Since you can't buy fanfiction as actual books I started a project of binding my favourites myself back in January. During my training to become a librarian I spent a few weeks in the library's bookbinder workshop and learned everything I needed for this project. The steps I didn't remember were helpfully provided by the internet.

So far I finished 5 books, with another 17 stories ready to be formatted and then printed.

If you're interested, the photos and details are under the cut. But: this is no manual on how to do it, just a post about a little bit of the progress and the finished products.

The only picture I took of the sewing process. That part was honestly the most fun.

Since I don't have any other way to do it I wrote the title and, if the space was enough, the author on the spine.

And here are all 5. The marble effect fabric was definitely worth the money. It looks even prettier irl 😍

Can't wait to continue with the others, but need to get a few more materials first.

honestly something i think people forget about in regards to Rayllum and one of the reasons they've always felt very genuine as friends to me is because like... they think the other person is amazing and incredible, yes, but they also think they're soo fucking annoying and stupid sometimes? and that never really goes away like

it's crucial to their Best Friend core. like. that's their fucking best friend, the most annoying and the most amazing and smart person alive, To Them. no one else can be mean or annoy the other person ever (except for Ezran). them's the rules

Downtime's Up - Chapter 17

They’d take a long-ish break here, he thought, Rayla was usually the one to convince of that, but seeing as she was currently horizontal… long-ish break was for sure.

Callum pulled his boots off and rolled up his pants to his knees.

“I’ll go take Bait for a froggy-paddle before we eat?” he said. “He loves it, but he needs supervision, you know… being…”

“…Delicious… mmmhmm, I remember,” Rayla muttered sleepily. “Go splish-splash… well away from me…”

“Stella? Do you want to come, or are you on team water-is-a-liquid-abomination-unto-elf with Rayla?”

Stella scampered up his coat sleeve and collar to perch on his head, chittering excitedly.

“No, she’s not,” Rayla grumbled. “You’ll see. Don’t pull his hair out, Stella. Him not being gifted with natural handholds doesn’t mean you get to mess with that kinda rare perfection.”

Callum turned away to head for the river, his cheeks on fire. He had wondered a few times if Rayla liked his new haircut and that wasn’t really the kind of thing you could ask someone when you weren’t a thing-

hey numpty, i just wanted to let you know that not a day goes by when I don't think about your characterization of Rayla and Callum, especially in your cottage au. :) it has transformed how I think about caring for people and makes me a better person every day. anyway since I saw The Bot was after you again I thought I'd send a lil thank you. :)

It really means a lot to hear that, that my writing had a personal impact like that. Cottage cuddles still has a special place in my heart, it started out as a very silly event fic to intentionally subvert romantic tropes, but I ended up pretty proud of the story I told with it, which is soooo rare, for me. I hope to return to it, the Home Free sequel has been half-written for literally 3 years, it's time XD

Thank you for brightening my day, this was so lovely, I just need a little while to process when people say nice things to me sometimes, so sorry I was so late, answering.

Reblogging this old PSA post, because the kudot bot was back in town yesterday, for me and several others. It’s been many months of nothing, i figured Ao3 had found a way to limit it.

I only got fake kudos on my newly updated fic, but others have experienced it on fics that haven’t been updated in ages.

So, I got 5000 kudos in 12 hours, evenly distributed across all my fics, in a small fandom deep in hiatus. Obviously, these are fake, there just aren’t that many readers, and some of these stories are niche oneshots posted a year ago.

I’m sure some of you have noticed or experienced it yourselves, but I haven’t seen any posts about it on here, and this kudos bot has hit our little fandom HARD over the last few days. Every other newer fic is affected, although not all to the degree mine have been, some experience bursts of 40-100 kudos on a single fic. This is just a psa, if this happens to you, or you’re confused with the numbers you see with others. The writers themselves are not doing this, it’s a third party.

I do NOT want these kudos, they’re meaningless and not reflective of real reader interaction, and it feels really shitty to have these forced on you. This is not harmless, certainly not to me, but not on a larger scale either. 1) It makes it impossible for me to gauge my real stats, it’s hit every single one of my fics. 2) it’s demotivating because it’s burying the real guest kudos, I don’t know if any of them were real so I can’t be happy about them. 3) it’s unfairly promoting my fics relative to others, which I feel horrible about. Kudos is the most common metric for readers to sort by, and I don’t want to benefit at the expense of others. 4) It’s undermining the system at large, making kudos a useless metric by which to judge stories. 5) I worry people will suspect me of doing this myself and that I look dishonest, and it’ll be at best a reader-deterrent and at worst get me reported.

Ao3 is not able to do anything at present, was the response I and many others got. I understand it’s run by volunteers and resources are limited, and this post is not meant as a complaint. But I wanted to show the scope of this, because in a small fandom, this is a massive impact, fics don’t GET that many kudos, and it’s already at a point where kudos are meaningless, just a few days into this. And the bot is still at it.

Have other fandoms been hit this hard? Is it just less visible in larger fandoms? I’ve talked about it in discord servers and reddit and not gotten much response from outside the tdp fandom, but enough to know that it’s not EXCLUSIVE to tdp.

Downtime's Up - Chapter 16

He extended his hand to her, and she took it, following his gentle tug out of bed, across the floor to the balcony, into the cool night air.

“Manis!” he said, his arms spreading out, and… oh, it’d been so long… she’d forgotten how cute that satisfied, confident, happy look on his face was, when he cast that spell, when he felt so embraced and empowered by the world around him. “Pluma!” Despite the distinct lack of world-empowerment for her right now, what with the Moon a barely perceptible sliver, and the unmistakable omen of what to come, low in her gut- “Volantus!” …she thought she could feel it anyway, feel it through him.

“What-“ she started, but he cut her off.

“Just… trust me, okay?” he laughed. “And hold on!”

She wanted nothing more.

It had been so long.

She’d forgotten too, how close she had to get, to hold on properly, had forgotten the way the wind rose with them as they pushed off the ground, forgotten the way it felt when gravity shifted, being pulled away from everything solid in the world but him.

Forgotten how light she felt, how easy it was to laugh, alone up here, with just him and the open skies.

His cheeks were flushed, his smile wide and beautiful, the air warm and perfect, even the twisty New-moon-ache had miraculously stilled and… oh, this wasn’t real, was it?

She’d been asleep, and… she still was.

She knew this dream; even if the dreams featuring him had usually not been pleasant… occasionally she had gotten to wake up with him next to her, smiling at her, leaning over to kiss her good morning, and gotten to live in that world until she woke up for real.

He set them both down on a turret tower high above ground, the landing impossibly perfect and gentle, too, unlike her more… bumpy… memories of previous flights.

A dream.

Reality didn’t do soft landings.

A bow was… a thing. It couldn’t kill and couldn’t hurt.

It was a weapon, a tool, sure, but… it was also not just that, for Rayla.

It was… remembrance.

Legacy.

Love.

Whatever it was to him… it didn’t matter. It wasn’t his, it was hers.

Rayla wrapped her arms around herself, around the bow, tight and desperate.

She had made it through her full upside-down morning routine today, she definitely didn’t need his help brushing her hair.

“Rayla… what is this? Really?” It wasn’t like he minded doing it. Or rather… ‘not minding’ was a grave understatement. But her ulterior motives were the point.

“An excuse?” She sighed, reaching back to take the brush back. “Sorry, Callum. I’m… not really doing so well at doing better, huh?”

“You asked though. You asked for something you wanted. You asked for comfort. Didn’t you?”

“…Yes. I… it was hard, today. Finding Ru… his bow.”

It was the truth, but… not the full truth. She had been upset before this, since Umber Tor.

She’d get there though. She’d tell him when she was ready.

“So just… ask me without the roundabouts?” he said. “It’s not like you’d be putting me out, you’re hardly a chore to hug-“ He flushed. She was the very opposite of a chore to hug.

“O…kay,” she said, slowly, like she was tasting words of an unfamiliar flavor. “If you really wouldn’t mind then… yeah… I’d like tha-“
