world of partying and drugs and committing felonies for fun

Rory liked Dean but she didn’t love him. She liked going on dates with him. She liked that he’d spend time with her and watch movies with her and get along with her mother. But there was no fire, no matter how much she wanted there to be one. She couldn’t burn like she did for exploring the world and the written word. She couldn’t burn for him.
Rory loved Logan but she didn’t like him. She loved his freedom, his adventurous spirit, his lust for life. She loved how she could let herself go with him, put faith in something dangerous and not shatter. But she didn’t like how cruel he could be to others. She didn’t like how dismissive he was, of responsibilities, of consequences, of people’s hurt. She didn’t really like him.
Rory liked Jess and she loved him. She liked that he liked the same stuff as her, liked that he’d help out his uncle without bragging, and talk with her friends, and throw literary challenges at her because he genuinely wanted her opinion. She loved his honesty, his integrity, how he’d leave her speechless with his gaze and breathless with his kisses. How he looked at her, all of her, and never made her feel like she was lacking. She liked and she loved him. And it scared her shitless.

The class stuff in Gilmore Girls sometimes comes off as confused but I do like how Logan canonically got kicked out of a half dozen schools and parties his way through Yale and still ends up graduating and getting handed international jobs. Because he's a rich kid and no matter what he does there's no consequences. Everyone just thinks it's cool and understandable follies of youth.
Meanwhile Jess misses school because he's secretly working full-time and gets kicked out while the principal says "good riddance," loses his place to stay and becomes homeless. We see him sleeping in his fucking car in a Connecticut winter, it's genuinely a miracle he didn't die or fall off the face of the earth and wound up successful and stable.

I think the stupidest thing about the whole bracelet debacle in 2x15 is the fact that Jess doesn’t know. He has no idea that the bracelet Rory wore was a gift from Dean and that apparently being his girlfriend means she is contractually obligated to wear it at all times to prevent a meltdown of epic proportions. All he knew was it was her bracelet and it was left right beside him after their friendly lunch/quasi first date…and that she never brought up the fact that is was gone after meeting with him. Jess wasn’t some master plotter or anything in this situation, he didn’t expect to start a fight with Dean or to upset Rory at all. In fact, the moment he finds out about the bracelet, he makes sure the house is empty and puts it right back in Rory’s room. And then Lorelai in all her infinite biased wisdom assumed that he…stole it off her daughter’s wrist without Rory noticing? Snuck in at night and robbed her jewelry box? What did she think happened exactly? And then Jess, who has had maybe 30 minutes tops to process the bracelet and all it’s connotations, hits back with the hardest truth of all. The one that Rory and Lorelai seemed determined not to think too deeply about: if it’s the most precious thing she owns, why did it take Rory two weeks to even notice it being gone?
I love that he says that, partly because I can’t always keep track of time skips in the show but also because it meant that Rory didn’t take it off for two weeks, didn’t put it on in the morning to go to school, didn’t fidget with it while she was distracted, didn’t have it bend a paper or get mashed potatoes on it, didn’t have it roll under her sleeve….she cared so little about this “symbol of Dean” that she was perfectly happy until he blew up about it being gone.

You and Rory are a lot alike. It's not surprising you would have similar tastes in men.

They really paralleled Emma’s first love and heartbreak with her first adventure with Hook and used climbing a giant freaking beanstalk as a metaphor for the trust and faith that’s required to love another person and Emma wasn’t ready for all that or for the possibility of letting someone in so she kept herself closed off and left Hook behind and haters really told us all we were delulu for shipping CS
