odysseus absolutely does present a threat to penelope if he perceives her as at all unfaithful, and i feel the unfairness of this, and i think people tend to undersell how much tension at least potentially exists between odysseus and penelope. but i'm also like. his reaction, all speculation aside, his actual reaction in the odyssey to her flirting with the suitors is delight, because he immediately ascertains that she is running a con. sorry that they're so in-sync in spite of the forces that try to drive a wedge between them, including their own misgiving hearts. sorry that they invented homophrosyne ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Deaths in Sudan could reach 10,000 per day in the coming months if the mass displacement of people caused by a year-long civil war sparks famine. The dire projection, which represents a worst case scenario and would put the conflict on a par with the worst days of the Battle of the Somme, was being urgently debated by Western envoys and diplomats this week. Other actors, including the World Food Programme, say the estimates are exaggerated but accept that a major humanitarian catastrophe is unfolding.
It is already the world’s biggest single displacement crisis, with up to 11 million people, including four million children, forced from their homes and farms. Millions of refugees have fled into neighbouring Chad and South Sudan. And, across the region, some 25 million people are now unable to feed themselves properly, with at least five million on the cusp of famine, according to the United Nations.

there’s nothing wrong with finding gay sex sexy, even if you’re straight. sex is sex. if a woman is attracted to men, it stands to reason that she might get turned on watching two dudes mack each other’s faces off. vice versa. that’s neither weird nor news to anyone. what is weird and fucked up is consuming queer sexuality without respect for the very-real human beings who are having the queer sex
and yes, that shit is prevalent and aggravating as hell! i get it. but criticizing how people derive pleasure (“she’s evil because she thinks gay-man-sex is hot even though she’s a woman”) rather than how they abuse power (“she thinks gay-man-sex is hot, and consumes queer media in queer spaces, but she also maintains that lesbians are gross and weird and uses her platform to talk over them”) is a recipe for weird puritanical nonsense that solves zero problems and in fact creates several new ones

I need non autistic people to realise meltdowns are a real debilitating thing that has a serious effect on your mental and physical health NOWWWWW!!! The way its been trivialized and lessened pisses me the fuck off. It's not a tantrum and it doesn't come from "being too weak-willed" it's painful and it's embarrassing AND MOST OF ALL IT'S INVOLUNTARY!! Don't claim to be an ally to autistic or disabled people and then make fun of people who have meltdowns. Literally get the hell out of my sight

Anyone else notice that, at least on certain browsers, tumblr has started generating links to posts like this? (1):
Tumblr media
[x]
Instead of the older, more typical way like this (2):
Tumblr media
[x]
I get different versions of the link depending where I click on a post:
Tumblr media
(If you're on your phone browser, make sure to click and HOLD #2 and select 'copy link'--clicking through on mobile redirects me to the new style.)
I tend to edit urls to do quick tag searches and such and you can't do that with the first url, which is why I noticed, but I've since noticed some other issues.
For example, if I post the new style link in discord it will embed a picture rather than the post's video (forcing people to click through). The second, older url still properly embeds the video on discord.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And of course, the reason the new url wants to make you click through is tumblr is also using it to pressure people to sign up with tumblr.
Which becomes an issue when you're sharing a link with people who don't use tumblr, or, say, on discord, where anyone using the app's native browser is going to appear as not logged in.
Going to the first link when logged out and scrolling down quickly hits this wall:
Tumblr media
This blocks the whole blog, does not scroll, and cannot be opted out of. (Also adds this to the url:)
Tumblr media
On the other hand, clicking the orginal form of the URL and scrolling down only triggers the older, less intrusive "wanna try the tumblr app" prompt on mobile browser:
Tumblr media
And the "wanna sign up" prompt on PC browser:
Tumblr media
These appear only on a small part of the screen, still allow scrolling, and have an opt out option that banishes them making them INFINITELY MORE FUNCTIONAL AND LESS ANNOYING
tl;dr I think platforms increasingly gating their content behind log in prompts is extremely sketchy and a bad direction for the internet to go, and also if you're sharing tumblr links it's worth knowing which format will do u better
